  1. i was told that Proctor is starting on the mound for Kelly tonight.  It should be fun to watch.  And yes, this Thursday Coach Biggio and his son will be at Kelly at 7.  Cavin is commited to Norte Dame.  There were a lot of MLB scouts at the game in Houston and Proctor created a buzz with his opposite field homerun.  I was told the scouts were there to see Cavin and the pitcher for St. Thomas.
  2. If Houston is considered the area, St. Pius is playing at Kelly tonight at 6.  Kohl Stewart, A&M quarterback signee, is pitching for Pius.  As of this morning, he is projected to be the number 8 pick in the next major league draft.  I've heard some have him as a top 5 pick.  Reportedly, his fastball was clocked at 99 mph in a bullpen workout for scouts last week. We have been told he is pitching tonight and there will be a lot of major league scouts in attendence.  Come check him out if you got nothing else going on.
  3. Kelly defeated Concordia Lutheran 8-5.  Michael Hayes pitched a complete game for the victory.  Kelly is now 1-2 in district.
  4. Kelly plays San Antonio St. Anthony tonight at 8:30 and if they win will play the winner between El Paso Cathedral and Plano John Paul II tomorrow at 1:30.  All games are at College Station HS.  Thanks.
  5. I have never been a big fan of the spread offense, but we run it every time we have a lead in the 4th quarter. Kelly finished 2nd in district based on point differential with St. Thomas.  Kelly's first playoff game will be Friday night at 8:30 against Austin St. Michaels at College Station HS.  If Kelly wins they will play at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at College Station HS.
  6. Kelly was ahead from start to finish in this one, holding a 26-20 lead at the half and extending that to 40-27 by the end of the 3rd.  Thomas only made 2 3's the entire game in contrast to the game in Houston where it seemed like every 3 they shot went in in the 2nd half.  Good team defense by Kelly and bad shoting by Thomas.  Leading scorers for Kelly were Cam Frank (12), Thomas Falgout (11) and Shad Wise (10).  Falgout was also huge on the defensive boards.  Kelly finishes district 3-3 and tied with Thomas.  Both teams make the playoffs starting next Friday in College Station.  There were rumors after the game that the two teams would play again next Tuesday to break the tie for 2nd and 3rd place in district.  Hopefully they decided to flip a coin, but supposedly the Thomas coach wanted to play.
  7. St. Pius defeated Concordia 48-41 last night.  So Pius wins the district at 4-2.  If Kelly win tonight against St. Thomas by +6, Kelly finishes 2nd at 3-3.  If Kelly win by -6, Kelly finishes 3rd due to losing the tie breaker with Thomas who would also be 3-3.  A loss by Kelly and they are out of the playoffs.  Should be a very good game.  Come support a local team as they fight to make the playoffs.
  8. Yes.  The Kelly vs. St. Thomas game has been moved to Friday at 7 at Kelly.  There shouldn't be to many boys games Friday night so come out and support a local team.
  9. The bigger the crowd the better.  And this should be a really good game between two very good teams that don't like each other.  Kelly will be fighting for their playoffs lives and need all the support they can get.  Come early, be loud and help support a local team trying to secure a playoff spot.
  10. St. Pius beat St. Thomas 69-51 today.  Pius and Thomas are 3-2 and Kelly and Concordia are 2-3.  If Pius beats Concordia Tuesday, they will win district.  If Concordia beats Pius and Kelly beats Thomas then all four teams will be 3-3.  So far no one has won a road game in district, but I think Pius will beat Concordia.  That means if Kelly can beat Thomas by +6 Kelly will get 2nd in district.  If Kelly wins but by -6 they get 3rd.  A Kelly loss and they finish out of the playoffs.
  11. The teams Kelly has lost to (The Village, St. Thomas, St. Pius and Concordia) would probably beat them all except Kountze and even Kountze would have their hands full with The Village.  I have never commented about the rankings other than to say that the teams we play are very good.
  12. If Kelly loses to Thomas, the only way they make the playoffs as the 3rd place team would be if Pius loses their two remaining games and both teams end up 2-4.  Kelly has the tie breaker on Pius.  But I think Pius will beat Thomas tonight.  Kelly has to win against Thomas and I can't think of a scenario where Kelly would win district.  Kelly most likely ends up second or third.  If Pius beats Thomas and Kelly beats Thomas and then Concordia beats Pius I think Concordia would win district because they already have the tie breakers on Kelly and Thomas and could get it on Pius if they win by +5.  All 4 teams would be 3-3 and Concordia would have tie breakers on everyone.  Kelly would get second by having the tie breaker on Pius and Thomas if they beat Thomas +6.  Kelly gets third if they beat Thomas but by less than 6.  Clear as mud.
  13. Kelly was down 23-15 at halftime, cut the lead to 1 with the ball in the 3rd qtr but could never take the lead.  Kelly got back down by about 7 or 8 and could never really get much closer than that.  Kelly now is 2-3 in district with a home game against St. Thomas next Tuesday. Leading scorers for Kelly were Thomas Falgout with 12 and Nigel Barber with 11.
  14. People don't understand that the teams in our district are producing D1 talent every year.  Last year a kid from St. Thomas signed with Stanford.  A kid from St. Pius went to either San Diago or San Diago State, I can't remember which.  And the big kid from Houston Christian I had heard was offered by Pepperdine, but I'm not sure where he went.  There may have been one or two others that went D1 as well.  I'm not really sure about this years group, although I think the D1 talent in the district this year is mainly underclassmen. We might have had more players in our district sign with D1 schools than this area produced last year.  We are not playing teams full of scrubs.  We are playing kids that play basketball year round and a lot of them play year round together as a team.  This is the first team we have had in three years that is able to compete.
