  1. I think we are in the same bracket at LC.. eeeyikes. Im curious if they are as good as the hype though.
  2. Man its hard to tell. I would say that odds are 1-2 rounds. That would be a logical prediciton. I will say this, Nederland has LOST to lesser teams in the playoffs before. Maybe this year we are the lesser team so maybe its our turn to get a break. :?:
  3. Thats the attitude of a person that cares about the kids and is a real fan of the game.. 8)
  4. I have often wondered why more kids from Nederland have not played college ball. I cannot possibly imagine Micah not being D1 material or at least D1 AA. He has as much skill, power and speed as any running back I have seen in high school football. DJ, will do fine. He is already on the prospect lists of a lot of big schools. He will go somewhere I am sure as long as he makes the grades.
  5. where have we heard this before? Just take it 1 week at a time and lets see what happens. You never know.
  6. Now that is stating the obvious But its all about RELATIVE ability. When you are playing teams that also have no defense and have a running game like we have then its alamost certainly going to be a shootout. IMO the Lumberton game was a shootout despite the score.
  7. I understand... But you can see from the status quo of Vidor players that they STILL are not working hard enough, not intended to be an insult.. Vidor has the coaching and technique, they just cannot execute and thats about the mental game and flat out athleticism overall, not just the star players. They just dont quite have the size, quickness and they have not been able to make plays in clutch situations against teams that are playing at a high level. We are suffering from the same thing ourselves. Micah is a monster but he is an island, especially with Chris out. There is a noticeable difference in the athletes size, speed and quickness this year overall. Not to mention a general lack of experience.
  8. I think they can win until they run into a well rounded playoff worthy defense, which they have not seen since WOS. With all due respect to Dayton, my honest observation was that the offense is really just adequate. The running game is just ok, and the passing game is just ok. I know you guys lit Nederland up but thats not big deal. I think Daytons defense is capable of holding really good teams to <20 points but I expect that once the rubber starts to meet the road its going to get really tough and you are going to be HEAVILY relying on your defense to keep the points down. Dayton reminded me a lot of the 2000 WOS team, not really much offense but one heck of a defense and you know how far they got. 8)
  9. LOL, what do you know about Galena Park?? Nothing is even remotely obvious until you actually know something concrete about both teams. You want the Dogs to lose.. It has nothing to do with anything obvious.
  10. Vidor needs a program.. Your need kids seriously to be preparing from the time they are about 9. You can see that Vidor needs overall conditioning. They are not small, but they are not built for football. LCM on the other hand is... You could see a marked difference in the conditioning level of the LCM players in general. Big arms, lean, big calves, strong, quick. Dayton on the other hand was fairly small but they were in phenomenal condition. They are quick, lean and all of them are stout. Vidor plays with a ton of heart and desire, they just dont have that edge it takes to win under pressure. Part of that is a little luck, and then using it to get some experience to build on. I know you guys think the win over Nederland meant something, but it really did not. You caught the Dogs when they were/are down. I said this weeks ago and I stand by it.. I know Vidor wants to win, but they are going to have to commit at the level it takes to win starting at a much younger age,,, In my opinion for the plug nickel its worth. What has taken the successful teams to the next level is years of preparation and a very high level of commitment.
  11. So the only decent teams they have played are Friendswood' date=' WOS and Central up to this point and they are 1-2. Hmmmm. :?: 8) I think this game is easy to make a prediction on based on perception,, but perception is not [i']necessarily reality. I think this game will need to be played, I really honestly do not see it as a glaringly obvious blowout, not anymore. It could very well be but I would not bet too much money on the spread or that Nederland absolutely cannot win this one.
  12. Symantics, OK,, let me rephrase... Why can you "not stand" Nederland? :?:
  13. Stranger things have happened than Nederland winning this game. I do not think Daytons offense vs. our defense is the question. They are better and we are going to be in a battle to just slow them down..This defense learned a LOT this week against LCM and made quantum improvements in their positioning and execution that you can only appreciate if you have actually seen them play. If Nederland has a chance its going to be because they find a way to get back on track and score like they have been all season.. Central exposed some vulnerability in the Dayton offense that we will be the 1st to have the opportunity to watch film on and try to exploit. I am not saying its the key, but it cant do anything but help. You need to go back and look at history. Nederland has ALWAYS been somewhat soft and they have always given up yards. BUT they have always been a bend, but dont break defense. 12 points and 275 is probably pretty average over the Neumann era. As long as they dont allow you to score I dont care if they allow 1000 yards per game. If you want me to make the safe choice based on statistics then sure Dayton is he favorite, but I think I see us turning a corner defensively that is going to help bring us closer to playing us to full potential. I pick the "Callallen of the North" to pull this one out just because I want to! 8)
  14. There is 1 truth that I have learned following football. You can call holding on EVERY snap if you choose to do so. Every team holds somewhere on every snap, if the refs wanted to call it they could do it on every play.. If you are looking for it you are going to see it. Start objectively watching LCMs line on offense and you will see what I mean.. I bet you typically watch the play and not the line ( I know I do) but try me and you will see what I mean. When youare watching a game you always are LOOKING for the other team to do something illegal so its glaring. You never look for it with your own team.
  15. The difference between Troy and Micah is that one man could not tackle Troy. It took a gang to gradually slow him down and then use more weight than his legs could lift to get a knee to touch.. He was a human bulldozer. Micah is QUICK and he is FAST and he gets the tough yards but he is not hard to tackle once you wrap him up even in the open field. Once he is wrapped up he usually goes down. He will buckle and fall, Troy would not EVER give in. Troy ran like if his knee touched the ground his heart would stop beating,, That is how hard he ran on every single down and he NEVER let up for 1 second in any game, ever that I saw. His intensity and determination never stopped. .. Micah is great in a different way but I cannot truthfully say that one was better then the other, if you force me to choose at gunpoint I would reluctantly say Sumrall but its a close call. Ross was FAST and he had a dominating line.. He could really turn the corner I tell you...WOW.. The closest I have seen to compare to Sumrall was the kid from Schertz Clemens that ran against PNG in 1999, he ran very similarly to Sumrall but he was it.. They had a little scat back and no passing game so PNG took them in one of the best HSFB games I have ever personally witnessed. I will say this... There is NO doubt Mosely and Gutierrezz are one of the greatest 1-2 combinations of a true tailback/fullback that I have witnessed in highschool football,, ever.
  16. I did not mean to disrespect the team, but you need to get out of the district and watch real quality 4A football. Vidor has talent but they do not have enough 4A playoff level talent for Coach Matthews to work with, at least not yet... I am telling you if Vidor ever gets REALLY serious about preseason condtioning and gets a batch of well rounded athletes on both sides of the ball Coach Matthews can get into the playoffs and make a serious run. Vidor defintely has the will to win and a lot of heart and pride.. But they are not even CLOSE to a serious contender.. Just go to Houston this year and watch all of the playoff games you can. Watch the size and speed of their big guys, they are BIG and they are FAST and they are STRONG. Sure Vidor has some speedy players but great teams have lineman that are as fast as your wide receivers man. Im telling you.. Theres a much bigger picture than you are seeing in district play,,, I know because I have seen it.. Try me and I GUARANTEE you you will come back agreeing with me.
