  1. Warren-3 Buna-1
  2. That may be so.WOS always has some big name players that get national recognition.I watched 3 former WOS players on the field a couple of weeks ago when UT played Tech.I don't know any of this years WOS players but I haven't seen the publicity that usually goes with these kinds of recruits. That being said you can't compare the high school programs of Hardin and WOS.I hope the kid from Hardin gets completely well and goes on to play football on Saturday, I would just be really surprised if it's in Norman, that's one of the biggest programs on the collegiate level.
  3. I had 3 boys that did every extracirricular activity there was to do while in high school. They knew no matter what the progress report said if their grades slipped they wouldn't play ball or go to the ag contest or anything else. You have to challenge these kids in the classroom just like you do on the field,on the court or on the track. The really good coaches monitor the progress reports and deal with the slackers accordingly.
  4. The playoffs will be a completely different subject.Any time you have a single match playoff format anything can happen.I think(but wouldn't swear to it)that Warren saw Centerville last year and I know they are ranked pretty high so there won't be any cake walks in the playoffs. You are right on about the unforced errors on the serve. You can't give away points in the playoffs and advance.I've been very impressed with the left handed hitter this year. She seems to be getting on top of her shots and can really kill it.The serves seem to be called from the bench and that can be a big plus when you get the placement down.
  5. Oklahoma ??? ??? Come on folks let's keep it real. There aren't many players in all of SeTexas that could play for OU maybe none this year and that includes the 5-a schools.
  6. Makes you wonder what EC's head coach is thinking....what's it going to take to make some MUCH needed changes in the lineup??? There is nothing wrong with EC's lineup. I am surprised they are only 4-3 but even 4-3 is an improvement from last year. Look, they have played & lost to Warren (who is undefeated) and Hardin (who has lost only to Warren). The only surprise was that Buna beat them but Buna is not a slouch, especially on front row. They (Buna) can block and hit but only in certain rotations. I have a feeling that EC will beat Buna the 2nd time around. Warren is beatable as well. Anyone is beatable but if Warren stays healthy they are gonna be tough on anyone in this district. They have enough hitters they can keep at least two on the net at all times and that's tough on the 2-a level.
  7. The best quote I ever heard on this was from a guy who used to work for me.He told his daughter "No pass, No play" and then took it another step "All A's or No play".She went on to be a standout athlete and the valedictorian. There is no excuse for a kid not to be able to pass a high school course.atahey just have to hit the books a little harder when there is a question of eligibility.

  9. Use the fall ball for what it is.A way to get kids in the gym, which makes them better, nothing more, nothing less. Can't wait for the season to start.
  10. I've stood it as long as I can so I'll give a purely basketball opinion.I'm not from HJ but watch a TON of basketball every year.First thing you can do is throw summer games out the window. They keep the kids in the gym and that's about it.Last year in HJ and Kountzes first scrimmage neither club was impressive, a month later both clubs looked like the power they always are.Ricossa is developing into a pretty decent post player,Gustafson(I think that's his name) got invaluable experience last year and Turner while being the best defender in the area will also be able to collapse defenses to allow Sutherland to spot up for the 3.The Hawks will also beat lots of folks with presuure defense and Todd will teach them the game which is why they win so many close ball games. So here is a breakdown,4 good returning players, pressure defense, sound fundamentala and good coaching.Thats why their ranked. FYI:Cleveland deserves a look also but I haven't seen them as much so I'm not qualified to give that one yet and Travis will have the SilsbeeTigers ready for another regional run.Hope this gets us back on the basketball topics.
  11. If this kid is healthy he plays plain and simple.I don't know of any coach in se texas who would set their best ball player in a district game. That being said you would think a D1 player would make a significant difference in a 2-a ballgame.Gotta disagree about a Kirbyville match up with Anahuac. It would be close but Kirbyvilles schedule will have them ready while Anahuac won't be tested the rest of the regular season.
  12. What time does Jerry Jeff start playing.I hate to crash the party but Warren has a bye this week I think.
  13. I didn't say Evadale was a bad team.I said it was easy to see why Spurger and Sabine Pass were the best 2 in the district. All I've heard about Evadale is a fuss about someone who moved and someone who quit.FYI ,if they both came back the Rebels are still no better than the 3rd place club in this district which is where they will be without them. One more observation,I didn't see anyone on last years Evadale club that could start for EC.So hopefully everyone is where they want to be so we can get the season started.I agree CATMAN,25-a could easily represent region 4 at the drum this year.
  14. You young ladies get better every time out.Congrats on the win and good luck in the second half.I think this group has a legitimate shot at going deep in the playoffs.

  16. I don't think this is what truth had in mind when he started this thread. It's easy to see why Spurger and Sabine Pass are the 2 best teams in this district.
  17. Anahuac is the best club in the district followed by Hardin and then EC. Buna is a close 4th and then the seperation is pretty noticeable.Kountze would probably be the 5th pick follwed by the DVille club and Warren about a toss up with the pirates.Unfortunately the clubs are behind our neighbors to the north.Overall the talent seems to be down a little from last year. All the clubs seem to play hard and that's a tribute to the coaches and the young men.Wish them all the best the rest of the way.
  18. The Warren girls look better each week. The hitters were putting on a show tonite.Congrats girls.
  19. I forgot the answer to this question but over the weekend I had 102,000 plus remind me that OU SUCKS : : :
  20. Man this thread took a turn for the worse.

  22. The kids high school coaches have a huge impact but let's face it there isn't a ton of D-1 talent at the local level. That being said there are a lot of kids that can play at the smaller schools but there is little scholarship money available at the JUCO level and none at the D3 level. When some kids see they are going to have to pay for there own education the go to the school of their choice and forego any future basketball dreams.Once you get past the top teir it's alot about who you know because the players are pretty equal.
  23. The biggest concerns I have is the knicks the dual players take and absolutely destroys early season chemistry. That's why you see so many small school teams that don't play football excel early and hen fall off mid season.Everyone else catches up to them.
  24. The 5 out is definitely a shooters set.The spacing is the key and you can flash anyonyone to the post to start the sets. The key is the same as any other offensive set,you have to have a guard who can handle the ball well enough to put pressure on the "D"
  25. I love to watch the scramble when it's ran right. If you have the speed on the off side you and can make your first trap close to the baseline it can be very effective. You will give up some easy baskets as you do with any press but the good definitely outweighs the bad.
