Sadly it sounds like there are some people who have dogs in the fight and want their guys to get the job. I'm all about a fair process with the position hiring, but it sounds like this may be much more political then people think.
Also at a large job like this, people who are interested already know the position is open and have probably called the administrators and have been connected with the application
I would say that the "administrator" that is being spoken of has dealt with the coaches there on staff on a daily basis and probably know something we don't know. Possibly about the culture of the program, the way the kids react to them, or even that they are doing a great job with the program in the absence of a permant head coach
this team obviously had success this year, why are some people so  adamant about hiring from outside. I hope they give a coordinator the opportunity at the job with as much enthusiasm as some people are giving an outside hire.

i absolutly think the job should be opened fairly but I also hope the best man for the job would get it as well.

I'd hire Langston hometown boy who went to West brook he has been in coaching for awhile and I think he wants to be at west brook. Peevey is good and all I'd be fine with it. But Langston much more experienced and I personally think he did a good job at Lamar.

Putting up great numbers doesn't mean the kid is a great "prospect", assuming by prospect you mean College Prospect.
Top prospects are made at camps not on Friday nights. Most of the top players statistically each year in Texas don't get college offers.

Larry Neumann was a great coach and motivator of young men and an even better person. I have always admired him and respected him. Nederland is my second favorite team. Even though I grew up in an era were you were supposed to hate Nederland I could not because of the other family members who played there. Nederland has lost a SETX icon. One of the top coaches in this area ever;. He took Nederland to new heights. Yes I know my Nederland history and heard about the Knights of the Neches and so on as my grandfather an astute Indian fan also went to Nederland playoff games and was there when they won state. Nederland will be hard pressed to find someone who could possibly fill his shoes. I see haters on here every year bash Nederland, yet even them agreed that Neumann would get the absolute most out of his kids. Below are a couple of memories I have of Neuman led teams. #1 Nedrland vs Friendswood. I believe this game was in Houston somewere possibly Rice or one of the nicer HS stadiums in Houston. Nederland pinned FW back deep on the kickoff and stuffed them on defense. Then Nedrland proceeded to beat a team they were massive underdogs to. Nederland vs Pearland I believe it was in about 2012. Another shocking Nederland win over if I remember right was the top team in the state. I remebetr watching Nederland beating future NFL QB one of the McCown brothers Luke, or Josh. Nederlands defense intercepted him 5 times in the area round of the playoffs. Seems like a Baycity game were Nederland had beaten them after losing to them before.....  Anyway thought Id share some of my memories of Neuman led teams.

My thoughts exactly.  I have one that will be a Junior next year and another that'll be a Sophomore.  I believe in letting on field play speak for itself.  No need to come on here about it.  I'd rather talk about the entire team and upcoming season.  Like you said, a lot can happen between now and then...

Some kids even get burnt out or get interested in something else, I just heard we have a kid who quit football recently. This particular kid has played with our kids since they were 9 or 10. I sure hate to hear it, he difenantly always made an impact on defense and offense.

I'm sure their are a lot more kids that have gotten letters to visit schools or have had schools contact them or their parents. But they do not post it because a lot can happen between now an their senior year.

This is such a great topic.
Figuring out why kids quit athletics, there is only one reason. Because, mommy and daddy let them.
I will agree that you are either cut out for football or you are not. Not a whole bunch of in between, and that is what off-season is for, to determine who has what it takes.
On the flip side, I hate these run-oriented coaches who say I would throw the ball more if I just had the kids. See Barbers Hill as the prime example, if you commit to throwing it, the kids will show up.
The bottom line is, if it is not fun then a lot of kids are going to quit. Lots of other options out there for little Johnny.

    Coach of the Year... Mathews.....
    Vidor....
He put together a team in Vidor that beat all the odds, shut the naysayers up, and put a V on the D.C. trophy.
    PAM.......
Full of athletes, tons of speed... Put a 9 game streak together before being upended by Vidor... The future is bright with Hines and the Jr. QB next year.. Put a big M on the D.C. trophy.
    PNG......
Who would have thunk it? A stud sophomore QB? I think its easy to say the offensive MVP of the district. P.N.G. is young and overachieved with the help of a senior led defense... The initials P.N.G. on the D.C. trophy..
    Nederland......
Larry ballgame kept the dogs in it through all the turmoil.. IMO, the Dogs where the 4th best team in the district. In the thick of it until the very last minute, as always....
    Central.....
Hard to knock Toby when he gets these guys in the playoff every year.. Not the best Central team I have seen, but not a pushover at any level.
    Lumberton.....
Coach knows how to get these kids to play hard. Not full of athletes, but full of heart... These kids go out week after week and compete, and the Lumberton faithful follow these kids all year.
    Ozen..........
Low attendance numbers show Ozen to be a 4A school. Hopefully the district gets these kids to that level. If so, Ozen will be a contender.
    Livingston....
New announcer at the field helps.... Livingston is down, but not out.. They have a few good athletes and utilize them well...
    Baytown....
Hoping for these guys to get on track.. It takes time... But something will give.. These guys play hard...

