Beaumont Ozen 49 Nederland 35/FINAL
AggiesAreWe replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Uh, Memorial and Central. Like I said, I picked Ozen to make playoffs, finishing 3rd, before season started. Watching them play a few games, particularly those two games at Gamble, led me to make that statement that this MAY be the first Ozen team to miss playoffs if they continued to play like they were. IMO, this version of Ozen, particularly after loosing Jones for the season, is the only Ozen team that one could relatively make that comment. No other team in their history you could say that about. -
Beaumont Ozen 49 Nederland 35/FINAL
AggiesAreWe replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
After watching Ozen lose to Silsbee and then lose their first two games at the James Gamble tourney, one of which was to Scarborough, my opinion and others there with me thought this was one of the weaker Ozen teams in recent memory. Panthers were having issues putting the ball in the hoop. But something changed during the Gamble tourney. Their next two games was a close loss to a very good 6A Dickinson and a good win over a good 6A Channelview. Couple that with two solid district wins over PN-G and Nederland and it looks a though Ozen has come out of their fog and is playing much better basketball of late. I knew their defense would be ok but now it looks as though they are getting enough offense to win games. I made a comment at the press table at the Gamble that this version of Ozen basketball may be the first to miss the playoffs. I still was picking them to make playoffs but things needed to get better. Looks as though they have. -
and I believe someone out of 22-2A (Tenaha, San Augustine, Shelbyville, Woden) has a good shot.

Score by quarters 1 2 3 4 tot Woodville 19 12 7 11 49 Newton 16 20 18 16 70 I attended this game because I wanted to see this Newton team. Glad I did. Starters for each team: Woodville: #5 Martin, #12 C. Williams, #14 Brooks, #15 Beatty, #23 Adams Newton: #5 Josh Foster, #10 Noah Williams, #20 Tamauzia Brown, #23 Corbin Foster, #24 J. Sylvester Woodville came out shooting the three ball very well, led by their best player Christian Williams. He knocked down 3 early three's in first Q. Newton could not buy a three as Brown was 0-5 in first quarter and a half. Newton did get a lot of 2nd chance points from crashing the boards and just out hustling Woodville for loose balls. 2nd quarter Newton was able to get some turnovers and fast break points to get the halftime lead. 3rd quarter was the difference in the game. Newton extended their defense out to shut down the 3 point line and dominated the glass, not giving Woodville any chance of offensive rebounds. Brown finally hit a couple of three's which helped open the offense up. Newton's stellar defense also led to their transition offense, getting more fast break opportunities. The 4th Q was basically the same. Newton cruised to this solid district win. Woodville's Christian Williams was the best pure basketball player on the floor and the best shooter as well. #5 Martin played well. He plays much bigger than his '5"10 body. Newton's Josh Foster was their leader last night. He really played well and controlled things from his PG position. Brown definitely had an off night shooting, going just 2-10 from 3 land. Corbin Foster is another who plays much bigger than his size. He was surprisingly good offensively. Not what you might expect from an all state middle linebacker. The big man Sylvester is a game changer for Newton. He controlled the paint all night, getting 7 block shots with 13 rebounds. The sophomore's ability to defend the rim gives the rest of his teammates chances to be aggressive and gamble on defense and create turnovers. Newton's overall length caused havoc last night. If the shooting improves for Newton, their length and overall athletic ability on defense will make them a very, very dangerous team in the playoffs. Also the combination of Head Coach Jeff Parks and Assistant Marcus Carver make this team so much better. They will be a tough out. Newton will be shooting up my rankings.

I agree. and 22-2A is one of the toughest in 2A. Tenaha, Shelbyville, San Augustine and Woden. -
Who will be the QB for PN-G next year?
AggiesAreWe replied to aki1994's topic in High School Football
I guess I am confused. Roschon can still play next fall and graduate in December 2018. Are you suggesting he is trying to graduate right now? If so, no way he has enough credits halfway thru junior year. -

To clarify my "Yates wins by 30" comments, it seems some have taken it literally. No way in hell do I actually think Yates will beat Silsbee by 30. It's sarcasm. Some on here get it, others did not. My apologies. I guess I need to insert the "roll eyes" when I make those kind of comments. My bad. I truly believe Silsbee is still the favorite to win Region III and beat Yates. -

Mamba and I had this convo at the Gamble a few days ago. We both agreed that the biggest difference in summer ball and high school ball is that in summer ball, the player does all it can to prepare himself for the next level. High school ball is all about helping your team be successful. Which means you play whatever position or role that helps the team win. In summer ball, the player will play the position or role that fits him best to prepare for the next level. I agree, there is nothing like playing for your school and community. Like Mamba stated, it's apples and oranges. Oh, and aau is the devil. -

Too many "if's" to overcome. Yates wins easily. They are the prohibitive favorite to win Region III. They have proven it all season long. -
Misuse of space bar and '. You're welcome.

Brazosport only had 3 seniors last year with Rosso being the main player. Ortiz was the only other senior who played, he was a starter. Brazosport returns 3 starters along with 4 others who played significant minutes in championship game.

The center was just a junior. He is back.

Like I said, Yates by 30 -
Just shows how unbelievably talented last years Silsbee team was. The previous 5 players mentioned along with 3 players (D. McCain, Adams, Bush) who are likely to play basketball at next level and Barnes who just signed with Baylor for football/track along with Landyn Tyler who I think will end up playing college ball, then that's 10 players on last year's team that are/will play at next level. You won't find many teams, let alone a 4A team, with that kind of talent. Last year's team was definitely loaded.
