3. I saw this kid play in the Silsbee summer tourney. He's a good one. Wish he was at Silsbee. ;)
Nope and I would be scratching that particular officiating crew from my future games. ;) I still like man defense. ;D BTW, I can still come out in the 2nd half in man because of my deep bench. ;) ;D
This should help your reading skills. ;D
When did I say that I would never switch out of the man defense? Nash, your reading comprehension skills are sliding a bit. If you go back to the very first comment I posted after you gave me the scenario of being down by 15, players in foul trouble, yada yada yada, I did say "nope" and then followed with a statement that I "could" not "would" come out in the 2nd half in man because of my deep bench. Comprende'? ;D

 8.
If you are that deep, I predict an undefeated season for you.  I was foolishly thinking that if your best players couldnt get it done in man to man, it might be reasonable to assume that their replacements would not be able to overcome a 15 point deficit.  But, then again, maybe you employ the Celtic theory where the next sub is better than the starter he replaced except that, in this case, the next three were the superior players.
Yep, you can predict and be foolish. ;D

 13. Stats from last night's scrimmage: Hamshire-Fannett  1st team offense 25 plays rushing    13/ 45yards passing  4-12  52 yards total        25/ 97 yards 1st Downs    5 TO              1 (fumble) TD's            0 HF 2nd team off.      10 plays rushing    7/ 52 yards passing  2-3  18 yards total    10/ 70 yards 1st downs    4 TO              0 TD's            0 Deweyville 1st team offense 25 plays rushing  19/ 48 yards passing  1-6  6 yards total      25/ 54 yards 1st downs    4 TO              1 (interception) TD's            0 Dewey 2nd team off. 10 plays rushing    9/  10 yards passing    0-1  0 yards total        10/ 10 yards 1st downs    1 TO              0 TD's            0 Combined totals HF    35 plays rushing  20/ 97 yards passing  6-15  70 yards total      35/ 167 yards 1st Downs      9 TO                1 TD's              0 Deweyville      35 plays rushing      28/ 58 yards passing    1-7  6 yards total        35/ 64 yards 1st Downs      5 TO                  1 TD's                0 Numbers:  Hamshire-Fannett suited out 33 on varsity, Deweyville suited out 20 The most impressive thing I saw last night was whenever the Deweyville defense had their backs against the wall, they got tougher and played very good defense. HF moved the ball well early on, with the 1st team off. getting inside the 15 once but could not score. Same with the 2nd team as they had a 1st and goal from the 9 but failed to score on 4 plays. I really thought that HF would be able to at least score 1 or 2 TD's against the much smaller Deweyville team, but credit to the Pirates for playing well when they had to. Deweyville was very, very, very vanilla on offense and never really was able to break anything open against the Longhorn defense. HF was just had too much speed and athleticism on defense and was able to contain and cover. Deweyville had an opportunity in that last series where they were able to reach the HF 25 yard line (after getting a personal foul penalty against HF, a few late hits tonight, lot's of mouthing going on for a first scrimmage), but the Pirates managed 0 yards after. I think overall, Deweyville can come away feeling pretty good about their defense getting the shutout, giving up some yards but keeping the Longhorns out of the endzone, which is the goal of every defense. As for HF, I have to say that with what I saw on offense and the athletes they had at the skill positions, I was disappointed that they could not score on a smaller and slower Pirate defense. They will have to get better because the Horns will see much, much better defenses during the season. The HF defense looked okay, but Deweyville's offense really didn't offer much to gauge against. Both teams have a lot to work on, which is to expect after just one scrimmage. Side note:  I was really taken aback to how many coaches HF had last night. 17!!!! Deweyville had only 5!!  ;D
 14.
Actually, I got it from a very good source within the HDISD that the scrimmage is still on Thursday, but that the time is 7:00 p.m.
Even if it is at that time, I still will not be able to make it. I will be at the Silsbee @ LCM scrimmage at 5pm, then stop by the WOS @ Vidor scrimmage at 7pm. Really wished it would have stayed at the 10am time.
 15. Too bad that this scrimmage was moved to Friday night. Had it stayed in it's original date and time, Thurs. at 10am, I would have been able to make this scrimmage. Oh well, maybe next time.
 16. I too have seen The Woodlands Christian play the last couple of years. If they are indeed "recruiting", they need to fire their recruiter. ;)
 17. I will be attending this scrimmage. Will update (actually call Grad and let him post ;D)
 18.
How did the former band player for Silsbee look? If they can run behind him, that would be some big run plays.
BIG!!!! He is second team RT. Biggest player on the field for either team. '6"6 290lb
 19. This is a definite embarrassment to himself and the community.
 20.
Did the two transfers play and if so how did they look?
The PA Memorial transfer started at defensive end, looked good till he tweeked his knee. He will be a good one for the Tigers. Injury is just minor, should be back for week 0. Turns out, there is no New Orleans transfer. ???
 21. Silsbee senior inside linebacker and 4 year starter Jacob Keefer will lay the wood to ya! He had the best hit today in their scrimmage with Kirbyville.
 22. A little more breakdown of the stats: Kirbyville rushing    34/ 15 yards passing   3-16  30 yards Silsbee rushing   30/  108 yards passing  11-20  290 yards   4 TD's I think it's safe to say (although I expect to see some scrutiny on these comments ::)) that Silsbee dominated this scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The Tiger 1st team defense looked the best out of all the groups (both teams 1st & 2nd off. and def.). The Tigers disrupted several plays with their senior linebackers penetrating the line, getting some sacks and tackles for loss. They just didn't allow Kirbyville get into any kind of a rhythm. Silsbee's offense was a big play offense as all 4 TD's came via the pass and all were 50 yards or better. Silsbee run game looked descent at times, but missed a few opportunities (missed some holes). Silsbee looked very good for a first scrimmage. Kirbyville struggled. They could not get the run game going and their pass game was never established. The Wildcat O-line just had a hard time keeping the Tiger defenders out of the backfield. The Wildcat defense did well against the run, but the secondary gave up too many big plays. It is definitely their weak point. I believe Kirbyville will get it together by season's end, but they will struggle early on. By the numbers: Kirbyville suited out 27 on varsity, Silsbee had 40  suited out. Tigers had 3 soph, start on offense (QB, RB and RT) and 2 on defense (NG and LB)
 23.

