Well I guess I might be the BAD guy  here. LN was great for Nederland. He turned them from the laughing stock of the district into a contender for the DC yearly. I would think Nederland would be better off hiring Monte over an outsider. My reasons are this.. Nederland has been good at being a little above average. They are not making deep playoff runs on a regular basis. And we all know the facilities are not the best in the area, much less the state. That being said, I find it hard to believe they could get a better qualified, dedicated coach like Monte to replace LN. Big time coaches are looking for money, facilities, and athletes. Not bashing any Nederland coach or fan, because they have done better then everyone else in the district for years, and have been the only glimmer of hope many of years to go a few rounds. I just think as a whole, if I was looking for a place to coach.. I would first ask, why are bonds never passed in Nederland? Why do we have old facilities? And what does my feeder schools look like for athletes. And of course, how much money are you going to pay me!!! LN was a special coach that fit perfect in the city of Nederland. And IMO, you already have a guy on the staff that knows the city, fans, and families, that is dedicated, and has been mentored by LN for years... Good luck on whatever happens.... But as I have stated for years, you can never count out Nederland because of the LN factor.... It might be interesting now....

I'm sure surprised.   Guess he's just tired of the grind.  Hope he's got a recliner.  Absolute necessity for retired folks.  Just a suggestion Coach.
And one more thing, you did a heckuva job coaching.  You will be missed when the 2017 football season starts up.  Enjoy your Retirement.

When you start reading rankings and believing them you become weak.

Sweetwater has no clue as to what they are fixing to face.Reminds me of that Navasota beast a few years back that we thought we could hang with.Didn't take but a few possessions by them to know that we were in for a long night.When you got all the pieces...ya got all the pieces.

C.O. WILSON 8th has beaten groves and silsbee this year and lost by 3 to M.L. KING in a good competitive game with several lead changes.5-1 on the season so far.

I know I may be in the wrong forum, but great road win against a PAC 12 team for the Cards. Colton Weisbrod 16 points and 12 rebounds and played all 40 minutes...

I don't know any fan who would be MORE excited that we won a share of the DC. We are ALL stoked that we beat Nederland!!!!
i will say that is was a great game and could have gone either way.  I am just glad it went our way.

Kids got robbed for adults trying to live through their kids. There was no wrong doing on Nederlands part. There was no contact between Ned Sr coaches and the board. Also no NYFA board members have any affiliation with anyone on the Sr team whatsoever. Makes no sense that they would stack the Sr team. They decided they had to make an example out of us with no evidence. Port Arthur has 1 team in every division, yet is 4 times the size of Nederland. Port Neches Sr team last year won the superbowl because they had 1 "stacked" team. Such BS. Lets the kids play. Anything they can do to get the competition out of the way is what they are doing. OF rep is a joke.

Go back to 1984-1988...there were plenty of small crowds back then...the same for 1994-1995...1-8-1 and 1-9 seasons tend to reduce the enthusiasm of even the staunchest fan bases.  Even in the lean years, I will say that PN-G has a core group of fans, but when wins are hard to come by, so are big crowds.  Now, if you want to see monster numbers, then let the Indians get three rounds deep in the playoffs.  When that happens, old timers show up, alumni in Houston, Austin and the Metroplex decide to catch a game, and area schools also throw their support behind the Indians.  Three rounds deep and the numbers will explode.
Hopefully this season the Indians can make some noise in the playoffs and we can have some good times ala 1974-1977 and 1999...38,000 fans in purple and white is a site to see...especially as I get older.
I agree with BMT Soljua...winning cures all...regardless of the program, when you win, the fans show up.

You're not talking apples and apples my friend. GCM is a poor example of what I'm talking about and I'm willing to bet they get their act together in the future and start winning some games. Look at the average of teams...you probably have 50 seniors on your varsity alone. Big 5A. Livingston and Lumberton both probably had only 30 players on the sideline period. I think we suit up 40 on varsity. Long run small schools can't compete with that. Barbers Hill has enough money and is growing fast enough to go and buy the top coach in Texas. Can't compete with that. I know all you PA folks felt that when you were in 6A playing the GPNS of the world and going 3 - 7. Glad you're in the district but you're proving my point.

Not sure I consider it participation trophies and ribbons, just fairness and opportunity to compete for all the kids. If I go solely on that thought process, why not combine all the 1A through 4A classifications into just one division and not two? Why have 1A through 6A divisions, why not just 4A like it used to be? Texas has more than doubled in size and number of kids and I fully believe it is the opportunity for them to compete, not whether we make a super duper team out of Orange County and whip everyone's arse (we already have that in WOS). I'm glad my grandchildren are at a 3A school and will get the opportunity to participate rather than a 6A school and have no chance. They don't need a trophy,just the opportunity to earn one. Just my thoughts.

I know TJ people with Kids in PNG....they won't wear purple.

Glad to hear that for Kevin, one door may close, but God has plenty of doors he can open.

Let me ask u this,after the game win or lose would you go up to these boys and call them "rag tag". Or go up to #3 and #5 and call them a "joke".  I've sat back and watched grown men call 16 ,17 year old kids out by numbers and positions. If that how you are then I can't change that. It's classless and uncalled for. I see you only have 4 posts so I'm sure your just on here to start trouble.  There a difference in trash talking and going too far. I tell u what. You want to call kids names and embarrass them on a message board how about meeting me and saying what u said here. I bet u don't because you are a coward. Trash talk all u want ,have fun on the board here ,but leave the name calling of the kids out. Disrespectful, classless,and no room for it here. Like I said u want to call names look me up and call me a name. If u don't have the nuts to say it to a 16,17 year old to there face them don't say it here. 

As a Mom who is passionate about sports that my kids have played/play. I have to stop and remind myself that they are that just kids.  We are on our last kiddo and she plays volleyball at the moment.   
I cant imagine trashing any kid. No matter if they weren't as athletic as another one. They are out there doing what they love and having fun. When it isn't fun anymore it's time to stop. 

I totally understand! My son plays on the O-line for Vidor and he loves the game and loves his coaches and teammates but he is also my child and noone should insult kids over a high school football game that they are so excited to play and just be winning. They are playing with their hearts and noone should discourage them especially grown adults!

You do realize these are someone's kids you are talking about right? Let them play the game they all love! Win or lose we will always love our Pirates AND Coach Mathews!!
