1. So right FanInTheStands,  I highly doubt that Sutherland is allowing that to happen. Rizon you asked "how many underclassmen does HF have playing up?" here's the roster from their website and I see 9 underclassmen...as Faninthestands stated it has everything to do with athletic periods...I don't think it has EVERYTHING to do with it but it definitely has SOMETHING to do with it. Longhorn Varsity Position Height Classification Number Player Guard 5'10             Senior         #1    Ryan Latino Guard 5'8             Junior         #3         Adam Chapman Guard 5'10             Junior         #10  Austin Graham Guard 5'6             Junior         #12  Joey Nguyen Guard 6'0             Freshman      #13         Dante Smith Forward 5'11             Senior         #15         Lance Browning Forward 6'2             Junior          #21         Kyle Brooks Forward 6'2             Senior          #23         Lorenzo Phillips Forward 6'4             Junior         #30    Phillip Williams Forward 5'10             Junior         #33  Myles Johnson Guard 5'8             Senior  #34         Stormey Crutchfield Forward 6'0             Senior         #35  Enrico Daniese Post         6'5                Senior         #41         Logan Johnson Forward 6'1             Sophomore #44         Calob Broussard Forward 6'4             Junior         #00         Jarron Brown
2.
baseball, it's about grooming, investing and spending time with the talent you do have.  Not pointing a finger at any one person because it takes a village to raise a child and that same village to produce an athlete.  The community needs to invest in the athletes, the program needs to groom the athletes and the parents have to be willing to spend/take the time, money and effort to help the athlete determine which sport is right for them and encourage them to pursue their dreams.
mamma, well said...I made some of the same points in this forum and the OF vs HF forum and as someone else said alot of changes have to be made.  Hf has a coaching position posted on their website now that has been posted for at least a year...They are looking for a Coach/Math Teacher....HAHA....HF has to stop putting stipulations on coaching/teacher requirements....stop trying to get two for one....AD/Head Football Coach....it will be very difficult to hire a coach who is also a qualified math teacher.  That's why you wind up getting a qualified math teacher who may have played sports in high school and knows very little about what it takes to be a Coach or build a halfway decent program(in any sport)...Try hiring a COACH and hiring a MATH TEACHER if that's what you need.  We pay our taxes for that reason.
3. Thank you BadMedicine,  Yes HF is definitely doing something right when it comes to academics but I don't think having a quality athletic program would hurt the academics program.  My kids have athletic abilities and still can keep up in the classroom and at test time and one has already graduated top 10 percent of his graduating HF class and is away in college on scholarships (academic scholarships that is) and participating in intramural sports while keeping his GPA high.  Did someone mention genetics?
4. Well we'll see baseball25,  I've known some great athletes and I've known some decent ones and in both instances some have gone to D1 schools and some just to JCs but I've also known some great athletes who have gone on to become nothing because of poor academics too.  It's goes deeper than we need to go on this forum.
5. Well Fed up you brought up a lot of points that have already been addressed and imo i dont think any parents are whining just trying to get to the bottom (or top) of the situation.  There is no dislike of the current coach and it has been stated that the blame doesnt lie in one place.  Also i havent seen anyone talking about moving their kids.  Yes there has been some suggestions made to that effect and some statements made that there are some HF kids that have moved to Kelly and of that i am not aware but i can say this...i have several athletic children of my own and i thank God that they have brains too.  Yes my kids have athletic abilities but it's not all we focus on because with all the ability in the world you still need academics and that's one of the reasons my kids are at HF.  It would just be nice to have the same athletic scholarships offered as you have for academics.  But that won't happen when you have loosing seasons.

7. True Blue you are right and I for one have asked the questions face to face and the reply was "we understand your concerns." I also found out that administrators contracts renew(or not) in February and teachers/coaches renew(or not) in March.  Believe me I will be keeping an eye on all of these activities from school board elections to contract renewals. Speechless--if you look back at HF's middle school record for the past several years (at least 5 that I know of) these teams have always "enjoyed success" from football to basketball to track winning district in several sports over the years and these are the same kids that play multiple sports as they do once they reach high school.  I said once and I'll say again that I understand that kids progress/digress in some sports faster/better than others during the transition from Middle School to High School but just as they do at other schools so do our kids so I don't think that lack of talent is the reason for HFs records.
8. CLT, to respond to your post, you are correct in most that you say also but saying that "it can be turned around if parents will get involved" is not correct because I know many parents who are involved from Little Dribblers/Youth Football/Little League Baseball and Soccer to placing their kids on select leagues and even wanting to volunteer to help coach at the middle school/high school and even during the summer.  Many parents are willing to give of themselves but when you're told you can't use your home facilities it makes it hard.  I know that some have resorted to using other schools and communities facilities just to try to help the kids stay active.
9. THANK YOU bballgod.  You are right in all you said...it takes a lot of different things and someone up top has to want the program to be better too.  The parents want it, the kids want it, the community wants it but it's not happening...???...what else do you do.
10. "Plus having a good coach helps too"  WOW that's TWO...do ya'll know something we don't know? ???
11. You said it bleed orange I didn't (your last statement)  :o
12. I disagree with the two previous replies because 1. I can't wait two years.  There needs to be a change now. and 2. Talent is definitely not lacking.  I think BLUE was asking for honest opinions not sarcasm. Just as you probably take your program seriously we at HF do also.