  15. Justsaying - Kelly has not played HJ this year, so I'm not sure where you got that.  colliecw - As far as falling in the rankings, I never even mentioned the rankings and I understand when you lose you are going to fall.  I am responding to the comment that there will now be a common opponent between Kelly and EC.  I was just pointing out that there are already common opponents.  One thing I am sure of is that the teams we play in our district are much better than the competition EC faces in their district.  Every team in our district is good.  There are no easy games.
  16. East Chambers lost to Big Sandy 72-39 (Dec. 11) and lost to WOS 68-40 (Dec. 14), both home games for EC.  Kelly beat Big Sandy 67-64 (Jan 8) and lost to WOS 64-55 (Nov. 27 - 2 point game with 1:30 left to play), both road games for Kelly.  There's your point of reference.  Both Wise and Falgout have played the last two games injured.  Wise has a severly sprained ankle that has effected his explosiveness to the basket and Falgout reinjured his thumb that was hurt during football.  Not trying to make excuses but those are the facts.  Those are our two best players and two senior starters. And yes the game with Hitchcock is cancelled.  Coach Knowles is trying to give the players some time to rest.
  17. St. Pius came out on fire to start the game jumping ahead 23-10 at the end of the 1st.  The 2nd qtr was pretty even with the score 32-22 St. Pius at halftime.  Kelly came out hot to start the 3rd cutting the lead to 34-33, but then St. Pius closed the qtr on a 12-5 run to lead 46-38 at the end of the 3rd.  St. Pius increased the lead to 12 at 56-44, but then Kelly made one last run and cut the lead to 2 at 58-56 with about 1:30 left.  St. Pius made enough free throws down the stretch to close out the victory 62-57.  Kelly trailed the entire game, made several runs but could never take the lead.  Both teams are now 2-2 in district with Kelly holding the head to head tie breaker by beating St. Pius by 10 at home and losing by 5 on the road.  The other district game between Concordia and St. Thomas was postponed last night due to electrical problems in the gym at St. Thomas.  Kelly still controls its own destiny with games remaining against Concordia and St. Thomas. Kelly was led in scoring by Cam Frank (18) and Shad Wise (13).  Next game is Friday at Concordia.  The non-district game at Hitchcock next Tuesday has been cancelled.
  18. I too am surprised Kelly fell to 5th.  We lost to The Village on the road.  Doesn't The Village have wins over Silsbee and Nederland at home.  And then we lose to St. Thomas in overtime on the road.  St. Thomas is a very difficult place to win.  We have wins over Big Sandy there and Cleveland.  Doesn't really make much sense to me.
  19. I've seen him twice this year.  Once against Houston Christian and once against Episcopal.  Episcopal has 4 or 5 guys going D1 and he dominated that game.  Probably had about 40 points.  Had a couple of amazing dunks.  Not break away dunks but dunks in traffic over people.  He did everything from bringing the ball up the court against the press, to making 3's, to rebounding.  He put on a show in front of a standing room only crowd and several major college coaches.  He is a special player.
  20. Kelly has not played St. Thomas this year.  This is a game Kelly should have won.  Kelly was ahead 44-34 at the end of the 3rd, but turnovers, missed free throws and not very good defense did Kelly in.  Kelly was out scored 21-11 in the 4th and then outscored 15-9 in overtime.  When you only have 6 district games losing a game you should have won is tuff, especially when you have a chance to win on the road.  There are no easy wins in our district and all the teams are pretty evenly matched.  So far all three of our district games have come down to a couple of possesions at the end of the game.  We have Pius and Concordia on the road and then Thomas at home to finish the season.
  21. Your schedule has Kelly playing St. Thomas Jan 29 but we actually play them tomorrow the 25th at St. Thomas.
  22. I agree.  Wise would have made a huge difference in this game.  The flow of the game would have allowed him to excel.  At this point I just hope he is ready to go Friday, but it didn't look good at all after the game.  His ankle will be a problem the rest of the season I'm afraid.
  23. I don't follow recruiting close enough to know.
  24. After watching Taylor play last night, I have to agree with Dickie, he is a good solid player but not an elite type talent.  For Texas to compete at a high level, they need to get higher level players.  Texas problem is if they get Frazier and/or Randle, but Kabongo(sp?) goes pro, Felix is running the point again with Taylor as the back up.  Feliz isn't an elite level player either.  To make it all work they need an elite level point guard.
  25. Kelly was actually ahead 22-19 at the end of the 1st qtr.  But the injury to Wise was huge.  This was a game were his ability to get to the basket would have made a big difference.  In fact he was injured on a drive to the basket were he was fouled and came down on someone's foot.  The problem for Kelly was that both their post players had 3 fouls at the end of the 1st.  The Village was getting the ball inside on every possesion.  When one of Kelly's post fouled out with about 2:30 left in the 2nd, the score was 34-33 The Village.  The Village closed out the half on a 8-0 run to lead 42-33 at the half.  The score was 60-43 at the end of 3rd and the final was 77-56 as The Village just slowly built on their lead in the second half.  Kelly played the entire second half with the same 5 players as the injury to Wise and Haught foul out left them with no subs.  Another point, The Village played their starters the entire game.  In fact, their starting 5 played the entire 4th period and ended the game on the floor.  The Village only had 6 players score and only played 7 or 8 guys the entire game. Kelly was led in scoring by Andrew Pace -17 pts, Thomas Falgout - 15 pts and Cam Frank -12 pts.  Taylor scored 21 for The Village, but the damage was really done by #10 - 22 pts and #13 - 17 pts, their two post players who dominated the game inside.  Sorry no names, but I understand #13 is being recruited by several D-1 schools and I would think #10 could play somewhere.  Kelly goes back to district play Friday at St. Thomas.  Hopefully Wise will recover by then and be able to play.
