  1. These bonds should fit each school districts needs and all 39 were probably different. I doubt seriously if many or ANY included turf. Why not focus on the great things this bond will bring for the WOS community. About the "embarrassing" turf issue...every time I think that horse has been whipped to death it rears it's ugly head again. (sorry...no pun intended) Take a deep breath and let it go.
  2. This was a tough, physical, game where neither team backed off or shied away from contact. Coach E has the Lady Bears running the floor with purpose and look much improved from last year. Congrats on the "W" and good luck this weekend in the Nederland tournament!
  3. I tip my hat to Vidor as well for having the courage and leadership to jump to the fore front and do what's right! I too hope others follow suit.
  4. I already addressed your first question...it was just a response to a previous post and it got the notice I was looking for, but there is nothing malicious about it. Sorry you took such offense to it and I won't post it again. An attractive stadium with turf would be nice for any school district regardless of whether the team history had been 10-0 or 0-10 for the past 10 years. Unlike posted before, I don't think WOS "deserves" turf because they have the winningest....yada yada. It's a school luxury for an extracurricular activity and should be treated that way until all of the priority items are secured and updated. I'm not from WOS and I don't really have a dog in the fight...but this is something that the WOS community did have control over and didn't really want/need as bad as some on this board would have you think. Again, nothing malicious about my intent with that statement. (JMO) My concern and why I'm interested in all of this reaction and venting is that I see this same type bond issue forth coming in my own school districts future. You can always learn from watching those around you and how they handle things. If you had it to do over again aren't there some things you would do differently?
  5. No real slam...just playing off a previous post. I'll re-phrase the question. Do you really think the WOS kids "deserve" turf more than kids from say...Buna?
  6. IF turf was to be put in at S/WO, it would only be able to draw for maybe a first or second round game. The geographical location of Orange DOES make a difference. Maybe a small school playoff game of schools to the north would make the trip to Orange, but anyone West is playing in Houston at an established mega-stadium. Do you really think S/WO kids "deserve" turf more than kids from say...H-F?
  7. td, You can't be any more straight forward than you've posted here. I think you're right on the money! (no pun intended) Bond issues (or any other political avenue) are won or lost on the effort of getting the information out to everyone affected and assuring the citizens who share your views get to the polls. Other schools have promoted what they want and worked to get the support of the effected citizens. The people who thought someone OWED them the money are mistaken.
  8. WOS92, You've always showed some class and posted with intelligent things to say on this board...this certainly wasn't one of those posts.
  9. Why do you think that was meant to be funny? I really do think they are PROBABLY the better team this season. My point was that they have to prove it! I hope the Bears play strong and make you earn everything you get.
  10. I conceed that Lumberton is probably the better team this year, but you're right...stranger things have happened. LCM has not played real well this year, but they are not without talent. Very few people are even giving this game much thought, but they don't cancel the game just because one team is 7-1 and the other is 1-7. Go Bears!
  11. J.R., I'm not sure exactly what's up with the LCM football team, but I do know a lot of these young men and "soft" and "undisciplined" are not words I'd use to describe the ones I know. I doubt very seriously if the things you have to say here are true, but hey...what do I know...apparently you've been skipping English class to watch them practice. I think Lumberton is the better team this year...but I'll still be there supporting the Bears.
  12. Cherokee (okay...there...I said it) I lived in Groves and went to PNG schools during my Jr High days. I have resided in Little Cypress for the past 20 years though. I cannot read music well and I am not proficient with any musical instrument. BUT I can guarantee you that after hearing Chai Chera Cheer ,"that song" 50 times in a 3 hour period, I could play it back on a piano, tuba, flute, guitar, harp, or sticks from my front yard without missing a beat! Like it or not...it really is one of the most truely original and identifiable fight songs anywhere in the state of Texas.
  13. Good luck Cody! I hated to hear of the injury. I hope your rehab goes well and you come back strong and have a great year next season. You have a chance to impress colleges with your character as well as your talents.
  14. Is there really a point to this thread? Everybody knows the answer even if I personally REFUSE to say it!
  15. There seems to be a lot of confusion on how the Inspire 12 works and how it's funded. This is funded through community business, developers, and private funds (who have "special" business interests). The idea is that by offering the scholarships it will draw families into the community, bring more local businesses to the city and more support to those already existing, increase housing developement, and subsequently raise the tax dollars brought into the school system. It wasn't offered to ALL schools because it's a community developement idea. There is mild curiosity about Inspire 12 right now, but when the end of May rolls around and WOS and LCM are handing out scholarships to senior students then everyone will pay closer attention to what's happening.
  16. Ditto CoachKfan If your school's program is not hitting the hardwood the very first day they are eligable then you are starting off in the hole! I'm not sure which school you are referring to, but if this is in fact true...the AD is not doing his job. (I'm sure the AD is also the head football coach, but that shouldn't matter)
  17. Inspire 12 is NOT funded by the Stark Foundation and some homework on the program is needed by you before you try to judge who should and should not be eligible to "dip in". I know this is a sports board and all topics are related to that and it's nice to get caught up in what teams would be like if they merged, but if schools do consolidate, it will have absolutely nothing to do with how good a football program may be. Please enlighten me by listing all the benefits I'm receiving from the annexation, and how the Stark Foundation "let LCM get in".
  18. The larger of the three schools will be the division I "representative"...it has nothing at all to do with the order of finish in the district race. A district champion will be crowned and no one will be taken out of the mix because they are the "division I champ".
  19. It doesn't matter if you're ahead by 30 or behind by 30...you're going to hear Cherokee 50+ times a night anyway!
  20. I'm not an "L-train" supporter by any means, but why are you posting this now? Lumberton has been waiting for a season like this for a long time and this season didn't happen by accident...why not let them enjoy their time in the sun whether it lasts 1 year or 10?
  21. A one point many years ago, all in one district were: Bay City - Blackcats West Columbia - Rough Necks Port Lavaca Calhoun - Sand Crabs El Campo - Ricebirds Brazosport Exporters
  22. I heard that too! I heard they had Southlake Carroll too, but they backed out.
  23. I remember passing through an Arkansas town that was the "Curly Wolves". Can't remember the town and have never heard a definition.