13. First, Tiger05, your point about having "some repetitiveness in practice and playing high caliber teams before district" I agree with which is why I said "It's an inside job".  I understand that just like raising kids starts at home...well raising basketball players and putting together a basketball team starts "at home" in the gym.  Just like kids need their parents, a team needs a ........  I was trying not to go there!  I can say that the answer to your second question would be "no" the "team" doesn't play the same level of competition even after basketball season.  Some take it upon themselves as individuals to do so but others don't even look at a basketball after basketball season is over but then when basketball season starts again everyone wants to play and once you get to high school it's not little dribblers, i.e. everyone doesn't have to qualify, i.e. you don't have to play every player on your bench and everyone who signs up for basketball should not make the team.  But again I say it starts at "home".
14. I would have to disagree Tiger05.  HF hasn't "gone up against" any teams that they haven't seen before.  They have been playing the same teams that they play in district since Little Dribblers.  I understand that some players develop faster and/better during the transition from Little Dribblers to Middle School to High School but I know that just as other teams have developed so has HF.  Again, the teams that HF has played whether preseason or district are nothing that they aren't used to.  Their rhythm has nothing to do with who they are playing.  It's an inside job.
15. It's really sad when you have talent on a team and they aren't "allowed" to play basketball until the fourth quarter when the game is already somewhat out of reach.  I believe basketball is somewhat of a rhythm sport and you can't get into a "rhythm" just in the fourth quarter.  It has to start in the beginning (first quarter) and continue through the end of the game.  Yes, you have to allow room for error and yes you also have to correct some errors but I don't feel that one turnover or one bad pass or one foul or one missed shot is a reason to pull a player.  If the broadcast is still up you can watch the Silsbee vs HJ game and see that there were numerous turnovers just in the first quarter/half on both sides but the "rhythm" set in and players settled down and got it together.  I really hope a "change gon come" SOON at HF.  Believe it or not the HF teams can hang with the best of them.
16. Someone mentioned hearing that #13 for HF is a Freshman.  This is true.  He is gaining experience, leadership and character as a part of this HF Varsity team.  He can hang with the best of them and has been playing with and against some of them during summer leagues locally and in Houston.  Here is a clip of one of his steals during last nights game against SP....he also attempted to dunk after this steal and got fouled.  Someone posted in an earlier post that he would be dunking by the end of this season...I guess they were right. 17. Don't know if this is a fortunately or unfortunately but I think every game will be a true test for HF Basketball.  If the guys take the game one at a time, keep their heads in the game, don't let getting behind get them down and out of the game, and just play the game like they know how then they will pass some of the tests.  And yes, I said SOME of the tests.  I don't see HF going undefeated but they can definitely have a better season this year than in the past few years.
18. Very impressive game for HF on offensive and defensive ends.  Good passing on offensive lots of steals on defense. Upcoming talent on HF side is definitely present.  The #13 on varsity last night is a Freshman - Dante Smith.    These guys playing now are the same guys that led HF Little Dribblers to the Nationals tournament for the first time in 13 years and the HF Little Dribblers have continued to make it to the Nationals Tournament every year since so keep an eye on HF from Middle to High School levels.    Looking forward to seeing an exciting season.  All three HF teams won against Liberty last night.
19. HF and BC played last Thursday 1/24/08 and HF won after three overtimes. I didn't attend this game but everything I've heard proves that this was the game to attend. HF is undefeated in district and plays it's last game today against Kirbyville (5pm).
20. The score for HF 7th A team against HJ was 51-25 I believe. This HF 7th A team is one to watch. They really have it together. Hopefully they can keep it together through high school. The only game they've lost was their very first game(non-district) against St. Anne's and it was lost on a last second shot (great shot) from half court by a St. Anne player. HF vs St. Anne lost by 2 37-35 HF vs WOS 46-16 HF vs HJ 51-25 HF vs Silsbee 52-12 The players on this 7th grade A team is made up of some of the 7th grade A team who was District Co-Champs (with WOS) this football season. The HF point guard was also the HF quaterback Dante Smith.
21. See correction to my post HF 7th is now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in district and Bridge City is on our list.
22. Coop, Check out the standings and scores for HF 7th grade-- Now 3-1 overall 2-1 in district (corrected) HF vs EC - game not played due to Humberto HF vs St. Anne 14-0 - HF Won HF vs WOS 14-6 - HF Loss HF vs HJ 20-0 - HF Won HF vs Silsbee 6-0 HF Won on an interception by Starting Safety/Starting Quaterback/Kicker - Dante Smith When HF wins it's a shutout. 8) So far so good...this team looks really good offense and defense!
23. As usual no one considers HF Horns a threat. The current middle school teams will be ones to watch beginning now and in the future. With the addition of our youth football leagues, now in it's 4th year, the young guys will make their mark and start being a threat in the district.
24. Either way it will be a GREAT game and FUN! Remember it's supposed to be FUN. I have family and friends on both sides so GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS May the team who played the best WIN! Good luck and God Bless all players! This is it for: EC Seniors - Tramain Thomas and Brian Vigers (and all EC Seniors) HF Senior - Chris Smith (and all HF Seniors) Love you guys and may you continue to succeed in all you do in the future!
