1. I believe it was Kirk Bohls of the Austin newspaper that said that Manziel looked like a better passer in his first game than Ash has his whole career so far. And go ahead and be delusional. A&M had been in his second slot and with texas "moving on", it's pretty safe to say that A&M would be the favorites now.  ::)
2.

It was the karma decommit from the longhorns that got him! The eyes of Texas got him!
He'll be back. While unfortunate and I'd never wish injury on him, this may actually make him decide (for sure) a lot sooner.
SO MUCH IRONY!!!!! Because last night it came out that t.u. is no longer recruiting RSJ. Not because of injury, but because they have "moved on". RSJ saw how inept the passing game is in Austin, and wants no part of that. Mack is trying to save face by "moving on" before he goes elsewhere. (Possibly A&M)
3. Montgomery has knocked out Huntsville in the first round the past 2 years but now they are back to being district foes. Huntsville is 1-1 after blowing out Humble but then falling to College Park. Montgomery is 0-2 after close games against #3 Angleton and #1 Pearland Dawson. A few questions going in: Is Bodhi Bell going to be healthy? How effective will Huntsville's multi-QB system be? How will Huntsville's defense fare against the strong Montgomery run game? My Prediction: Montgomery 31 Huntsville 13
4. I'm not sure what The baby is smoking, but it's probably illegal...  :o
5. After scrimmaging the #2 team in 3a and Playing tight games with the #3 and #1 teams in 4a, Da Bears will be MORE than ready to "fight" with Magnolia. You sure are cocky about a team that hasn't proved anything in the past or so far this season. Prepare to be brought back to Earth soon. Beating Galena Park last year didn't do you much good either. I wouldn't be talking if I were in your position.
6. *too I am confused on whether or not that was an attempt to insult me because of your poor syntax, but just keep in mind that a close win over Galena Park is not going to cut it when Magnolia plays Montgomery and Brenham. Just pray the Bulldogs can keep it respectable instead of getting blown out like usual.
7. So Montgomery scrimmaged the #2 team in 3a and played the #3 and #1 teams in 4a. That's a heck of a start to the season! It's all downhill from here!
8. dawgs20, I'm glad you have faith in your team, but I felt like I was stretching it just putting them at 5th. They just aren't at the same level as the top 4. Mag West opening really hurt Magnolia's program. They dont have the best talent in their own town nor do they have the program in place to plug and play. They MIGHT contend with Willis and Waller to get to the outside edge of playoff contention, but to put them in the top and especially at the top of district is unrealistic.
9. Thanks Eazy, I suspect Montgomery-Huntsville will be closer than Brenham-West. I think Huntsville is a better than West and plus Montgomery will be a little banged up having faced back to back really good, physical teams. The Montgomery run game between Dedrick and Paul should be an interesting matchup against the Huntsville defense. Not sure how the MRI went on Bodhi's knee but either way I'd expect to see a lot more of his little brother Braden playing in his absence or limited play.
10. I did this last week on the Brenham-Foster thread, so I figured I'd make it's own thread this week. 1. Montgomery- another strong outing against another top 5 team in the state. They are facing a totally different level of competition than the rest of the district but they are playing them tough with a strong run game and defense. 2. Brenham- Cubs got back on the winning side after their shocking loss to Foster last week. They were barely up on this extremely inferior team at the half which should be concerning. They will need to shore up the mistakes heading into district play. 3. Huntsville- after thrashing Humble last week, the Hornets were overmatched by 5a College Park. They have played better than expected and seem to be the front runner for the #3 slot. 4. Magnolia West- Bell has built a program out of thin air but there seems to be a great lack of talent this year. They fell to former district for Stratford this week, but it should interesting if they can make a run at the the top three. 5. Magnolia- This is most likely by default. Willis has taken back to back thrashings and Waller had a bye. The Bulldogs do technically have a win (even though it's Galena Park) and they played respectable against 5a Bryan. Now there is a HUGE drop off after the top 4, but Magnolia has been decent enough to jump to 5th. 6. Willis- After being dominated by Navasota and Crosby, the Wildkats limp into district lacking the talent they had ridden for the past 3 years. I thought they could contend for a playoff spot, but they are not a plug and play program like the top of the district. 7. Waller- Bulldogs had a bye, so they didn't get to prove anything after last week's loss, but they usually have some athletes. This year is a coaching transition so it could be a long year. 8. Caney Creek- CC gets a win which is enough to jump Rudder into 8th. But it was against Porter so let's not get too excited. It's still Caney Creek. 9. Bryan Rudder- Young school is still trying to get the ball rolling. They were handled easily by El Campo, and have failed to be competitive so far which puts them in the 9th slot.
11. Montgomery survived their first two games and did much better than expected. Based on the rest of the district's performance, they could very well be the favorites to win district. We'll see how it goes though.
12. If Brenham loses this one then I am convinced the Mayans were right.
13. Hopefully Montgomery over Dawson, but I wouldn't bet on it.
14. I wasn't surprised by Huntsville winning, I actually picked them to win. I only said "actually won" in reference to Montgomery and Brenham losing. I think Huntsville's defense is what will separate them from West, Willis, Waller, and Magnolia. The district as a whole is definitely on a down year. Most of the teams are going to rely heavily on the run game and defense. Which ever teams limit their turnovers the most will rise to the top this year since talent is at a low.
15. Week Zero District 18-4A Power Rankings: 1. Montgomery- Respectable Loss to a very good team. 2. Brenham- Its still Brenham, but loss to Foster was surprising. 3. Huntsville- Actually won, but against a very bad Humble team. 4. Magnolia West- Won against first year Tomball Memorial. 5. Willis- Blown out by an underrated Navasota team. 6. Waller- Shutout by a decent El Campo team. 7. Magnolia- Barely beating Galena Park doesn't prove enough to move up. 8. Rudder- Beat handedly by former district foe Elgin. 9. Caney Creek- Lost by one point to New Caney in the Montgomery County Toilet Bowl.
16. I think Montgomery will struggle with James White and Tony Upchurch, but the Montgomery offense should have more success than last week. Dawson 35 Montgomery 24
17. I was VERY pleasantly surprised with Da Bears performance tonight. This might be the year Montgomery beats Brenham...
18. Quiv and Quincy went off! Future Aggies!  8)
19. The 3 spot shuffle between Montgomery, Huntsville, Mag West, and Willis could get interesting....
20.
Looks like we agree there on the picks BF- sounds like fun trying to pick district season out. This year is a crapshoot...
Emphasis on the crap.
21.
Angleton-49 Montgomery-6  Leading the Montgomery offense this game (probably the season) will be their returning kicker Will Fox and he will be busy........
Will is no longer playing football. He is focusing on baseball since he is committed to TCU for baseball. He also would have been starting at WR.
