  1. How about some props for Coach Jeff Parks at West Sabine? I can remember just a short while ago that boys basketball at West Sabine was merely an afterthought, something the athletes did to keep in shape between football and baseball seasons. The gym would be empty save for parents and coaches, and now each game is packed to the rafters! He and his staff are closing in on the school's fifth straight district title this year, by the way! Just thought I'd throw that out there........
  2. This was the worst officiated game I have ever seen! And NO I'm not saying that because we lost! For example: Colmesneil's guard dribbles down the court, with the ref between her and the West Sabine defender. The Colmesneil girl stumbles over her own feet and falls in front of the ref, (all the while the West Sabine defender is still BEHIND the ref, mind you) who then spins around (yes, that's right. Spins AROUND)and calls the West Sabine defender for a push in the back. The only one who could've been pushed in the back was the ref! This was the most egregious call of many that night.
  3. I am still curious at how a girl from team A can dribble down the court, have the defender from team B five feet away from her, trip over her own two feet, and, somehow, the defender from team B gets called for a push in the back! The official was in between the the 2 girls at the time, and the only one that could've been pushed in the back was the official himself(he had to turn around to point at the defender and call the foul)! This call happened in the varsity girls game between Colmesneil and West Sabine last Friday night. ???
  4. ETBB, the game was played in Broaddus. First off, Broaddus called a timeout they didn't have to begin with. Then there was an inbounds play at the end of the game that a section of fans well, lets just say STRONGLY disagreed with. As I walked out the gym there was a crowd and it was an uneasy atmsophere. You know, the kind right before a fight? Don't know if one went down I just got outta there. In response to stinger, I agree this game was indeed a wake-up call. Both teams did play lockdown defense(don't think either team shot over 40%.), we hit 11 out of 18 free throws, and they struggled from the line. But we can't shoot 19/55 and expect to win in the playoffs. I am sure that will be a point of emphasis at practice this week.
  5. That was one of the best games I have ever seen. Broaddus has a great squad and will be a force in the playoffs. That being said, however, West Sabine showed the true mettle of a champion tonight. Was a shame someone had to lose tonight! Easily the small-school game of the week in East Texas. As for the incident after the game, to all Broaddus fans, you were out of timeouts to begin with( I won't repeat what you all said on here. Let's just say it is often found in a pasture) BEFORE the out-of-bounds call!
  6. I just watched possibly the worst-officiated game since the 1994 NFC championship game tonight in Colmesneil. There was no flow to the game! There were 85 are so free throws between both teams (the Lady Tigers and Lady Bulldogs). Colmesneil had only 7 field goals for the game yet they scored 40 points! The call that stands out in my mind is one where the Colmesneil player stumbled over her own feet and the referee( who was staring right at the play) called a 5th foul on our guard when she was at least 5 feet away from her!
  7. Being a fan I can see their point about some referees deciding games. But being an ex-umpire myself I also can see it from the official's side of things. The action happens so quickly and you are going to miss a few calls here and there. They are only human, believe it or not. Before I slide completely into their camp, however, I have heard that during playoff football games between teams with vastly different records(say a 5-6 team going up against a 10-0 district champion) that more weight is often given to the team who is the one who is "supposed" to win. Officials should strive to make themselves blend into the background and not make themselves part of the game. 75% of the officiating is called straight down the line. If you are having a bad game, be equally bad to both sides!
  8. Going to extend an olive branch here to anyone who may read this. I don't pretend to know what goes on down there (being out of high school 15 years I lose track with EVERYTHING on this level), but I hope things improve in Brookeland. No matter where the kids play, the fact is that they need a place to play! We need to remember that these are just kids playing a game and we are the adults talking about it.
  9. These kids are all so physically gifted these days , so they can play just about every position on the floor from the point to the paint. The true point guard (assist first, score second) has gone the way of the mid-range jumper. That being said, does anyone have any suggestions for the best PG in the East Texas region?
