  1. I would post the bracket if I knew how. Splendora is matched against Buna in the first round as well, but they are in the bottom bracket.  Kelly and Cleveland are in the top bracket.  The winners of those two games will most likely play in the championship with the losers meeting in the consolation game.  At least that's how I see it playing out.
  2. Just saw the tournament bracket (revision #5) and they have matched Kelly and Cleveland in the first round of this 16 team tournament.  Earlier versions had Kelly playing Burkeville.  I know Cleveland has a good team but have not seen them play.  Wanted to know what people think about this match up.  In my opinion, these are the two best teams in the field.  It's ashame they have us playing each other in the first round.  I'm not trying to slight any of the other teams in the tournament as there are some other strong teams such as Splendora, Buna, Jasper, Hull Daisetta and Hardin.  The only teams I've seen in person are Buna and Jasper, but I have paid attention to the other scores.  Good luck to all and should be a good tournament.
  3. Oh well forget everything I said.  That's got to be it.  Always look for the money trail.
  4. It really hasn't been an issue with the gym being used for other things.  And yes the boys would like to play some home games, but before this year no students came to the games anyway.  Vice Principal Reed has done a great job of building school spirit in the student body.  We had a large student section at the LCM game and we had at least 100 to 150 students at the PNG game (at PNG).  They stand the entire game, do chants, etc.  It's fun for the players.  He is helping to organize buses to bring students to the St. Pius and St. Thomas games in Houston.  Those schools usually have huge students sections at their home games, so it should be interesting. As far as parents/clubs stepping up, that may be true with football but it has been a problem in basketball the last couple of years.  We have played several home games with no concession stands because we couldn't get people to work.  People would do it, but there has't been an organized effort to make it happen.
  5. Kelly played LCM at home the second game of the season.  Other than that we only have 4 more home games.  We will probably play 32 games this year and have only 5 home games.  I don't know but maybe coach doesn't like to hassle with getting refs, concession stand workers, time clock operators, book keepers, and ticket takers.  It's easier to just show up wherever and play.  I'm glad gas prices have gone down some cause all these trips to Lake Charles, Houston, Huntington, etc. get expensive.
  6. Kelly won 43 to 39.  The goal at the buzzer counted.  Kelly was led in scoring by Thomas Falgout (14), Cam Franks and Andrew Pace with 8 each, and Shad Wise (7).  Kelly was down the entire first half (21-16 at halftime), but took the lead early in the 3rd quarter.  The lead was never more than 6 points.  PNG did a nice job of making it a half court game, as Kelly could never get the transition game going.  Kelly does not play again until after Christmas in the Woodville tournament.
  7. i haven't seen PNG, and I think Kelly should win, but I noticed that PNG played Westbrook within 3 points in the Nederland tournament.  Kelly cannot beat a 4a school, I don't care who they are, if Kelly is not ready to play.  I suspect this game will be within 10 points.
  8. On top of that, St. Pius had wins over #17 Dallas Bishop Lynch and #21 Cedar Hill Trinity Christian at the Houston Christian tournament and then Kelly defeated St. Pius, who was ranked #24 the week before.  So Pius falls out of the ranking, Kelly doesn't get ranked, but Lynch and CHTC are both ranked.  I was suprised by that as well.
  9. I appreciate this forum so the boys can get a little recognition for the way they have played this year and the hard work they put in during practice.  Being a small school, its hard for the boys to get that recognition any other way.  Other that Episcopal, we have had an opportunity to win every game.  We are undersized in every game we play, with guards having to cover and rebound against guys 4 to 6 inches taller than them.  To make up for that, our guys play extremely hard and deserve a little recognition.
  10. Here are the scores for Kelly's games in the tournament: Bellaire Episcopal 64  Kelly 29  -  Kelly was only down 31-19 at half but their size was just to much for Kelly.  Episcopal won the tournament championship Saturday against St Johns 69-59.  The Winslow kid from St. Johns is incredible and is only a junior.  Coaches from Baylor, UCLA, Texas and I'm sure other were there to watch the game and he put on a show.  Episcopal had the better overall team. Conroe SATCH 55  Kelly 52  - Kelly had a 52-46 led with 2 minutes left and couldn't hold on.  Kelly played a really well the entire game against a good team with a guard being recruited by several DI schools.  Just didn't execute in the final minutes.  Must improve in this area and finish these games.   Pope John Paul XXIII 49  Kelly 64 - Kelly was ahead from start to finish in this one. Corpus Christi John Paul II 55  Kelly 62 - Kelly built up an 18 point led in the 3rd qtr but let them cut into the led at the end of the game.  Score ended up a little closer than the game really was although JPII had some talent.  Kelly just played really well in the first 3 quarters. St. Pius 56  Kelly 61 - Great game from start to finish.  Very intense game between district foes.  The boys really stepped up to the challenge.  Maybe we finally learned how to finish a game.  Should give the team some confidence going into district in January.  We play at Pius in our district opener on January 11.  For comparison, Nederland beat Pius 54-48 earlier in the year. Long week of basketball for the boys and parents.  We played in Houston Tuesday night, lost in overtime, and didn't get home until after midnight because of the weather.  Then played 5 games in three days in Houston.  Much needed day off Sunday before @ PNG Tuesday night. Finally, congratulations to Thomas Falgout and Cam Franks for all tournament selection.  I hate to single players out because they all had their moments and in particular Shad Wise has turned into the much needed point guard running the show, breaking the press, and distributing the ball.  Others are learning their roles on the team and getting confident in those roles.
