  1. Well maybe Texas gets Frazier from Kimball and Randle from Prestonwood to sign along with Taylor.  Frazier visited this past week and Randle in coming in a couple of weeks.  It's a big maybe, but I would be thrilled with that class.  If they get those three along with everyone coming back they could be really good next year.
  2. You would think with all the attention Cleare has gotten over the past couple of years that someone would have noticed Taylor as well.  I mean one of the big schools.
  3. Kelly plays The Village tonight so I will get to see the kid play in person.  We play them every year but last year I mainly watched the Cleare kid.  All I remember about this young man is that he is extremely quick.
  4. I did not mean to imply that Knowles will not try to win, but all practice preparation this week will be directed towards St. Thomas.  Hopefully, we will at least make a game of it.  And as a added bonus I will get to see a future Longhorn.  They need all the help they can get right now.
  5. Kelly will be getting ready for St. Thomas all week.  I doubt that Coach Knowles will treat the game with The Village as anything more than a scrimmage.  I haven't seen them this year, but we play them every year and we actually beat them about 3 years ago.  Coach will use this game to work on things he wants the team to improve on and get better.
  6. Kelly won 39-38 on a lay up by Charlie Haught on a feed from Thomas Falgout with about 3 seconds left.  The final score was the only lead for Kelly the entire game except for a 1-0 lead at the start.  Concoridia was up 13-9 at the half as they ran as much as two minutes off the clock on a couple of 2nd qtr possessions.  Kelly struggled to make shots when they finally got the ball.  Concordia opened the 3rd qtr on a 9-0 run to go up 22-9, but Kelly had cut the lead to 29-22 by the end of the 3rd as some shots finally began to fall.  Kelly continued to cut into the lead in the 4th but never took the lead until the final bucket of the game.  It wasn't pretty, but in district who cares a win is a win.  Kelly was led in scoring by Thomas Falgout -13 and Andrew Pace -10.  Concordia shot 21 free throws to 6 for Kelly and I can't tell who how many charges were called.  Basically, it you fell down it was a charge. Kelly has road games this week Tuesday at The Village in a non-district game and Friday at St. Thomas.  Did The Village win the Nederland tournament?  I can't remember.  I know their point guard has committed to play at the University of Texas.  St. Thomas may be down a little this year from past years, but that place is an extremely tuff place to play.  Two tuff road trips to Houston this week, but 2-0 in district so far.
  7. Haven't seen Silsbee play this year, but Kelly played WOS there and I was really impressed with their team.  Very athletic and #2 (Paige) was unstopable, at least that night.  We pulled within two late in the game and he just took over.  He finished the game with about 28 points, hit 4 or 5 3's and most were contested shots.  Should be a good game.
  8. Sounds like PNG did the same thing to Ozen that they did to Kelly.  They got ahead at the start of the game by 8 or 10 points and then turned the game into a half court grind it out game.  Kelly tried to speed up the tempo but PNG did a great job of playing at their pace.  Kelly finally took the lead early in the 4th qtr., but it was a battle the entire way.  The key to beating PNG is to get an early lead so they can't totally control the flow of the game.  And yes #15 can shot the rock.
  9. Huge win for Kelly last night.  To win district they pretty much had to beat St. Pius at home.  After getting down 24-11 mid way through the 2nd qtr, Kelly outscored Pius 44-21 the rest of the way.  But make no mistake, Kelly was only up 47-45 with 1:50 left, so the game was much closer than the final score.  Kelly was led in scoring by Cam Franks -15, Thomas Falgout - 14, Nigel Barber - 12 and Shad Wise - 11.  Great crowd last night and gotta give a shout out to the Kelly students for creating an awesome game atmosphere.  Great job and keep it up. Kelly's next game is next Friday Jan 18th at home against district newcomer Tomball Concordia Lutheran.  Another tuff district game.  There are no easy games in this district.
  10. Kelly defeated St. Pius in the Houston Christian tournament in probably the most complete game they have played all year.  It was a very intense game and a very close game throughout and my understanding is that St. Pius had a starter hurt for that game.  However, at home with what is expected to be a big crowd my heart says Kelly by 4.  My brain says St. Pius will be very focused on beating Kelly after having lost to Kelly already.
  11. I agree.  The Kelly coaches scouted St. Pius this past Saturday night even though we played them earlier in the year in a tournament.  They also scouted Cleveland before we played them in the Woodville tournament.  Heck when I coached little dribblers i used to try and watch the team I played the next week in their game the week before.  It always helps to know what you are up against.  Kelly had not had the opportunity to see Big Sandy play before the game last night.
  12. Let me start off by saying I was really impressed by Big Sandy.  They have some kids that can flat out shot the ball.  But also realize that the Big Sandy coach was at Kelly's game against Sabine Pass last Friday night scouting Kelly and Sabine Pass, who is in their district.  Kelly went into the game not knowing anything about Big Sandy.  It made a difference, especially in the first half.  Kelly stepped up the defensive pressure in the second half, switching to a full court man-to-man in your face defense.  The defense created some turnovers and easy baskets for Kelly and made it a little harder to hit those 3 pointers.
