Nope. I spoke to a UIL official a couple of years ago at state basketball tourney. That is not happening.

I understand. The realignment may change things but a school has to decide to opt up before the realignment. I just don't see with Splendora and Bridge City moving up, that there is much difference in the scheduling that would help those two schools. Also, Shepherd will be moving up to 4A DII and will likely replace BC in this football district but will likely be in the basketball, baseball district with Huffman, Livingston, HJ and the rest like they were before they moved down a few years ago. But, until UIL changes how a school can opt up, it's there for the taking.

Only Huffman and Livingston would be in that football district if they chose to opt up. Splendora is going 5A and Hamshire-Fannett is in the 4A DII football district with those two teams. If they stay in the same other sports districts in this next realignment, they wouldn't be with Bridge City, LC-M, Lumberton and Vidor. They would still have to schedule different middle schools and sub varsity for other sports.

Makes sense

I'm old school and I like just two teams going to playoffs. But, I'm good with 4 teams as long as every district has a minimum 7-8 teams. I don't like 4 teams going out of a district that has just 4-6 teams in it. A team should be required to win more district games than they lose or at least be .500 to get a playoff spot. I have seen some playoff teams only win one district game and actually seen a team go without winning a district game because they were in a district with just 4 teams. I could care less what a teams overall record is because non-district games don't factor in and some teams schedule harder than others in non district. But IMO, a team should have at minimum a .500 record in district play to qualify.

In 77 Silsbee made it to state semifinals and lost to Dickinson 12-0. Dickinson then beat Brownwood in state championship game 45-20.
