They will definitely be tested early...It will be interesting to see how they do while replacing both starting RB's and several key players on D... Either way they should be well tested and ready once district play rolls around..

Wasn't surprised at all when I heard the news several weeks ago...He was making over 80k a year and Shepherd was horrible other than the year that his son was a senior and playing QB for them... Not sure what it would take for Shepherd to be a legitimate player in dist 22 3a...

Don't have any idea what the reason for the drop off is other than I personally believe they just lost  some really good players from last years squad to graduation...The Huffman team that I saw play about a week ago was nothing close to the squads that they ran out there the last couple of years... Looked to me that they have several key players playing different positions from last year....Last week they simply didn't make several routine plays that they would've made the last few years...It's possible that they just aren't as talented this year...You can have 2 top 400 players but not come together and execute as a team... I don't know what their HR numbers are as a team (this year) but they didn't look anything like the team that hit between 40-50 hr's last season...Now whether that has more to do with the new bats or just talent I'm not sure...I'm sure it's some of both but I also can't help but think it's more to do with the talent level right now because (outside of Listi who homered and got robbed of another extra base hit at the top of the wall) I really didn't see alot of hard hit balls during the game that I watched... I know I only watched the one game (and it's really hard and maybe not fair to make all these assumptions based on just that one game) but that's just my gut feeling on this years Huffman team...

Don't know if there was a flip involved or not...I'll have to ask about that...I do know however that the Coldspring head coach said he wanted the 1 game series (if you can call it that) if his team did indeed secure the 3rd and last district playoff spot... Don't really know much about Silsbee...I did sit next to their coaching staff about a week ago (when they came to Coldspring to watch the Trojans play and beat Huffman 7-2....Seemed like a nice bunch of guys... Should be a good game and I hope the Trojans come out with the win!

[/quote] I'm fairly sure he had them ranked in his top 5 last preseason...I can understand him not having them in his preseason top 10 this year... CS has to replace it's entire backfield as well as 3 of it's best defenders...There should be plenty of talent to step in but until they get on the field and actually do it it's anyone's guess as to how good they'll be... Due to their very tough pre-district games they'll have every opportunity to prove they belong in the elite of 3A...

If those number are correct Coldspring could potentially play LaMarque twice next year depending on what happens in the playoffs...3A DII definitely just got alot tougher....

Yes both signed this afternoon at a ceremony in the school auditorium and per Barbay he thinks a couple of others (Monroe & Andries) have a good shot of getting offers in the next few weeks... I've heard that one 4 year school (from out of state) may offer either one or both as earlier as the end of this week... Juco is also still a distinct possibility for both Monroe and Andries... There were several CS players from last years 2010 team that signed with in state juco programs later in the spring after all the dust settled.... Congrats to both Harrison and Gilbert on their signings!

They're game was way worse than the boys. lol [/quote] Yes, the behavior of the Coldspring girls (the 3 involved are siblings) was more than embarrassing and shouldn't have happened...There has been a coaching shake up due to the behavior exhibited the other night and hopefully the new coach can reel them in and keep it from happening again....Those three have been in altercations before... As bad as the on court behavior is from time to time what bothers me more than anything is the stuff that spills over to the parking lot, etc...No excuse for that type of stuff....I understand tempers flaring during a hard fought game but adults and students not involved in the actual game fighting after shouldn't be allowed and should be punished severely so as to send a message that it won't be tolerated...

Cleveland will have to find away to limit their turnovers and CS fast break points and layups if they plan on being competitive in the next matchup in Cleveland.... They didn't/don't seem capable of keeping CS guards (especially Sykes) from driving the lane time after time and getting easy looks at the basket.... Would like to go watch the rematch in Cleveland, however, after seeing a CS player get jumped by Cleveland fans in the parking lot I'm not sure I feel like having to deal with the same type of crap in Cleveland...I have no idea why anyone feels the need to fight before, during, or after a highschool athletic event... There ought to be some type of extra punishment for anyone prosecuted and convicted of assault and battery at any type of school event that is held on a campus (kind of like the extra trouble one gets in if arrested with drugs inside a school zone)....

Maybe not by Lagasse (sp?) looked like a really good player and Gilbert looks like a really good prospect...I'm sure they probably have a couple more but those are just 2 that stood out to me....

CS shot about 16 of 33 from the foul line...CS hits even a decent percentage from the foul line they win...As previously mentioned CS is not yet in basketball shape which more than likely accounted for the poor shooting from the line... Good win for Kountze....CS should be a solid club after they get a couple more weeks (of conditioning and practice) under their belt...They should be quite a bit better once Jan rolls around...