  13. Score was 67-64 Kelly in overtime.  Kelly was down 29-22 at halftime and trailed by as much as 13 early in the 3rd.  Kelly cut the lead to 47-41 by the end of the 3rd.  Kelly went on a 13 to 1 run to take a 54-48 lead with 2 minutes left but Big Sandy closed the game on a 6-0 run to tie the score at 54.  In overtime, BS scored the first 5 points to go up 59-54 then Kelly went on a 10-0 run to take a 64-59 lead.  Final score 67-64.  Kelly was led in scoring by Nigel Barber 14, Shad Wise 12, Thomas Falgout and Cam Franks with 11 each, and Charlie Haught 10.  BS made 11 3 pointers to 7 3 pointers by Kelly.  Kelly was only 10 of 21 on free throws. Kelly starts district play Friday when they host St. Pius.  Kelly defeated St. Pius 61-56 in the Houston Christian tournament earlier in the year in a very intense game.  In my opinion, the best all around game Kelly has played all year.  Kelly will have to play a great game to defeat St. Pius again, even at home.
  14. You're right.  My bad.  I need to read a little closer next time.
  15. Wow.  I guess Kelly would have won the YMBL since Kelly beat Cleveland and Cleveland beat Madison and Madison won the YMBL.  They should just give Kelly the trophy.  HaHa!  It was obvious when Kelly played Cleveland that they were very talented.
  16. Kelly led from start to finish starting the game on a 10 to 0 run.  Kelly was led in scoring by Cam Franks 16, Shad Wise 13 and Nigel Barber 12.  Last pre-district game Tuesday at Big Sandy.
  17. I agree, that's why I said I'm not a fan of stalling.  But Kelly has done it all year and I doubt they are going to change.
  18. Not sure exactly what you mean by that comment, but I promise you that if Kelly has the led in the 4th quarter, they will spread the floor and run clock.  And they have the guards this year to do it.  They will also run clock at the end of the quarter to take the last shot, sometimes as much as a minute or more.  Personally I'm not a big fan of this, but it has worked pretty well for them so far.
  19. My understanding is the game time has been changed to 6. I have not seen Sabine Pass play, but looking at the scores of their games I would say Kelly by 15+.  However, Kelly tends to get leds and then spread the floor and run clock, actually keeping the score closer than if they had just continued to play the way that got them the led.  So predicting margins of victory for Kelly is difficult.
  20. The championship game between Kelly and Woodville was an ugly game.  The plan by Woodville seemed to be slow down the game and play tuff man to man defense.  There was a lot of hand checking, grabbing jerseys and a lot of contact around the basket.  The refs let it go.  Three different times Kelly players were bleeding and had to either change jerseys or come out of the game.  We haven't had that happen all year but happened three different times in one game.  None of that really matters.  Kelly won the game on the road in a difficult environment.  And the only reason you play these pre-district games is to get ready for district.  Games against Cleveland and Woodville will help our team.  You want to see as many different styles of play as possible.  And you want to see as many different styles by the refs as possible.  All our district games are in Houston so you never know what to expect from the refs.  Typically they allow more physical play over there than what is allowed in this area. Good well run tournament as always by Woodville.  If your kids play as hard and physical as they did against Kelly I expect you will have some success in your district.
  21. I was told that Jasper beat Splendora, so Jasper plays Woodville in one semifinal and Kelly plays Huntington in the other semifinal.  Winners play tomorrow night for championship.
  22. Kelly was down 20-10 at the end of the 1st quarter, but picked up the intensity in the 2nd quarter to take the lead at halftime 32-28.  Final score 66-49 Kelly.  Leading scorers were Cam Franks - 21, Thomas Falgout - 16 and Shad Wise - 14.  Kelly plays Huntington at 4:30 in the semifinals.
  23. I agree with Indian 15/16.  In fact I started a thread about it when I first saw the bracket last week.  No way Kelly and Cleveland should have played in the first game and they should not have even been in the same bracket.  They should not have met until the championship game.  Both teams were rusty from the Christmas break and Kelly hasn't played a game since Dec 11 at PNG because they had mid-terms the week before Christmas.  Kelly was only allowed to have 1 hours practices during mid-terms so it was an extended layoff for our guys.  Our guard play was the difference.  Good luck to Cleveland the rest of the tournament.
  24. Leading scorers for Kelly were Cam Franks (27), Thomas Falgout (16), Nigal Barber (14), Andrew Pace (9) and Shad Wise (8).  Kelly was ahead from start to finish and opened up a 20 point lead early in the 4th quarter.  The quickness of the Kelly gaurds was to much for Cleveland. Kelly plays Center tomorrow at 11:10.  Center beat Hardin 60-35 I think.  Has anyone seen Center play this year?  What do they have?
