  1. Should be a much closer and more competitive game than in years past. WOS is always strong right out of the blocks, so I don't think there is any sneaking up on them so... LCM will have to prove themselves early.
  2. Nederland has a very good program and excellent coaching staff, but don't kid yourself into thinking Nederland falls anywhere close to the "STATE POWER" category. If you go 60 miles out of MC, nobody gives Nederland a second glance.
  3. I'm with you Jake...no way do the Bears finish dead last. There will be a log jam for spots 3 through 6, but I feel LCM has a good shot at making the playoffs this year. Isn't Lonestargridiron the one that using a chicken or monkey to make their picks?
  4. I don't think you should ever "slam" a high school kid for their efforts and I hate when some people start leaning that way and make it personal, but the reason this board turned on Lumberton was because of some of "L-towns" nieve adults who started threads about how far the Raiders would go into the playoff when they hadn't won but a handfull of district games in the last few years! Lumberton football was certainly the most entertaining topic of this board and I'm sure it will begin again VERY soon. If you want to refresh your memory of how this all got started...the comedy begins right here in this section on page 58 with the thread "Lumberton Undefeated? (Man...that still kills me!)
  5. I hope Lumberton continues to improve. BUT...The bottom line is that NO ONE outside of "L-town" pays any attention to the posted 40-times or returning starters until they can get some W's posted.
  6. I think the district as a whole is getting much better, but IMO it will be Central and Ozen fighting for the top spot and a gang fight for 3rd. Central is very quick and continues to be physical and strong inside. Going into the season they would have to be the front runner for the district crown. Ozen was probably the most athletic girls squad in the district last year and will have the majority of those ladies back again this year. It's too early to tell in June...but the 3rd place team may just be determined by who works the hardest this summer, and who plays with the most heart when the season starts.
  7. Congrats Adam! Lon Morris is a good JUCO program with some strong connections to some Division I schools, the main tie is with Southern Methodist University. Keep working hard.
  8. The Nederland VS LCM Regional finals of 1997 was possibly the best high school baseball game I've ever seen. Great pitching and superb defense from both teams. Hale VS Sutherland I believe. Nederland wins 1-0 on a passed ball late in the game. The stands were packed, the baseline fences we 3 deep with people trying to see and a couple of hundred were turned away at the gate. I hope BC and Jasper get that type of atmosphere.
  9. Coaches were always on me about trying to gain weight and always gave me a hard time about it. After months of the coaches unsuccessfully trying to add bulk to my body, one coach gave me the nickname "wonder legs". He said "Your legs are so skinny it's a wonder they don't snap off and poke you in the butt." Another coach call me "Bic". The girl I dated my junior year was thin too and the coach said "You look like a pen and pencil set walking down the hall together."
  10. SCHOOLS OUT!!!! BH89-2 baits a "weak" trap...but nobody bites (yet)
  11. Congratulations Bears on great season! I will be listening to the Bay City/BH series with great anticipation. Not that I really care who wins...but with hopes that BH89-2 takes a foul ball to the head.
  12. Woo-hoo! BH get's a little scouting time in.....
  13. LCM - This years district champions with a predominately Sophomore team. An extremely tough district, but the Bears will CONTINUE to be the team to beat for AT LEAST a few more years.
  14. I read Ty Cobb's biography...I don't recall him being such a rabid Lumberton football fan.
  15. Just a few games that I know for sure from last night: In the Girls 5th-6th grade division, Thompson's blue team won the championship over Sheppard's green team. Todd Sheppard's green team was one of the most steadily improving teams throughout the season and played well in the tournament. They have a good mix of good young basketball players. Thompson's blue team had a good mixture of height and quickness. Quick guards and solid rebounding inside. All of these young ladies will take the ball to the hole, but these girls won most games with aggressive 4th quarter defense. The boys tournament games are still ongoing. The boys championship games will be played this Thursday night. Last night in the boys 5th & 6th grade division, the Purple team defeated the Red team in overtime to vault the Purple team into a championship game rematch against the undefeated Blue team. This will probably be an exciting game to watch with a lot of entertainment value. This game will feature a few of LCM's future standouts.
