  1. They needed the first one...Cats by 8.
  2. takemeouttotheballgame, You're right in the fact that if you asked a dozen different coaches, you might get a dozen different players...BUT, this whole board is built on nothing more than people's opinions. This original post was not cool in comparing only two girls, but the people who replied were quick to take the focus off of those two girls and spead out a dumb post to encompass anybody and everybody. Not everbody is right, but everybody has an opinion and should be able to express it. I haven't seen any posts on her that put down or slighted any area girls. A good example of opinions is ----Last year the Houston Texans had the first pick in the NFL draft. The Texans front office said " In my opinion we need a defensive end" and passed on Reggie Bush, Vince Young, and others that may have been better choices. IN MY OPINION that was one of the worst moves in decades, it's not likely, but you still might be able to find someone who can support their choice. That's their opinion. (maybe CRUSHCOACH thinks that was a good move)
  3. Is there an echo in here? It seems like I've been here before. IMO - without a doubt - Chelsea Pickering of Lumberton. There are some other really good players, but I think everybody else will be out of the playoffs sitting in the stands while Ms. Pickering is still leading her team to Austin.
  4. CC, I think you're right about the "growing pains" of LCM's young team. There is nothing wrong at all with growing pains if lessons are learned from them. I know Coach Ellerbee will continue to work these young ladies hard and think she's done a good job of putting some youngsters on the floor in an effort to build a nice future. With some hard work, LCM should be a team to keep an eye on in the future.
  5. Consistency - or lack it - continues to plague LCM. LCM played a great, smart game in Beaumont to beat Ozen and then Dayton really took them out of anything they tried to do. Dayton played well and shot well from the outside...this was not the same team that played earlier in the year at our gym in Little Cypress. Hats off to the girls in Dayton for their obvious continued hard work. The refs certainly were not the difference in the game, but I haven't seen many games this year that I thought were really officiated great. There were 3 refs officiating this game. At one point in the 2nd half, LCM drives to the basket makes the layup and is fouled on the shot. The basket is waved off AND THEN the refs give her 2 shot because it was in the act of shooting! Go figure. After the crowd went wild, the 3 refs got together and corrected it...but it took a while.
  6. If you have a young daughter interested in basketball, she will be able to learn some things by just being in the stands watching LHS in the playoffs. Good luck Lady Raiders. (can I still wear green and gold when I come to watch?)
  7. takemeouttotheballgame, I was surprised at the small crowd Lumberton brought to LCM a week or two ago. It's a shame there's not more support...there are some gifted players on that Lumberton team that don't just happen to come along every year. If you enjoy good basketball (no matter where your from) the Lumberton girls are fun to watch. You say a lot of people traveled to Austin last year and that's great, but if you know you've got a great team, it seems to me like you would want to follow and support your girls the whole season instead of jumping on the playoff bandwagon.
  8. Congrats to Coach Ellerbee and the LCM Lady Bears for a huge win and a big lift to the girls program! Great defense, 4 full quarters of effort, and team play were big keys to this victory. T. Denton played MUCH bigger than she is and A. Anderson shot well from the outside. Although it was truely a "team" win, IMO one of the biggest keys to the game was the guard play of the sophomore duo Harrell and Solieau. They made great decisions, protected the ball, limited turnovers, and held their composure when Ozen turned up the heat in the second half. Oh yea...then there was that little free throw thing with 2 seconds left... Great job ladies!
  9. CC, you make a good point. I guess we agree that LHS's girls BB program is the "model" program that the rest of the district is striving for. (or should be) See you tonight...can there be an upset tonight at Ozen?
  10. Lumberton by about a dozen. This game will start the preparations for the Lady Raiders playoff run. Lumberton has the best team in the district and is also the class act of the district. (Why is the LHS Lady's basketball program and it's fans so much different than the Lumberton smack talking football program????)
  11. takemeouttotheballgame wrote: "What offers has she received so far? I haven't seen anything on this forum about her prospects. What about the other outstanding players.... what schools are looking at them... and are they considering." I'm not a Lumberton Raider fan and do not know Chelsa or her family. I have no insight to her personal life or know of any rock solid offer from colleges to her...I'm just a sports fan that recognizes a stellar athlete and know that there has to be many college coaches slobbering all over themselves about a talent like this being out there uncommitted. Maybe someone out there close to the Lumberton program can shine some light on this for us. You raised some good questions though...sounds like the makings for a new thread!
