  1. I've been about 6 times also, and I would say that its probably the best athletic event you can possible go to. With so many games in 3 days, its an absolute hoops junkie heaven. Combine that with the close proximity of the hotels, great restaurants, downtown scene, and dear i forget Scholz Beer Garden, and you have yourself a man's version of "Tranquility." LOL BTW, I have some buddies that have been going since, I believe '86.
  2. 1. Stanley Bonewitz, SA East Central 2. Chris Bosh, Dallas Lincoln 3. Darrell Arthur, SOC
  3. Everyone that said Buna should have went for 2, was in my opinion 100% right. Ya'll were on the road, with momentum, and EC hadn't showed they could stop ya'll on that drive. It really was a no brainer for me. I know this is a cliche, but its a same one team had to lose.
  4. The EC/Buna game was one for the ages. I was really impressed at the team Buna had, and their ability to consistently move the ball on EC all night. I have to say, any Buna fan could easily make the argument that they totally outplayed the Bucs, and should have won the game. But in saying all that, the EC "Fighting Tramain Thomas's" came out on top and should go on an win the district. I also agree with a previous post about the officiating. Its was bad, but not in the since that they favored one team. Just alot of penalties, conferences, and delays. Really disrupted the flow of the game. My hat goes off to both teams. Both should go on to win a few games in the playoffs. Good luck the rest of the way to the Cougars and Bucs!!!!!
  5. Yeah, are we really having this conversation? I mean the kid (T. Thomas) is the Coverboy for 2A this season. The only reason his stats aren't out of this world is because he only plays half a game most of the time.
  6. He is playing great, but the problem is his WR's can't catch a cold. They are terrible!!!!!!!!!!! He has been throwing BB's all night, and they keep dropping everything.
  7. BMTDC, what years have Buna upset EC? Only time that might have happened was back in the 80's when EC was still 3A.
  8. Cat, no he was a SR last year. But man was he a scorer or what? I watched him against Big Sandy in Huntsville, and he really filled it up. Something like 38pts.
  9. WHSAlum, when did EC lose 2 games to Warren? Not saying they didn't, just trying to figure out when it happened. Was one of them at the Evadale tourney 2 years ago?
  10. Whsalum, one thing I can't debate with you is your coach. Coach Carter's resume speaks for itself. BTW, no disrespect with what I said earlier, its just my opinion and the way I think things will play out. Good Luck this season.
  11. I will assure all of you outside of Warren, no school will compete with EC and Kountze. This is just my opinion so feel free to bash it if you like, but I have heard this "we will compete" talk for the last 3 years and each year same thing happens. And I really don't think Warren will hold up under the Kountze pressure and they couldn't handle Tramain last year, so what makes them think they will do it this year, because although they have gotten better, so has Kountze and EC. And I know this may sound odd without P. Guillory and G. Leday, but this may be EC best team of all, or rather best shot at winning the title. About the injuries, if that should happen to Tramain or Devin then all bets are off, but if it should happen to anyone else both teams should be okay. BTW, give Ben West and Anahuac 2-3 years and he should have that program rolling. He will keep them respectable this year, but watch out in the next few seasons, because the guy can flat out coach.
  12. I said this in a post earlier and I will say it again. It want be as close as people think, Kountze and EC are the class of district with Warren a distant 3rd. Outside of that no other team can even compete with Kountze or EC, because they are simply that good. And thats not taking a shot at any other program, its just when you have 2 of the top 5 programs in 2A in your district its really hard to compete with that.
  13. TheChosen1, You ain't going to get me to argue with you on that one, because I totally agree. Come mid-January, you bet your paycheck the Lions will be ready for EC. Every year that series is a WAR, and this year will be no different. Also, if you know anything about the series, its not always the best or most talented team that wins any given game, its just the team that wants it more on that night.
  14. They have a soph. (Jacoby Harrington sp????), who got moved up at the end of the season, and should fit in real well with this years team. There is no doubt, G Leday and P. Guillory will be missed, but just like most great programs, you find a way to continue on without them. About the district, it isn't going to be near as close as you think. EC and Kountze will be the class of the district, with Warren coming in a distant 3rd. After that, good luck finding any team that will compete with the top 2. Not to shot change any program, but when you talk about those 2 programs, you are talking about 2 of the top 5 programs in the state over the last 3 years.
