When a fan says, "We won."  You're not on the team, so you didn't win anything. And in high school football, how good you are is a lot of luck.  No one determines how talented or athletic the people who go to their school are.  Coaches in high school teach work ethic and discipline, but you cannot teach quickness or agility.
Hate to rain on your parade, but me and a whole lot of other people pay a lot of money to build the stadium, build the school and pay for the uniforms and footballs, if we want to say "we won" then so be it. Try playing without us ;D
Agreed Dawgnut. Like yourself, I've been a loyal Pirate fan through thick and thin and I mean really thin sometimes, even helped coached the soccer team in the 90's. Thousands of dollars in school taxes, a lot of heartache plus being a graduate of the school makes it "WE"!

Leadership qualities. Clutch. And to think this is his first year playing QB. I mean playing every single down in defense and all but one drive on offense in the Ozen game and yet having the clutch and stamina to do a game winning drive in the final seconds. That's saying something there. Yes he doesn't have the stats that most of the other QB's do but most of the other QB's don't command a run heavy offense. And yet even still with a run heave offense he is still on the top 10 in the district in passing yards. IMO that says enough right there.
May be MVP of SETX....
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Fans that think that the way they support there team is the only way to do it and anyone else who support there team in a different way is wrong and it drives them crazy and they don't like it and the other person gives the team a bad rep and they just need to be quiet and let it be. I think they just need to be a fan and let other people do what they do. Who cares what they talk about? Who cares what they say? If you don't like it then don't read there post and don't respond to there post. They are there to support there team. I mean that's what this forum is about right? They just happen to have a different way of supporting there team. If you don't like it then get over it.
Agreed!!! No quarter asked, none given!!!

Growing community over there. Nederlands success has always come from coaching and preparation, not blue chip athleticism. This year we have a lot of above average athletes added onto the great coaching staff and voila. It's not that I don't think we've been talented, but injuries can plague your season and really make it an uphill battle. Anyways, I think getting a good coach and hanging on to him is key. Neumann has a lifetime job as far as I'm concerned. On a side note, not sure why vidor fans on this board are so persnickety. You have a good season going and you will earn more respect if you let Friday nights do the talking about how great your team is. Just because YOU feel like the team isn't getting enough respect doesn't mean people should have to post something new every day about how awesome vidor is. Finish it now. Get to the playoffs and win a game or two. You want your defense to be compared to Nederlands? Ok well after you've played everybody in district (mainly PNG/LIV) then we will have a fair comparison. Goodluck to lumberton, vidor, and the rest of the district for this season and beyond. if you want a winning tradition, you have to start somewhere. One or two seasons of a winning record or playoff appearances don't get you there if things go back downhill shortly after.
Very good post. I remember in the late 90's Nederland couldn't get the respect they should have , but after a few years they did. I also agree about the coaching and talent. We are finally seeing an advantage as far as coaching. There is no way I could say talent alone, look at the kids continuing to the next level. Most do not come from PNG or Nederland. Although Nederland does have some talent for the next few years which , along with their good coaching could mean a deep run. Believe me other coaches are taking Vidor seriously , they have respect. It's just hard to get from local media from just a couple good seasons.
Now this is a good post!!! Look guys, we Pirates know respect is earned on the field. Especially those that played sports later on into their lives. I mean, we give you guys the sincerest form of flattery because we're trying to imitate you and become the viable, successful program that ned and png have. However, this is a smack talk and information forum. Long as it's clean and abides by the rules then so be it. True whiners are those that think we Vidorians should khow tow and be subservient because we haven't paid some sort of stupid rules on this board. Got new for you; Jeff Mathews is at a victory margin of 50% in his 13 years at Vidor and I believe that is somewhat better than Lumberton. Now, if there is some sort of qualification for posting on this celebrated board, I believe that qualifies us. If you want to talk about the 80's, you might as well be talking about Napoleon invading Russia.....