  12. This post was started on October 5th, so it was really a pre-season "who do THINK is going to be the best" poll. I held my tongue (or fingers) until the front runners had a chance to prove themselves again this year. After having a chance to see most of the quality players in the area at least once, I think the best all around player is definately Chelsa Pickering of Lumberton. There are many extremely good players in the golden triangle area, but this young lady is a more COMPLETE player than anyone I've seen this year. Poise, offense, defense, court awareness, knowledge of the game, leadership, and a sense that everyone in the gym (on both sides) knows that she is in complete control of the game make her (IMO) the best player in the area. A pure athlete. I'm not sure what Chelsa's stats are for the year...but you get the feeling that they could really be whatever she wanted them to be. I'm sure the Lumberton mailman in her neighborhood will be glad when she chooses a college so his load will be lightened from all of the offers arriving in the mail. Good luck Chelsa.
  13. Weak. Too many turnovers. BC turned it up in the second half and the Lady Bears didn't respond. Overall, LCM was sluggish on offense and didn't really move "TO" the ball very well causing a high number of turnovers. (maybe too much turkey and dressing over the holidays?) Hopefully, the Lady Bears will put this one behind them and be ready to go all out over the next two days. BC's sophomore center, Samantha (?) played as well as I've ever seen her play. In limited minutes, she had several huge baskets and big rebounds down the stretch that kept this game from being a lot closer. Congrats!
  14. Ozen has been the biggest shocker to me this year in district 20-4A. I knew they were athletic, but didn't realize they were such a complete team. I haven't seen them against any "high quality" teams, but they will get the chance to prove themselves against Lumberton. Ozen's post and forward play has been tremendous. I haven't seen them enough to know if they can really handle the pressure that the Lady Raiders will bring. If they can handle the pressure...there may be a new queen in the district!
  15. Posted on: December 25, 2006, 06:53:09 PMPosted by: P-Hot-N-Shot-G "Everyone knows that LCM's sophmores can't compete with PNG seniors. PN-G and Nederland are shoe-ins to make the playoffs. LCM's chances are probably 1 in a 1000 of making the playoffs. Even with a coach like griff there's only so much you can do with young talent." 1 in a 1000? PLEASE PLEASE PM ME...I'd mortgage my house to take those odds on that bet. LCM has a young team with a very strong Sophomore class that has a lot of select experience and some limited varsity experience. By the time '07 district rolls around, I'll bet they'll be ready. Matt Johnson, Tim Barry, Stefan Cloeren, Stefan Leger, and Dallas Brown...I'm not sure these guys UNDERSTAND that they're Sophomores.
  16. jbseballfan wrote: "BC by 20. Jacques is just too much to handle." I don't think so. Jacques is an exceptional athlete and is having a great season, but LCM has some players that can handle her and keep her from turning this into the 20 point blowout that you predict. Like I said before, Jacques is great in all areas of the game...I just think that sometimes she gets athletics and her drama class mixed up.
  17. Congratulations to the Lady Bears on the district "W"! A quick start (something that hasn't happened in the past) paved the way for this victory. For the average sports fan, all they will see is the boxscore and that LCM won...for those that really follow LCM girls basketball you had to have been impressed with some of the improvements made. LCM is young; progress and improvement is the name of the game. The press break, forcing turnovers, protecting the ball, and defensive aggression were all much improved. LCM faded in the fourth quarter, but still fought hard and secured the victory. This team still has a chance to surprise some district foes if they put together 4 full quarters. Congrats Coach Ellerbee and Lady Bears!
  18. I saw Shelby Fluker (Kirbyville/Most Wanted) for the first time at the WFC qualifier at Crush Park. Shelby is a tremendous outfielder with the strongest most accurate arm I've seen this fall. This young lady is certainly one to keep an eye on!
