  1. I will end my part of this conversation by saying this. I know you have strong ties to Ozen, but to say "never" is a total bias comment and border line crazy. We all have rights to our opinion, and I'll leave it at that. About Aldine, I will say this, they were a Top ranked 5A school with arguably the Top Junior in the state playing in that game against 3a Silsbee. And whether they are tradition rich, basketball or football school, doesn't matter in this situation. The point is that Aldine was really good and was beat by a smaller, less talented team, which happens in the great game of basketball. Another example, George Mason should never ever beat UCONN, EVER!!!!!!!! (Which is really the same situation we are talking about) But it happened, so don't get carried away on bold predictions, which is shocking to me, being you are in the coaching profession.
  2. I did think about it and its apple and oranges. I know its an example, but Football and Basketball are in 2 different categories Like I said earlier, Silsbee had no business beating Aldine 2 years ago but they did, and it simply because basketball is just that way. Good 2A and 3A programs can sometimes compete with larger schools. Kountze played deep into the game with Pflugerville Connally, who gave fits to SOC last year, which is just another example of what Im talking about. And lets just take last year out of the equation, Ozen will have a down year eventually, everyone does, so NEVER can not be said.
  3. DickieV, Basketball is not football. Don't get me wrong I totally think Ozen would win this year, but lets not use the word "Never". And I agree , last year was Boutte's best coaching job thus far in his career, but early in the season last year Ozen could have been easly exposed by a good playing senior group at Kountze, or a hot shooting HJ team. Probably wouldn't happened but it definetly wasn't out of the realm of possibility. On the same lines, nobody and I mean nobody, would have given Silsbee a change 2 years ago to beat a very good Aldine team with Gary Johnson, but it happened. This year Ozen could not be touched by a lower classification, but early in the season last year Ozen was very suspect.
  4. RollLeft, ....Ever is a strong word. Are you sure on your research?
  5. Does this unforunate kid have a brother that played for West Brook this year? Prayers go out to the family and school.
  6. Big School: Ozen will be loaded, and should be back in Austin. Small School: EC, HJ, Silsbee and Kountze will be good. So I'll go with EC because they have Tramain and no one else does. He could have a Donahoe type season where he refuses to let his team lose.
  7. Spinks, I agree that it will be tough next year with Silsbee in the district, but I have 3 reasons why they will have a chance to get out of the region for the second straight year. 1. They return all but 2 players, and I know Donahoe is HUGE, but if Jarvis, Sundgren, and Burrell can absorb most of his scoring, then guys like Payne, Ricosa, and Weldon can take care of the rest. I know its easier said than done, in replacing a guy like Ryan, but life goes on. Good High School programs seem to always do that. 2. They are the STATE CHAMPS, which goes along way to the mindset of a 17 or 18 year old. You will see the Hawks play with a swagger next year that you haven't seen in years past, so if you thought the HJ Nation was strong before. WATCH OUT! 3. The most overlooked reason: Besides Burrell, all the players on the team are straight basketball. Coach Sutherland will have them working as a team for next year here in a few weeks, which is priceless. I know it would be crazy to think that HJ is the Region 3 or even District favorites, but to think they are a one and done is also equally crazy. My predictions is that HJ make another trip to Huntsville, and then you let the chips fall where they may.
  8. Once we are taking request, I think yall should add me to the All SETX team. Seems to work, so I thought I would give it a try. LOL
  9. Being someone that was at the Drum this weekend and seeing almost all the games played, one of the best things I saw was the passion, creativity, and fun the Hawk Hecklers brought to the Erwin Center. I truely believe ya'll were part of the magic this year, which brought a sense of College atmosphere to the High School game. I also stuck around after the win, and to see ya'll chant every coach and players name was by far the COOLEST thing I've ever seen at a High School event. WAY TO GO GUYS, and CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!
  10. To leave Preston Guillory (EC) out of the Top 15 is crazy, but to not even rank him is absolutely INSANE.
  11. ECBucFan, very well put. THey have been great players and are a huge part of the "golden era" in EC basketball. Good luck to both guys in college.
  12. I've seen Tatum play this year, and I didn't see any dunking, but I did see athleticism. In saying that, they are a Kountze with one stud (Harrison Hartt), not 7 of them, but with that many athletes on the floor they are always a threat. They like to press, but do a lot of differnt things defensively to confuse you. I pick EC by around 10, because EC has Thomas and Guillory and Tatum doesn't. But it will be great to see Coach Evans, Guillory, Koch, and Hartt. Good luck to both teams, lots of ties in this one.
  13. When talking about Donahoe and Thomas, you are simply splitting hairs. They both are incrediable players, but even better kids. They both carry their respective teams, and are true floor leaders. I have to say it has been more fun watching these 2 kids play over the last 3 seasons and you can't go wrong picking either one. BTW, I know Letsinger had a bad game last night, but after watching him you can see the kid is a real ballplayer. He controls the game similar to the way some of the top guards (Donahoe, Thomas, and Brown) do for their teams. Good luck to the SETX teams coming up in playoffs!!
  14. If we talk all-time its: 1a. Lincoln (enough said) 1b. Buna (they have a book written on their program) Modern vs. Old School