  15. TheChosen1, along with Tramain, EC has Vance McDonald and Donte Raymond, which is a true 3 headed monster. All 3 are big, strong, physical, and with Raymond and McDonald playing down low, it gives them a inside/outside presence. They will definetly be the favorite in the district, but that is not to say that Kountze can't beat them. Once again this year, those 2 district games will be a war, and could end up being 4 match ups before it all said and done like 2 of the last 3 years.
  16. Central/Lumberton here. Gotta believe both teams have a lot to prove and lots of questions to answer. We all know that the PNG//Ned. game will be exciting but its that way every year. We are venturing into unchartered water with the Jags and Raiders having a meaningful game. Good luck to all 4 teams, but game of the week has to be the Battle in South Hardin County.
  17. There was a kid from Woden about 8-10 years ago named Kyle Fountain, and he could absolutely fly. He was only about 5'-9" maybe 5'-10", but he could dunked anyway you wanted it. He actually made ESPN Sportcenter for a dunk he did at the Texas High School All-Star game.
  18. 1. Stanley Bonewitz (SA East Central) against El Paso Riverside at the '95 State Tourney Semifinals. I have never heard 12,000 collective gasps everytime someone touches a ball like the crowd did that night. He was simply amazing in everything he did (passing, shooting, dribbling.) Simply amazing. 2. Chris Bosh (Dallas Lincoln) against Ozen in the 2002 State Finals. A friend and I knew after leaving that game we watched a player that had a chance at being a real superstar. 3. TJ White (East Chambers) in 1996 against Crockett in a Playoff warmup game. He went off for 50 pts (I believe he had like 4 dunks). He was incredible that night. Honorable Mention: D. Arthur (South Oak Cliff) against Angleton 2 years ago in the State Semifinals. He reminded me of a young Bosh. He could shoot the mid range jumper, defend the perimeter, and make clutch plays with the game on the line. Will have a real future in the NBA.
  19. Dickey V, I love the fact that you like to stir the pot. Am I a local Ozen fan, not really. But am I a Ozen hater, heck NO!!! If I remember correctly, earlier this year after the State Tourney I said this year was Boutte's best job yet, and that I was more impressed with the improvement of that team than any of his other teams, and was in Austin cheering for them to take home the gold. But in your eyes, because SE Texans like myself don't put them up with the likes of the Bulls, Lakers and Celtics, then I am a HATER. WOW!!!! And whether Perkins was a Junior or Senior he was outplayed by Bosh, and like I said that is not the worst thing in the world. And the reason I say that is because, when I walked away from the Drum that day, a friend and I both agreed we may never see a player (Bosh) that good again at the State tourney. Its nothing against Perkins he's still making his millions for the Celtics, but Bosh was then and still is, better than him. One last thing, of couse Perkins belonged with the Top players, he was a 7ft with amazing upside and potential. He just wasn't in that elite category at that time.
  20. Dickey V, instead of coaching you need to become the PR rep for Ozen High School Basketball, because after all, thats all you do. Yes Kendrick had good numbers in that game, and was the only player from Ozen that looked like he had a pulse in that game, but in saying that, he didn't look like a Top 10 nationally ranked player. Even though Bosh didn't guard him, anybody at that game, walked away knowing who was the best player in the state, and it wasn't because Lincoln won. It was because Bosh was head and shoulders better than Perkins, which isn't the worst thing in the world considering how good Bosh is these days. Bosh is still the best HS player I've ever watched, with Darrell Arthur a close 2nd. And you are totally a homer if you think Ozen is in the Top 5 list of all time Texas High School basketball teams. They probably make the Top 5 "all-decade" team, but,"all-time" give me a break!!!!
  21. The guy was "Player of the Year" in the Ivy league his Senior year, torched Univ. of Texas in Austin for 16 pts, and then went on to play in Italy for a time, enough said. He needs to be on the list.
  22. Lazeek, as much as I loved this past years Hawks and agree with the lack of respect they got all year long, that years Kountze team without a doubt would beat HJ. They were totally juiced and would have probably made it to Austin in 4A (For sure would have given D. Gibson and Houston Jones, all that they wanted). I mean lets get real, they played Milby tough, who ended as a top 5 USAToday team. Love me some HJ Hawks but I have to side with the Kountze fans on this one.