  16. Congrates to your family for such a great day! The LCCBB league season is so short and it seems that a lot of the kids are just hitting their stride right now. These tests and the week with no practice may really throw a kink into some of the play this weekend.
  17. Diva, We got spanked for the first time this past Saturday and with no practices this week because of TAKS tests, I'm not sure we're "really" where we want to be for the start of the tournament. The games should really heat up this Saturday! Hope to see you there!
  18. The real problem is that you can't stop it now. It's too wide-spread. If you teach your kids non-aggresive, limited contact basketball they will get killed!
  19. CRUSHCOACH, I'm surprised you got to see the final 43 seconds!!!!!!!! I know there was at least 1 game you didn't get to hear the final buzzer from INSIDE the gym! If I recall correctly, it was that same "pacifier" comment that the ref to exception to.
  20. LCM finished on a positive note with a hard fought win that was good for the players who will return next year as well as a great way to go out for the 3 seniors who will graduate. I see a bright future for Lady Bear Basketball and I think the 3 seniors have tought the underclassmen some valuable lessons. 3 great young ladies that I have no doubt will do well in whatever they chose to be a part of. Taylor Denton - always played much bigger and tougher than she actually is. Allison Clary - always quick with a smile and a jumper from the corner. Brittany Twiner - a never say die wide open til the end spirit. (school maintenance probably spent half the morning repairing the first 2 rows of the bleachers where you crashed) Thanks again seniors -----and to all of you underclassmen ----how hard are you going to work in the off season?
  21. I know that referees have a tough job, but there have been very few games this year that I have thought were really well officiated. As the year wore on it continued to get worse. Last night's LCM/Vidor game was terrible. If you are not going to play the part...at least fake it. One of the officials in last nights game "walked" around all night long standing in the backcourt looking half interested in the game. The game would have been better if they had played with street ball rules of letting the girls call their own fouls. To top the whole night off, after one of the Vidor players had to leave the game with a bloody nose, the referees called time out and called both teams together to warn them about rough play ------WITH 43 SECONDS LEFT IN THE GAME! Please...if you call the game like it should be from the start it wouldn't get to that point. The best officiated game I saw all year was LCM/Ozen. "Thank you" to the 2 men that called that game. It was actually a basketball game.
  22. Diva, You're right about the caliber of play getting better in the older groups, but even in the younger ages, it's fairly easy to tell the ones who have played before and the kids who have just started. The bottom line is getting kids in the LCM school district involved in the fundementals of basketball BEFORE they get to the Jr High school level. Take a quick look around the golden triangle and it's easy to see what towns have been in "Little Dribblers" programs the longest. We have some catching up to do, but I believe you're right in the fact that we are headed in the right direction. I hope your kids are having fun and good luck in the tournament! (I'll be looking Saturday trying to figure out who you are)
  23. I watched all of the Jr High girls teams associated with district 20-4A. I saw several really talented girls players throughout the district that will eventually make an impact on their schools basketball program, but I didn't see anyone that I thought would make a great impact as a freshman. There are some freshman that work their way to the varsity court, but an "impact" player from Jr High to varsity is extremely rare. I believe LCJH has a few girls this year that will eventually be quality players in high school...I was quite impressed with a center at Central Jr high in Nederland...and there were a couple of good shooters from the PNG schools, but in my opinion the impact players usually step up about halfway through their freshman season.
  24. Slam14 is there every Saturday Diva. I've been involved in this league for several years and I still have one daughter left playing and I coach her 5th & 6th grade girls team. If this is your first year you would have to agree that there's no greater entertainment value around. These kids are great to watch play! Everything is fairly low key right now, but LOOK OUT when the end of year tournament starts!
