1. ...Watching CS baseball games is at times difficult to say the least I'm not one to criticize coaches much but I've been pretty disspointed with alot of the stuff I've watched the last few years (baseball wise)...
2. Yes and according to the announcers SLC was out of timeouts and on about 2 yd line with only 3 sec left and clock about to run out when Desota coach took a timeout. Anyone else catch what happened? TV actually showed him running up to official & calling a timeout to set up defense for one last play. If SLC was really out of TO's then game would've been over. Have no idea what he was thinking there but he's lucky it didn't cost him the game. Other than that it was a great goal line stand.
3. Coldspring doesn't have 19 high school coaches. They have about 9 that are involved in the day to day coaching of grades 9-12. The other coaches (about 4) who are usually up top in press box are junior high football coaches who are really only involved with the high school team on game nights charting plays, keeping stats, etc. I'm sure alot of schools probably use the same all hands on deck approach on game days (as well as 2 a days & playoffs) Coldspring probably has some of the worst facilities in the setx area-to the point that it's almost embarrassing. However, Barbay hasn't allowed that to be an excuse. It would definitely be interesting to see what the staff could do with a decent weight room for example. Heard there was a bond proposal coming up that would really upgrade stadium & facilities and put CS on par with other schools in the area but I haven't heard anything about it recently.
4.
14-6 Navasota. Navasota is just as athletic and alot more disciplined. Lamarque had player ejected in first 5 minutes of game
wow that's 2 weeks in a row. Same thing happened in Coldpring game.
5. Found it...navasotanews. com for anyone wanting to listen online
6.
Sorry CS fans but this IS NOT the CS of the last couple of years.
I don't think anyone who has watched CS game in and game out the last several years thought they were (if they were being honest with themselves).  This years team didnt quite have thr overall firepower & experience at several key positions.  This years team did play a very difficult pre district schedule & had to grow up really early.  Good season CS, keep ur heads up!
7.
only players on film that IMO could have went pro out of school are: Marcus Dupree, Earl Campbell and Adrian Peterson.
I agree. I think those are the consensus 3 that I always hear talked about by long time coaches. Amazing that 2 are from Texas & all 3 played in the cotton bowl in the Red River Rivalry. There have been some great games & players in that series.
8.
How can you say Montana is a RB? He takes the snaps from the center
Bingo!  He who takes the snaps is the quarterback
9.
Coldspring defense is not as powerful as they were last year, but offense is better.
I don't think CS is as good on either side of the ball as they've been the last couple of years, however, that's not an indictment against this years squad..Just think they probably have a much smaller margin of error.. CS has been able to line up and run it pretty much at will the last few years...Don't think this years squad is quite at that level and because of that Barbay has seemed to be more willing to throw the ball than in years past...Offense should be a little harder to defend with the threat of a decent passing game...It's a shame Sykes got injured because he really made the passing game a legitimate threat instead of teams only having to worry about the TE position...
10. Trojans have been playing much better than earlier in the year, however, I'm afraid they're going to really miss the playmaking ability of Sykes (who was lost for the playoffs with a acl injury against Cleveland) on all sides of the ball... He was a huge threat to score from anywhere on the field in the return game, defense on int's, and on offense from the receiver position... CS is losing one of their best players at the most important time of the year...I know they'll stick someone else in there and expect them to play well but it's tough when you lose a player of his caliber...
11.
]He didnt play it safe enouph!! One of those injuries is a critical part of this team and may be out for the rest of the season.Very unfortunate for the Trojans.I just pray that this young mans injury will not keep him from playing college ball.
Fairly sure Sykes was injured in the first half.
12.
Not just no heart, no intensity, no want, no leadership, and no drive to want to go back to Dallas, thats what the last 2 years the Trojans have had was the drive the heart and willingness to do what it had to do to make it to state
I hate to be too harsh on this years team but I must admit that they seem to lack that "it" quality (however one would like to define it, whether it be heart, intensity, leadership, drive, etc) Granted this years pre district schedule has been tough but its still no excuse for some of the erratic play. The regular season is close to the midway point and CS for the first time in 4 years seems to have a real problem at the rb position. They seem to lack the big play ability of years past. Not being as explosive would be fine but it seems as the drives get longer so do the mistakes. Don't know how many drives have already been stopped due to a rb losing a fumble. Tackling doesnt seem to be as good either but then again I didnt expect it to be early on after graduating 3 year starters Harrison, Andries & Monroe. Those 3 started from day 1 on very good teams for a reason. They had the great ability but they also had the "will & want to" to get the job done. There wasn't any quit in those boys. Not saying there is quit in the current group but I just don't like some of the stuff I've seen so far this year. Also by no means am I writing this years team off because they haven't even played a district game yet. However if the goal is still to win a state championship (which I definitely know it is for Barbay & staff) they're going to have to improve alot to make another deep run. A offense lacking big play potential coupled with turnovers & a defense that doesn't always tackle well will be hard to win with come mid November. Here's to hoping the last few weeks have been a eye opener for what is possible (beating LaMarque on the road) & want can happen (LCM) when you don't take care of the ball & get off of the field on defense when you have to.
13. It's starting to get real ugly. Thought they might struggle but didn't expect this. Oh well it happens.
14. That will probably about do it. Hate to say it with still 9 mins left but I've seen nothing from this years offense that makes me think they are capable of coming back from 3 td's down. Navasota is just too much for CS tonight. I guess what goes around comes around. CS has handed out some major beatdowns the last several years. Looks like it's their turn to take one tonight.
15.
you are correct, but i would think that just a little passing would open up the running game and keep navasota from stacking the box on us.
I agree. I wish we had thrown the ball more the last several years because we had the personnel to do it.
16.
Next week dont get any easier... :o
No it sure doesn't. It'd be a tough stretch for anyone but having to break in a new backfield (and the backfield also playing both ways) doesn't make it any easier. They're getting a baptism by fire. Lol They just gotta keep playing hard & they should be better for it.
17. The problem isn't the passing game. CS doesnt pass much at all & probably wont as long as Barbay is calling the plays. The reason they are struggling is so far this year they haven't been able to line up and run it at will as they have the last 3 years.
18. Willis didn't move ball much on CS either when they scrimmaged 2 weeks ago. Wasn't impressed at all with Willis. I agree however that CS is going to have to play alot better if they plan on leaving Navasota with a W. CS could drop a couple of games next couple of weeks & still end up a really good team. They shouldn't get anything but better as the new starters continue to get experience playing against really good competition. If they somehow make it through this 4 game stretch undefeated, watch out.
19. Per Barbay's pregame interview the tough non district schedule wasn't purposely done. Last years non district foes made it known after the games that they weren't playing CS anymore. As a result Barbay started calling around looking for opponents but had a very hard time finding anyone wanting to play. Navasota & LeMarque agreed to play only at home. I believe CE King is a 2 game agreement & they flipped for home game this year & CS lost the flip. Don't remember the details of how the LCM game was scheduled. Bottom line it's probably quite a bit tougher than Barbay would like (especially playing all 4 on the road) but as he said he wanted to play 10 games not 9 & administration/superintendent gave him the ok. As a result CS only has 3 home games this year. On the bright side of things they should be well tested going into district play & playoffs. Main concern right now is just staying healthy.
20. CS lines up in victory formation..CE King out of time outs. Ballgame. CS wins 21-13.
