Score by quarters 1 2 3 4 tot Spurger 17 15 14 10 56 Goodrich 8 16 14 16 54 FT shooting Spurger 7-10 70% Goodrich 7-14 50% 3 point shooting Spurger 5/11 45% Goodrich 3/13 23% Rebounds Spurger 33 Goodrich 31 Turnovers Spurger 27 Goodrich 22 Individual scoring Spurger George Whittaker 22 (14 rebounds) Shain Rawls 15 ( 10 in 1st quarter) Forrest Anderson 7 Chase McGallion 4 (9 assists) Jarom Odom 3 (game winning three) Luke McLeod 3 Christian Norsworthy 2 Goodrich Lavonte Brown 25 Gary Randolph 9 Ray Fisher 7 Travion Henderson 5 Kaleb Lewis 4 Tucker George 3 Shaquille Rains 1 Spurger dominated the first quarter and for the most part, the first half. Spurger got their biggest lead at 30-14 with 4 minutes left in the 2nd but Goodrich behind the play of Brown went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead down to 6, 30-24. Half ended with Spurger leading 32-24. The 3rd quarter started off just like the 1st as Spurger kept going inside to their big man Whittaker, who Goodrich had no answer for tonight. Whittaker pounded the smaller Hornets inside but it could have been worse. Whittaker missed several shots from point blank range or this would have never came down to the wire. Goodrich continued to up the pressure on the Pirated, forcing them to turn it over at a rapid rate. Brown started to penetrate and get some baskets to fall, chopping the lead all the way down to 1, 53-52. Finally Goodrich took their first and only lead with 40 seconds left on a steal and layup by Lewis. Spurger then turned it over again and was forced to foul with 9 seconds remaining. Randolph went to the line for a 1 and 1 and missed the frontend. Spurger rebounded, McGallion pushed it up quickly and found Odom in the right corner, who heaved up the 3, draining it with no time left on the clock. Spurger wins in dramatic fashion but they clearly out played Goodrich and it never should have come down to a last second shot. This forces a 4 way tie and we will wait to see how it is played out. SETXsports hopes to be there, wherever it is, to bring you these exciting games. Glad I decided to do this game. It was well worth it!! (see Spurger fans, I am not a jinx after all ;D)

Anyone know anything about Sealy?
"The only thing is we're hoping the McNeese game won't be our last one. One of our team goals is to make the playoffs in our first year of eligibility." Only way to do that is winning the league title, Ray. Your OOC schedule is brutal with two quasi-FBS programs (USA, TXST) and two sub-Div I foes (Langston, UIW). Doubt you get seven Div I wins with it...
So, are you saying he is not allowed to have a team goal of making the playoffs?

Crosby have 4 losses. the next 3 playoff teams in 19-4a have 4 losses. How does Crosby look in the head to head matchups? Now in our district, I believe the seedings have been established. 1. Nederland 2. Ozen 3. Central 4. PN-G
Actually, Crosby sits atop their district with a 10-3 record. The other three are at 9-4.
Yes, that's what I meant. So if Crosby loses the last district game and those other teams win, we could see a tie senerio? How would that work? Do any of the 20-4a know who their first round oponents are?
It could end in a 4 way tie, but I don't see Crosby losing to Barbers Hill in tonight's game.

21-3A DISTRICT CHAMPS--- SILSBEE TIGERS!!!!!!!
AggiesAreWe replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
All I know is Stafford swept them in district and they mostly play players of '5"9 to '6"2. Stafford does have a '6"8 soph. but was told he doesn't play alot of minutes. Navasota coach told me Sealy was big, but they would have lots of trouble with Silsbee's speed and depth. Navasota beat Sealy earlier in the season. -
Changed expectations? They have made the playoffs the past three years and went three rounds deep last year. What expecatations have changed?
I was going to say the same thing. Coach Newton did a jam up job last year. Jason will do very well there but it's still all about football and that will never change at WOS.
So Agg...how do you see it playing out with a Spurger Victory? How will a 4 way tie play out?
Good question. That's one of the reasons why I am going to do this game. I want to ask Coach Issacs and Coach King how they would play that out if it ends in a 4 way tie. Heard they may play a 4 game tiebreaker. Two games on Friday, winners play for #1 and #2 seed on Saturday, losers play for 3rd seed on Saturday. Or, all these games may be played on Saturday. Who knows? Now, how they determine who plays who on Friday is beyond me. Could be as simple as a coin flip.
I heard they may go to Goodrich and play a couple of teams maybe?
I was told tonight that ain't happening. Evadale is waiting on a call back from one of the local 2A's. If that doesn't happen, look for Evadale NOT to play a warm up.

Just a little info on the 1st game played between these two in district. Goodrich won 53-46 @ Spurger. Game was tied at 35 at the end of 3rd. Goodrich Jr. guard Gary Randolph scored 32 of Goodrich's 53 points, shooting 6 of 9 from 3 point line and 6-6 from FT line. Spurger was led by Sr. post George Whittaker, who scored 21 points and yanked down 12 rebounds. Spurger out rebounded Goodrich 34-27 and forced 17 turnovers by the Hornets while only committing 9 themselves. Spurger struggled from the 3 point line and free throw line as they went 2 of 15 from 3 point and 5-12 from FT. If Spurger can contain Randolph and shoot the ball better from the 3 point line and free throw line, then the Pirates have a very good chance of getting a win.
Isn't there still a game left?
Yes, officially, East Chambers has not won an outright district title. They still have to beat Hardin tomorrow night to claim that title. A loss coupled with a Kountze win would have them sharing the title with Kountze. -
It's the last night of regular season district play and SETXsports has the only game with a spot in the playoffs still up in the air as the #7 Spurger Pirates take on the #10 Goodrich Hornets in what is a must win for Spurger to give them a shot at the playoffs. The Pirates (20-11, 8-3) come off a win over High Island, 100-47, while Goodrich (13-13, 9-2) fell to Burkeville, 64-51, which puts this 24-1A DII district in a bit of a mess. If Spurger wins, it will most likely create a 4 way tie between Spurger, Goodrich, Burkeville and Leggett. If Goodrich wins, the playoff spots are solidified with Goodrich winning district, Burkeville runner up, and Leggett third. Spurger would be eliminated. Goodrich defeated Spurger earlier in distict play, 53-46. Broadcast time in Goodrich will be 10 minutes prior to tip which is scheduled for 6pm. Click the link to listen to THE game of the night, the only game with a playoff spot on the line!!! SPURGER vs. GOODRICH, LIVE TONIGHT here at SETXsports.com!!! [Hidden Content]

Jasper vs. Diboll Game Thread/Jasper wins/Comments
AggiesAreWe replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If Center wins, Jasper and Hudson would have the option of either flipping for the #2 seed or playing it off. If Hudson wins, then Jasper is the #2 seed by virtue of their sweep of Center.