Isn't that what this board is about? You guys in mid-county take your shots, we take ours. As long as it's clean, it's just fun. Didn't know we were supposed to sing Cumbahyah and hug? I thought football was a tackle sport???
 6. I believe my Vidor Pirates can clinch if we win this week. The worse we could finish should we beat Central would be 4 - 3 in district and own the tie-breaker over Ozen and LCM.
 7.
facts are vidor has not played 2 of the better teams in the district-png & livingston.when u beat them & still have the best defense & make the playoffs u will have earned your respect u keep wanting on the messege board.
We never play anyone. And, so many teams beating down our door willing to play us in pre-district. Don't really care about respect from the pundits on this board. Just keep winning Pirates!

PNG stomped Ozen due to let down of losing the Vidor game, tough loss for those kids. Livingston is a question mark; they do well at home but poorly here in SE Tex. Vidor - Livingston game is at the Boneyard, it will be WILD in that stadium come game time. Lastly, let's all not forget Vidor's defense.....it is the main reason we are 6 - 1. LCM only scores 7 points if not for wholesale substitutions and Mathews dedication to not running up the score unlike some other area coach.
Typical vidorian response. Refs and huge let downs lead to PN-G wins.
No let down here. I expect Vidor to win; read anything I've written. There are no ifs and buts in my threads, friend.  Concerning the referees, prove me wrong. No ghost chop blocks, no holding penalties after you're 20 yards downfield, no more down at the three yard line when our player dives into the endzone. We love playing in mid-county; always fairly officiated. It's the reason you turned off your big screen replay in 2009. I would rather play at Lamar and get the officials from El Paso.
The replays have been stopped anytime there is a flag out of sportsmanship. There were  some calls that were made in BOTH favor of PNG and against PNG that were proven to be bad calls by replay. As far as 2009 , you don't want to go there. That game wasn't even close. We weren't supposed to win that one and it turned out we dominated. No bad calls even came close to affecting that game. I feel this year will be a good game. It could go either way , I wouldn't call either the team the favorite right now. I also don't feel it will affect the playoffs.I can possibly see a team with three losses in. Ozen has lost two and has a tough schedule left and any tie breaker Ozen would have with either PNG or Vidor would not favor Ozen.
Love pulling mid-County chains.....easy pickins. Lord willing, I will back in the U.S. come game time.....I know they get the refs from Houston district and Jeff has to agree to them....see ya'll at the Reservation.

As I mentioned, they are likely to lose at some point since only one team comes out of the playoffs undefeated, right? I think they will win 2-3 playoff games, depending on their draw. I wish Vidor the best, but I don't see them winning the state title this year. You can't win the big ones just running in this league.
Would someone please delete this mess.  It's uncalled for.
Every team except one loses in the playoffs each year. I don't see this comment as slanderous against another person, it's merely an opinion of what will possibly happen b/c Vidor rely's on the run so much.with that said, I have to agree. Not many one dimensional teams make it very far in the playoffs these days.

No you didn't insult mathews directly but you did insult his coaching/playing style. And that is against the rules. Plain and simple. And to all of yall saying you can't make it too far in the playoffs with a run heavy offense check your stats. Liberty Hill won two state championships back to back in 2006 and 2007 while running the Slot T offense.

I never said we would win state either and my comment wasn't directly meant towards you Abe. It was meant towards everyone that is saying Vidor's Slot T offense isn't good enough for the playoffs.
Hey mytwocents, this is just a case of jealousy breeds contempt. I really don't know why we even answer people who hate to see Vidor win regardless of the sport. One of the reasons I quit posting some years back was some of the crud I saw written on these boards about our hometown. Jeff Mathews is the best AD in the area, one hell of a coach, and we'll see just how far the slot-T and that defense takes us. I'm sorta enjoying the naysayers this time. By the way, I seem to recall Liberty Hill winning state in 2007 and 2008 using the same offense....

 18.
To me running up the score means that a team takes time outs or onside kicks or keeps going deep to score when they are way ahead. If you put in the second team and they move the ball and score then that means they are doing what they have been coached to do. You can not coach kids all week to do their best then on game night because you are ahead by 40 tell the guys in the game to go 50% speed. As long as you are not intentionaly trying to embarrass someone then it is not running up the score.
Agreed. If you're a head coach and stupid enough to leave your starters in with a comfortable lead, you deserve to lose one....even though I hate to see it happen to any child.