how did the scrimmage go
It is tonight at 7:00.
Is this true about the scrimmage being tonight at 7pm? Is it still in Deweyville?
 24. I'll be at Tiger Stadium this morning taking in this controlled scrimmage. I will either post or phone in updates to Grad as the scrimmage progress. note (I'll make a point to only comment positively about Kirbyville and negatively about Silsbee, to please the few) ::)
 25.
For what it's worth, when I was a head coach at NHS and this stuff was being discussed, Coach Neumann asked me if I would like my athletic period to be double blocked. I said, "Yes, definitely." He responded by saying, "I'm glad you said that because any coach who doesn't want to see his kids every day probably isn't a very good coach." Any time I had a conversation with Coach Neumann about a change in policy or a break in a precident, he would always say, "If we do it for one, then we have to do it for all." I'm not saying that he is/was for or against the double blocking of basketball (or whatever other sport), but if he is/was not fully on board with it, ask yourself, "Why not?" If you think he actually wants to see another sport fail, then you just might have a tin foil hat or something. I certainly would not want to be the AD who had to deal with the logistics of having essentially all sports meeting 1st or last period. That's all sports sharing the showers, locker room, weight room, gym, and fields. Rainy days would not be fun. You wanna see a fight?! Ask a cheerleader sponsor to get out of the gym because you have a game tomorrow! She's like a honey badger. She doesn't give a flip. They have a competition that weekend and that's all that matters! Another point to consider: If you are taking these coaches and their assistants out of the classroom for an additional athletic period, then you are burdening the rest of the teachers who do not coach on that campus. Who will take on that extra academic course load? Again, I'm just offering what (little) I know of this subject in my nine years at NHS. Also, just for fun, replace "Nederland High School" with just about any school in Texas, and replace "basketball" with any sport other than football, and nothing will change. Every sport other than football in every town in Texas gets no respect. If you don't like it, move to Kentucky. They SUCK at football, and no one cares. I gotta go. The aliens have hidden my tin foil hat again.
Good post.
