1. Was also surprised but have watched enough playoff football over the years that I shouldn't have been. What I didn't expect was for Arp to control the game from start to finsh in the manner they did. Newton didn't seem to ever get much of any momemtum going on either side of the ball. Arp also seemed to be the faster team. They have a couple of RB's that can flat run.
2. TD Arp xtra point good 7-0 5:59 2nd qtr
3. ARP has already had 2 scores called back for holding
4. Final from Jasper TX Newton 30 Elysian Fields 20
5. EF pass incomplete on 4th down in endzome. Newton turns EF over on downs inside the 5 yd line. Less than 4 mins to go
6. TD Newton. Xtra point good. Newton up 30-20 6:57 4th
7. 36 yd field goal Newton. 23-20 10:27 4th qtr
8. TD EF Extra point no good. 20-20 3:45 3rd
9. TD Newton 2pt conversation no good. Newton 20 EF 14 8:25 3rd qtr
10. Underclassmen aren't the issue or problem...CS has plenty of kids playing this year who were starters or significant contributors on last years playoff team... When CS played for a state championship several years ago they had a soph playing QB as well as other soph's and other underclassmen starting and playing key roles...Most small schools will have plenty of underclassmen playing key roles because they don't have the luxury of having 85-100+ kids to choose from like the larger classification schools have... CS isn't as talented across the board as they have been in the recent past, however, they are still more than enough talented at several positions such as QB, RB and WR to be a tough out in the playoffs if they could put it all together...
11. Newton up 60-0 6:43 left in game
12. Because they should be playing a much better team next week. Right now CS (with their current coaching staff) is your classic bully. They beat up on the little guy (bad teams) but get exposed when they play a team that can counter with a decent/ good scheme and above average players to execute it. I haven't seen this staff beat a team that they shouldn't have yet but I have watched them lose to several teams that they shouldn't have.
13. I was really surprised how bad La Marque was. I don't know how they won 8 games. I commented to someone during the game that they looked like a JV team. They are easily the worst LM team I've seen in over a decade. CS did play well but I've seen enough of CS this year to know that tonight's score had more to do with LM being really bad than CS being really good.
14. For the record Coldspring refused to punt not once but twice on their side of the field with the lead and less than 2 mins remaining in the game....It was unbelievable the first time they went for it (and fortunately got a 1st down via offside penalty on the defense) and unexcusable the second time....
15. I hate to say it but I think most of it is called coaching. Shepherd just got it's first win over Coldspring in over a decade. Who knows Liberty might be next.
16. From what I've seen of BC the last several years they always seem to hit the ball well...Considerably better than any team in 22 3a...Huffman is the only team in 22 3a that I've seen hit the ball consistently at a high level most years... Shepherd does have a couple really good arms and if they're somehow able to slow down the Cardinal bats Shepherd may have a punchers chance being that it's a 1 game take all scenario... It's definitely not out of the realm of possibility that Shepherd could find a way to beat BC...I just don't expect them to... Good luck to both teams...
17.
I think the CS coach has done a great job getting the best out of his kids. That is not a disrespect to the kids at all. So don't turn it around like that. The CS kids always make it a good game and always compete hard.

Gets the most out of his kids year in and year out, teaches the game as it should be taught.
Making it a good game and competing hard doesn't imply that they're being taught and used in the right manner...I know I'm definitely not the only one who has watched alot of CS games over the last few years who feels the same, however, I'm not saying the HC isn't a good guy or isn't doing his best (because I think he is and on both accounts)... It's just my opinion after watching other good baseball programs and coaches (games and practices) that there are a few things that could be done differently to maximize the talent on hand...Of course there's always philosophical differences in terms of in game strategy, etc but that can be the case with just about any coach/staff...