In the nutshell, we all joke on this board during the season.. Its all fun and games... I am proud of all these kids and all these teams. Each team is full of its own traditions, and these kids go on to be successful in life at every level. We should all be proud of each and every one of them.. No matter what the final standings are. These kids are all winners and I wish them tons of success in life.
P.A.M. P.N.G. Vidor, Central........ I know you will represent the district well in the playoffs...... Be proud, have fun, and remember its a game...............................

Lumberton took a step forward in the "toughness" department this year.  They are definitely trending in the right direction.  I think they would be better suited for an I / pro set offense, but they played tough on offense.  Their defense struggled, but played hard.  To be out of the playoffs and still playing hard in their last game means their coaching staff has their confidence.  Good luck next year.

Sounds about right! I lost count. Vidor started too many possessions in our end of the field. The difference between winning programs and non winning programs is the ability to overcome adversity and not constantly shoot yourself in the foot. You don't have to have the most talent! Play disciplined, hard nosed football, and don't give your opponent free gifts! That's what happened in Livingston and Vidor. Must concentrate on Memorial and compete. Give yourself a chance to compete. Disciplined, assignment football.

I agree 100% about the O- line.  and your right, some great defensive players are out, but I'm still worried that the quarterback isn't running the ball as good as he was. Kind of new at this but even if the coach calls a passing play and he sees an opportunity to run, can't he? My opinion is he didn't have the best game and coach has 2 more quarterbacks waiting... maybe should have changed it up? (I tried to like but I had too many today or something... haha)

Don't let this bother you, some people just can't help themselves. Some of the things I read on here drive me insane. I often want to ask if these guys realize they are making fun of a bunch of 15-18 year old boys who walk out on that field and play their hearts out on Friday night.

I could give a rats arse what an announcer says! Has no part of what's going on on the field. Handle your business and homeboy has nothing to say!! Raiders allowed him to say what he wanted due to their performance on the field! Look in the mirror! You don't like your situation, can't nobody change it but you!

As far as the officials go, these were no where near the best and I haven't ever seen as many penalties waved off as they did. That being said, I agree with Coach Babin in that we did everything we could to lose this game. Now for that announcer..... some of you may remember the lady announcer they had a few years back? This guy made me wonder if maybe he was her son. I guess that is common in the other L-Town. Frankly, I was surprised to log on and see this topic was still going, time to lock it up and move on down the road.

I think this is being drug on a little too much (or a lot actually). Refs being horrible is a matter of opinion and depends on what side you were on. I've heard from our side they were bad, from the other side that there wasn't an issue, and from a neutral side that they were bad but didn't affect the outcome that much. I wasn't there and really don't care if they were or not, we still should have found a way to win, and anybody who was at the game knows we should have won- we had the lead with less than two minutes and got beat deep on a 70 yard bomb. The refs didn't throw and catch that ball, we let them beat us deep, which is the last thing you want to do when your winning with 2 minutes left and the opposing team has no timeouts.
As for the announcer: obnoxious and annoying? Yes, as far as I could tell from the live stream from Lumberton Ledger he was pretty out of line with some things he said. Was it a game changer? No, or at least it shouldn't have been. We sound like a bunch of sore losers.
my point is this: we had our chance to win in a game that really shouldn't have been close to begin with, regardless of bad officiating or not. Now like I said earlier, I hope our team and coaches are more focused on Lee than some fans are, if not it will be another loss for the L Train!

Correct! The loss had nothing to do with the refs! We beat ourselves. Mental mistakes and then they allowed the refs to get in their heads in a tight ballgame! Came out of the tunnel very flat. Better not happen tonight are the result will be the same!

I watched the game on tape Lumberton clearly beat themselves period. The turnovers in the redzone and penalties at bad times. You turn it over and then allow a 65-75 yard touchdown pass with less than a minute in the half after you drive all the way deep inside there terroritory. The halftime score should have been 28-7 Lumberton. They made a lot of mistakes way more than they did when PNG played them.