  11. Kelly lost to #10 Houston Christian 68-64 in overtime.  Kelly was down 49 to 42 going into the 4 qtr. but came back and took a 4 point lead midway through final period.  Kelly missed 5 free throws down the stretch including a front end of a 1 and 1.  Game tied at 61 at the end of regulation.  In overtime, game tied at 64 with 1 minute left, HC has the ball.  Their best player has 4 fouls, he drives to the basket , blocking on Kelly (tough call).  He makes both free throws and they sink two more free throws with 6 seconds left.  Game over.  Nigal Barber (20 points) and Cam Frank (17) led Kelly in scoring. Kelly plays Dec 6 - 8 in 16 teams Houston Christian tournament.  Kelly plays Bellaire Episcopal Thurs and Conroe SATCH and John Paul XXIII Friday.  Bellaire Episcopal is the #1 ranked large private school in Texas.  #2 St. Johns is also in this tournament.
  12. Kelly 44  Westwood 40  Final Kelly 56  West HS 27  Final Kelly will play Crocket in the championship at 3:30.  Both teams are 3-0 in the tournament.
  13. Rumor in Lake Charles was they had another big kid that didn't make the trip.  Maybe he makes the trip to Beaumont for the YMBL.  Either way Nederland needs to be ready.
  14. Kelly played New Orleans Walker in the St. Louis tournament the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and we scrimmaged Nederland before the season started.  Nederland should win that game.  Walker's guards are quick but can't shoot from the outside and their tall skinny kid (6' 6") gets tired real quick.  Their other big kid (6' 4") is a decent player but Nederlands big kid is better.
  15. WOS - 64  Kelly - 55.  WOS was ahead 58 to 55 with 1 minute left.  Kelly had the ball and missed the shot.  Kelly fouled WOS down the stretch and they scored all the rest of their points on free throws.  #2 for WOS had 28 points.  Kelly was led by Nigel Barber 15, Cam Franks 13, Thomas Falgout 12 and Shad Wise 10.  Kelly plays Huntington Thursday at 3 in the Huntington tournament.
  16. Kelly 50 Vidor 36, Leading scorers for Kelly: Cam Franks 17, Shad Wise 12, Nigel Barber 11.  Kelly led by 6 at half 28-22, opened up the lead to as much as 17 in the 3rd qtr, and then went to a spread offense in the 4th and ran clock.  Next game for Kelly is Tuesday at WOS.
  17. Kelly lost to New Orleans Walker 56-46.  Score was 48-46 with 1:20 left.  Kelly had the ball.  No call on a drive to the basket.  Walker gets the rebound and scores on a fast break.  Kelly panics down the stretch, forces some bad shots, gets called for an intentional foul and loses by 10.  Cam Frank led Kelly with 22 points.  Kelly plays at Vidor Saturday.  N.O. Walker is here for the YMBL tournament in a couple of weeks.
  18. Kelly lost to Lake Charles Washington-Marion 67-58.  Leading scorers for Kelly were Shad Wise(17), Andrew Pace(15) and Cam Franks(14).  Kelly was down about 20 at the half but cut the lead to 5 and had the ball with 3 minutes left in the game.  W-M made their free throws to hang on at the end of the game.  W-M dominated the glass the entire game.  Kelly plays tomorrow for 3rd place at 5:30 against New Orleans Walker.
  19. Kelly - 68  St. Louis Catholic - 67  Leading scorers for Kelly: Cam Franks 26; Thomas Falgout 13; Shad Wise 10;  Kelly had a 51 - 40 lead at the end off the 3rd qtr. St. Louis cut the lead to 2 with 18 seconds left with the ball in bounds but Andrew Pace got a steal off the press resulting in a layup by Cam Franks with 8 seconds left.  St. Louis hit a three at the buzzer for the final score.  Kelly was 30 for 39 from the free throw line for the game.  Semifinals tomorrow at 5:30 against Washington Marion.
  20. Final score Kelly 56 LCM 39.  Kelly quickness was to much for LCM.  For much of the game Kelly played with 5 guards and spread the floor.  Leading scorers for Kelly were Nigal Barber with 20 and Cam Franks with 19.  Kelly's next game is Monday at 4 in Lake Charles in the St. Louis tournament.
  21. If you guys really want to keep your bigs a secret just leave them home tonight.  We will have an agreement that no players over 6 foot allowed on the court tonight.
  22. Kelly will have to step up their intensity to beat LCM.  They had lapses against BC that they can't have against LCM.  Lack of size is going to be a problem all year for Kelly so they have to figure out a way to win against bigger more physical teams.  The FB players will help but it will take those guys a couple of weeks to get in basketball shape.  Looking forward to a good game.  I'll take Kelly at home in a close one.
  23. Shad played well.  He started the fast break that resulted in easy buckets for his teammates on several occasions.  Only scored 8 points but thats not the whole story of what he meant to our team.  There will be games where we will need him to score more than last night.
  24. Kelly was led by Cam Franks (23), Andrew Pace (13), Thomas Falgout (11) and Shad Wise (8).  Kelly was up 36-33 at half, but the full court press wore BC down in the 2nd half.  LCM at Kelly Friday at 6.  Kelly will have to shoot better against a much bigger LCM team.