  19. Bobkat, I wish I could find something to disagree with you on. Orangefield (and Lumberton) have been successful not only because of Little Dribblers, but because their LD's program DOES IT RIGHT! The kids want to be there, they have fun, and they learn the correct fundementals. It's not a community boot camp. My original post was about how LCJH's 8th grade girls were loaded with athletes...and they are. I'm not backing off that statement one bit. That's why your statement is so valide about the Little Dribblers program. The Orangefield atheletes are not necessarily better athelets, they've just "been there done that" in Little Dribblers. 49 to 25 is not a very close score...but a 24 point victory for any Orangefield girls team is not uncommon is it?
  20. Ditto CRUSHCOACH, The first quarter put the Bears in a hole that they never really recovered from. Even as bad as it was, we were lucky to only be down by 9 starting the 2nd quarter. LCM's shooting percentage had to have been extremely low from both the field and the stripe. Poor free throw shooting continues to haunt us. LCM is very young and it shows in some of the fouls we commit...we have to grow out of that. I think T. Denton played hard and has finally fully recovered from the bad ankle sprain that put a damper on the start of the season for her. K Harrell played well and did a good job of pushing the ball after Ashley got into foul trouble early. I agree with you that after the 3 straight wins in the Orangefield tournament that I thought LCM was on their way...and they still may be...but last night was a step backwards. PNG had a good game plan and executed it. LCM got suckered into playing PNG's game and got away from attacking PNG's weaknesses. District wins are hard to come by, this should have been one.
  21. bearbacker30, I apologize; apparently you misinterpreted my comment on practice time for the LCJH girls. I have absolutely no problem at all with Coach LeBouef's coaching, decision making, or style of play and think the rest of the Jr. High coaching staff does a good job as well. And, I must agree with you that Coach LeBouef does a great job and certainly uses her time effeciently. But, I'm not a bleacher coach without a clue. I have a vested interest in LCJH's past, present and future and fully understand the schools daily schedule as well the basketball teams practice schedule and habits. I simply feel that this group can handle and needs to be pushed more than some of the other classes. My "hint - hint" to Leah was to get her to ask herself the question about practice time from within. She doesn't need to answer to me or anyone else...I just wanted her to ask herself. (she did and responded to me in a PM yesterday). In the LCM high school gym hang SEVERAL banners from the glory days of the Lady Bears basketball program. On the majority of those banners is the name Leah LeBouef. There has to be a great sense of pride to walk into that gym, see those banners hanging from the rafters and re-live the sweat, sacrifice, and work it took to attain those goals. Those banners didn't come easy then and banners of the future won't either. My point was - -If that's the goal of these young ladies...you can't start pushing too soon. Thanks Coach LeBouef for what you do for these young athletes and keep up the good work!
  22. The Little Cypress Community Basketball league is NOT affiliated with Little Dribblers national programs. It is a very well run community basketball league that teaches/stresses fundementals at a much more competitive level than the Upwards programs, but does not have an "advancement team" like Little Dribblers. Players must live in the LCM school district to be eligable to participate in this league. This league has continued to grow over the last few years and hopefully will have a positive impact on the school districts teams in the near future. The LC Community season will start after the Christamas holidays and sign up have already taken place. A board of directors contact would be Dawn Nichols.
  23. Little Cypress Jr. High's 8th grade girls program is loaded with athletes this year. 2006-2007 LCJH girls basketball teams COULD surprise the schools that have walked through this district the last several years. The 7th grade has looked good as well and they are improving each week. The only drawback is that the Jr. High DOES NOT PRACTICE enough! (hint , hint if you're out there Leah)
  24. WOSmustangs, You are right about this game and that it should be played in Texas, but it's a simple matter of geograghy. Texarkana is located in the northeastern most corner of the state (hence the name). There are limited venues in northeast Texas that will hold the type of crowd that these two teams will bring with them. They have played in Rose Stadium in Tyler before with overflow crowds and not enough tickets for the HP fans and they were very vocal about it. (I believe that stadium hold about 11,000, not positive on that figure though.) Even though this is about the same driving distance for both team and the largest stadium that would really be nuetral, HP acts offended that they would be asked to play there. Shreveport would certainly be a larger stadium, but about twice the driving distance for HP. Not the most perfect situation for either team, but you have to admire Norton for sticking to his guns. I just had some information that if they both win this week, their game WILL be in Fair Park Stadium in Shreveport 1:00PM Friday, and if that stadium had not been available it would have been played in Grambling Stadium near Ruston, La.
