  1. Like I said judging a rivalry all depends on where you are from and who your rival was. We had to start giving a trophy out because we were the same way! Only we often had to sit down at the dinner table with the same guy whose head you were trying to knock off the night before because he was your cousin! WS/Hemphill is a rivalry, but San Augustine/Hemphill is the Hatfields and the McCoys, cause they absolutely can't stand one another!
  2. The best team(s) I ever personally saw were the 2002 (I think) Burkeville team(the last time they won state) and the 2003 West Sabine squad which made the semis (the deepest playoff run that we have ever had to this day). I know if there is any Hemphillians on here I do remember that, yes, you did beat us that year, but that was the last loss until the Celeste game. Had unbelieveable athletes who all bought in to the TEAM concept.
  3. The WS/Hemphill game isn't dubbed "The Sabine County Super Bowl" for nothing(it's also known as the Pine Cone Bowl)! It's similar to HD/WH I guess, mainly because I've never been to an HD/WH game. It says our stadium in Pineland can hold 1,000 people, and at last years game there were people having to stand on the track surrounding the field. There was easily 2,000 people there, and while it may not compare to larger school's rivalries there may be more people per capita at one these games than at larger schools. Does the HD/WH game have a trophy like ours does (a silver pine cone sits atop it!)? Just curious.............
  4. In my opinion, experience should trump youth, simply because the older player should be able to  run the offense smoother. But I have no inkling on who's who. Ya'll dont throw the ball that much, goin on the stats I read in the Enterprise last year, so arm strength shouldn't be too much of an issue. That being said, whoever comes outta practice with a better grasp of the offense should start.
  5. Didn't they have the 5A,4A, and 3A championship games there last year? The larger classifications should be used to going to these large venues, but for the little guys in 2A and 1A it's the chance of a lifetime. Most of these smaller schools more than likely wouldn't be able to afford to play there otherwise, so it's a great opportunity for the schools lucky enough to get there(can see every one of them getting wide eyed like the scene in Hoosiers when they reach the championship game). I agree, however, that greed did play a role in this. Guess Jerr-ah needed some bath oil beads for his private jet's hot tub or something..........
But that being said, I hope my team gets there for I will get to be on the sidelines reporting for our county paper!!!!!!!! GET 'EM TIGERS!!!!!!!!!
  6. How come there ain't no love for the 1A's on here? LOL
District 11-1A should be uber-competitive with West Sabine winning out(according to Dave Campbell, not bein a homer here!), Lovelady 2nd and H-D 3rd. But remember, this is all preseason and games aren't won in the preseason. I would hate to be goin up against that o-line West Sabine has, however. They lost a few to graduation but they're replacing them with some monsters off last year's 9-0 JV squad. Any time you are a 1-A school and you have a 6ft. 5in. 308 lb. kid at tackle you have an advantage. Think the center is either 220 or 230lbs. as well. The whole district has numerous starters returning( WS-11{6 Off./ 5 Def.}, Lovelady 13 {7 Off./ 6 Def.}, WH 13 {7 Off/6 Def}, H-D 8{ 4 on each side}, and Colmesneil 14 {9 Off./5 Def.}). Should be a fun district!!!!!
  7. This district will wide open once again this year. Lovelady is favored as usual, but West Sabine has a hungry jv squad (that was 8-0 last year as freshmen) moving up to the varsity ranks, and their o-line will be massive once again, anchored by seniors Worrell and Hershberger. With this year's departing seniors there will be holes to fill, but there will be speed, speed, and more speed in the backfield. I think the same three teams that made it last year will repeat, only with West Sabine winning the district, behind their experienced o and d-lines. But what do I know? There's only like 2 1/2 months to week zero........
  8. There are several that stick out in my mind. The first one was when West Sabine fell to Celeste in the '02 state semis. We had the far better team that year and that was our first bad game all year that year. The next one that comes to mind was the '03 game against Shiner when we were #1 in 1A and got blasted 49-7 at Katy. Was a cold, lonely night on both occasions. We got bumped up to 2A in '04 and went 4-6 with the 6 losses by a combined 36 points! That was a season full of heartbreakers!
