  1. At least you can do 7 on 7, we had inter-squad today and Defense won 3 TDs to 2, we maybe threw the ball 10 times in 2 hours of play.  Trying to convert RB into a QB, which would give us and extra runner. Thought we were going to open it up, thought wrong.  Defense looks tough against the run, but when we play a passing team  we will struggle since they never have to defend the pass in practice.

  2. Looks like Montgomery struggled at the end of the season, like BH did. They dropped 4 out of the last 5 games of the season. Though it is the playoffs, They look to have one very good pitcher, Crosby beat them in tournament play early in the season. Records are almost the same. 18-4A is a very tough district so 11-5 and a 2nd place finish is not bad. BH has to hit and score more runs, too many 0s across the scoreboard the last few games.

  3. It was a great game from both teams. Nederland is scrappy, dont think BH is SR loaded, only 3 SRs starting in the field and SR started on the mound but  had 2 Jrs 3 freshman and 2 Soph playing tonight as well. Both teams are young over-all. #2 Coolings (SS) has been steady all year and has come up big in numerous games the whole season, he is a SR, and having a great last year of HS ball.  Talk about clutch again tonight.

  4. BH in 3, will be close  There have been some close games between these 2 teams over last few years .  Think it will go 3 either way. Will be interesting if it does go 3, who will get the start for BH in game 3,  How deep is Nederland,? Really only heard about the freshman lefty, Only have 11 or 12 kids on varsity for Nederland. Thinking game 3 may be pieced together by a few different pitchers by both teams, if it goes 3, BH has some depth in pitching which may be the advantage. Not sure what Nederland has for depth.

  5. How many times have Nederland and BH met in the last 4 years ? Is this the 3rd time in 4 years.  Nederland won game 3 in a close one in 2011, BH won a 1 gamer in 2012. In 2011 Brown (Nederland) and Long(BH) combined for 28ks in one game.  Have had some great games, should be a good series. Both teams are very comparable.  Heard Nederland only has 2 Srs starting, BH has 3 pending who is pitching,  One of Nederlands pitchers is a freshman and 1 of BHs is a Soph, both lefties and BH has a freshman and Soph starting in the field, both over-all young teams.  Both 18 wins on the season.  Should be a good match up. Difference will be if BH can turn the late season dip around. Season starts over for everyone 0-0 record.

  6. Good Win, the last two games were too close for comfort.  Only had 4 hits and 1 run through 5 after only scoring 2 the game before. Need those sticks to wake up earlier in the game.  Taylor Coolings played a good game and Brian Taylor settled in after the 1st inning and took control.  2 more wins to go. Summer Creek has some athletes and wont be easy if we dont hit with runners on and start out a little earlier.

  7. Nederland only has 12 players on varsity ?  Wow,most 4A programs have 18-20 players. Is this normal for Nederland, they are tough every year as far back as I can remember, thought they would have a bunch of kids wanting to get into the program. Same for the freshman on BH, if there were not injuries some would not be there or would not be starting. It is a game of oppurtunities and some have had to step up.

  8. Saw the post and thought there were a lot of freshman on varsity for Nederland. How many freshman are on varsity for Nederland ? If a player is good enough they will be on varsity no matter what class he is. Most teams have 1 or 2 freshman on varsity if they are strong enough some teams have 1 freshman in the line-up. It is hard for a freshman to crack a line-up in a 4A or 5A school, and one that is rich in talent like( Nederland, PNG ) is really hard but if good enough they do. Most schools soph teams are coached by one guy and usually have no asst coach with them and not their primary sport. If they are fortunate they get some practice time with varsity, a diffrent level of coaching as one post mentioned and they will go over situations, also just hit and throw with your kid and get with a top summer program.  That is what gets them ready for the next level. A few schools have some freshman contributing to varsity this year, LaPorte has 2 starting, Kingwood Park has a freshman with 3 hrs, Barbers Hill has 3 freshman on varsity 1 starting and doing very well, New Caney Porter has a freshman in the top 2 pitching rotation, the Woodlands has a pitcher on varsity, it seems that the 2017 class has a lot of talent all over.

  9. Great game by all, team win. Kitchens can hit !!! Coolings, Bonnin, most everyone in the lineup did something to contribute.  Still in the hunt for another Dist title. Great outing by Taylor. Down Year ? Dayton is a tough team but made some costly mistakes early that cost some runs, pitcher we faced Friday was good and effective the lefty today was not bad, but thought they had more depth in their pitching. They have some heavy hitters in the line-up and no lead seems safe, if they find some depth in pitching they will do well in the playoffs.  Again if Denny coaches this team to a district title it should be one of his better years as a coach.  Nobody was high on this years team and called it a down year If you watch the coaching staff, they coach and give direction and feedback the entire game. They have a very talented group of underclassman, going to be very tough for the next few years. Great 2 games by these 2 good teams, fun to watch.

