That is exactly what happened.
Delusional? Really? Where you there? If anyone is delusional its you and your opinion that Neumann is envious of English and wishes to sabotage his success. What a joke.
I find that very hard to believe myself. -
Less than 24 hrs of being home and.....
Home gets broken into while I'm visiting family. They ransacked the place and only took a 19 inch flat screen. No money, no video game system, no CDs or DVDs, no clothes or shoes.
But that's all I asked them to take, just to send a message. ;) -

Wasn't Sigler the coach back in '95 when Silsbee was ranked #1 and undefeated alll season long, then lost in the first round of the playoffs?
Yes
Yes, Sigler was the coach in '95 (had been the head coach since 1986, ended in 2003). But the year you are speaking of was '98, not '95. Silsbee was 31-0, #1 in class 4A, and was up to #14 in the USA Today national poll, then lost in the second round (Silsbee had a bye in first round) to Chapel Hill.

Sigler returns as Silsbee boys basketball coach
IMO Silsbee changed their mind on hiring Mackay because they caught so much heat over it. A week ago Sigler was left out and had no chance, he got hired because Silsbee had to hire a proven coach or the community would have gone ape stuff!!!!!
Sorta true. First of all, they wouldn't be "hiring" Mackey (he already works for the district ;)), just appointing him as interim head coach. Second, the decision was delayed because of what you stated, the board (and folks in the community) wanted a head basketball coach, not interim. The reason Sigler was at first a no go was because he did not want to have to coach football and that was how the position was opened. The board had that responsibility dropped, which then put him (and others) into play. -
Nederland AD hires new basketball assistant coach

With the situation being that NISD needed a coach and a science teacher, it is obvious that the emphasis was on getting a coach that was certified in teaching science. No brainer. -
Enlighten me, cause truly I do not understand. A previous poster said Neumann had to hire this coach while fitting it all together like a puzzle. Why should Neumann have to worry whether this assistant coach teaches math, science, or any other subject. Did neuman hire this guy as a science teacher?....or was he told by administration that he could hire anyone he wanted BUT they also had to be a science teacher?
I believe that to be the case. -
Ok, I know probably for a fact that only one person in this post has played any college sports, and also probably the only person that actually got into the game and excelled in high school. If yall knew anything about "developing" kids yall would know that English doesn't need help teaching kids to play at the high school level, as he has shown with his past assistants and success. Coach Smith is very qualified to fill the position and to help out English. But for the development of the "future" of Nederland basketball, yall should want Smith as the head coach at the Middle School level to develop the kids and not taking the Assistant job at the high school where English can control that program. (Also, his son will be in 7th grade next year). Before we make this kind of topic its own feed, we need to understand and point out how many kids in the past 10-20-30 years have actually graduated from Nederland and went on to play college basketball. I think yall need to get a new hobby.
You would be wrong on that fact. ;) -

Nederland AD hires new basketball assistant coach

It was my understanding that the folks on here were wanting the middle school coach moved to the high school to be an assistant. It was stated very clear in the first post of the author of this thread. It was also sent to me in a private message. ;) -
after Christmas in east texas or south eastex area?
See Catman. ::)

I believe Mr. Mosley has spoken the truth here. A science teacher was in need therefore Coach Walker was the most qualified due to his certification. The middle school coach that you folks wanted moved up is not certified in that teaching field. Pretty simple hire if you ask me. Just like Mr. Mosley stated, in these times, districts need to hire assistant coaches based on their teaching certificates more so than what sport they are most experienced in. This situation is also reaching the head coaching status as well. -
Texas Invitational in Pasadena it the best. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Isn't that tourney before Christmas? I believe the poster was asking about tourneys after Christmas.

Sigler left a very loaded Clarksville team. Clarksville will be preseason top 2 or 3 in TABC and the odds on favorite to go to Austin. They shouldve been in Austin this past year, had it not been for the huge shocker Tenaha pulled off in the regional finals. I watched the game and was very impressed with Clarksville, who has 3A/4A athletes like the Cayuga teams of recent years. Silsbee is a great job no doubt, I just wonder why he left such a good situation in the first place...
Pretty simple, 1A job (Clarksville) to 3A job (Silsbee) means more $$$. Sigler wanting higher salary for those last few years of his employment to reflect on his retirement. I think this will not be a very long term for Sigler. I expect it to be no more than 4-5 years. Just my opinion.
All 3a coaches do not make more money than 1A coaches.
Never said all 3A made more than all 1A. Just that this particular 3A made more than that particular 1A. ;)
Thats just my opinion. Aggie, IMO I think the BEST Silsbee team when you talk about the starting 5 was the 1994/95 team. All of this is opinion based comments on both sides. You have seen more ball than me in the last 11 years. When I look at the end of season results, the only teams that could compare would be the 09/10 team and maybe the 06/07 team that lost to HJ in the Reginoal. Those 90's teams use to be bigger, stronger, and played with a fearless swag.
And I have seen more ball than you in the '80's and '90's as well. That's my point. I saw those Silsbee teams of the 90's, they were very good. But other than that '98 team, there are several of the 2000's teams that can compete with the rest of those '90's teams. BTW, some would say the '79 team was as good as any team that Silsbee has put on the floor. ;)

Silsbee gets transfer from PA Memorial
AggiesAreWe replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This is now common in that kids transfer high schools like kids transfer colleges. I thought that there was some UIL rules about this but it probably doesn't matter much anymore. Hard to enforce. The future could see HS kids being offered under the table money from a wealthy metro district booster club to transfer. Hey, it is not out of the realm of possibility in the world we live in. JMHO!
I totally understand what you are saying. It's happening everywhere. But, in this particular case, athletics was the last reason for this transfer and I'll leave it at that. -
What does this mean for Ira now
Yea I thought the same thing. He would be at a great age to retire. I read where he said he just couldn't stay away when he semi retired the 1st time. I will tell you, he has one heck of a coaching staff. With the 2 new kids in town, I fully expect Silsbee to make a deep run in the playoffs. I have them placing second in district and getting back to the Regionals. I guess Joe is going to teach History once again?
Nope. Physical Ed teacher. -
Central? Central was 5A for the longest. Besides one or two seasons I don't recall Central ever losing to the same team or making a deep run. Take HJ for instance. What did they do in 4A? If that same team had stayed in 3A was , they may have done better. There is no way Silsbee has the same talent that it use to be. There have been teams that have had 3-4 All State players alone. There isn't one team from the 00's that could hang with a Silsbee team from the 90's or 80's. Com"on son! There have been a few Tiger teams that went to state but those 90's teams that played against all of the top 4A and 5A teams across the state were cold as ice!
Santa, you are totally wrong on this one. I think it's safe to say that I have watched more Silsbee basketball in my lifetime than you have, and I know of a few Tiger teams in the 2000's that could play with those in the 80's and 90's. THAT'S A FACT!!!