  10. is the Holdren kid that's a freshman playing varsity. Also having Denny as a head coach will have BH in contention every year . He is probably one of the best coaches in the region.

    Holdren not on varsity,

The freshman on varsity are  as followed , Bryce Bonnin has been starting in Left Field, Rhett McCall getting time at 3rd and catcher and Chris Stevens also getting some time, Brain Taylor and Trever Kichens are the Soph starters.   Not making excuses for injuries, but Denny can change the outcome of a game, he is that good as a player, so it hurts.  My point is they are winning even with the injuries , I can imagine how tough they would be if all were 100%. They had the 3rd baseman out for a while, he is back and getting better every week, they lost a Sr outfielder with a leg injury for a while and throw Denny into it.  All SRs and all starters, that would hurt any team, but they keep moving forward and sometimes it aint pretty but a w is a w.   The Srs that are playng are solid and some have'nt peaked yet this season and are due, they also have been good leaders to the younger players. Will; be a great test tognight, no doubt Dayton is tough this year.

  11. 15-5 and tied for the district lead is a down year ?  It may be compared to the last 2 years, but when you take in consideration that the best player has not been on the field this year because of an injury and you have 2 soph starting and you have 1 freshman in the line-up, sometimes 2 or 3 freshman in the line-up and 1 loss came to Deer Park a top ranked 5a team, 2-1. Everyone said last year was going to be a down year when the 2012 class left, last years team went just as far with a better record. This year has had a lot of injuries to it's seniors throughout the season and they still managed to be in the hunt for a play-off spot or dist title for the 3rd year straight.   The Seniors have stepped up as leaders with all of the injuries and the young players have stepped up when they are called in.  They find a way to win and if Denny can lead this team to a district title with 2 soph and a freshman starting and because of injuries, it may be one of his better years as a coach. JMO, but they are going to be tough the next few years. Dayton has about the whole team returning and are solid and no doubt a favorite to win district, and BH is the underdog this year, the name of the school does not win games the players do. BH players have found a way to win a lot of games this year, some ugly wins, but they find a way as a team to pull it out. BH will have to play great tomorrow and have no mistakes to win, cannot leave players in scoring position stranded if they have a chance to win, it will take a team effort to do it, Dayton is tough this year, but does make mistakes (Humble). At the end of the day they are high school kids and it is baseball, anything can happen. .

  12. Congrats to Barbers Hill 8th A team for winning district.  This group won it in 7th grade as well and have a 2 year record of 15-1. Had a 2 point defeat with 7 players out in one game with injuries( impact players).  Almost everyone healthy for the last game vs Dayton, and won 50-27 to take the title again.    A great group coming up.
  13. BH 7A  Undefeated

BH 8A, is 13-0 group of kids have never lost since starting Jr high.  Though after this week they have 7 starters out because of injuries.  When team is 100% they beat most teams by 30, now it will be a struggle to keep winning with all of the injuries. Losing a TE, 3 Rbs, 1 lineman, 2 Lbs hurts and all but two injuries did not happen on the field.
  14. Barbers Hill 7A - 22
    Gentry 7A- 6
    BH 7A 2-0

    Barbers Hill 8A- 12
    Gentry(Baytown) 8A- 8
8th A team Group of BH kids have not lost yet in Jr high play 10-0, though wins getting tougher. BH losing 8-6 with 3 seconds left in game and BH scored on a 45 yard pass play to win with 0 time left 12-8.
  15.   Barbers Hill is playing great, defense has been awesome, bats need to stay steady.  With 4 teams making the play-offs in each district and having 6 rounds before the State tournament, makes it tough.  As  Brenham passing the torch,  all teams have a long way too go before anyone can touch what Brenham has done over the last 25 years, it is amazing when you look at the number of wins and championships they have, to have a down year and make it 3 deep, most teams don't make it that far with the best teams that have come through their school.  Brenham will be back at the top next year again.  I dont see any team left with the pitching depth of BH or a defense like BH, if they can keep the sticks awake and stay steady at the plate they have a great chance of winning Region III.  BH has been fun to watch, just a lot of good players coming together and doing what it takes to win. Great all around TEAM..
  16. Bad thing about a 1 gamer is depth of talent does not matter, last year Nederland had more depth and if it would have been a one gamer last year BH would had advanced, but in a series the better over-all team won.  BH won game 1 last year at Lamar.    IMO with being a 1 gamer at Nederland it evened things up and there is no underdog in this one. BH has to come out and play solid. 2-1 BH, but would take 1-0 BH, Just win.
