  1. 1-8-1 for BH in last 10 games.   Going to be a short season for the HILL.    They have dropped 4 games in the 7th ,cannot finish, they make mistakes on routine plays, these are plays that they are not good enough to overcome.  They are young, but even youngsters should not be making these mistakes.   They will be good next year and year after, but they are better than what they are doing now.  They should be fighting for that 4th spot this year, but now it may be lost.  The boys varisty teams this year in BH has been sub par,no play-offs in any sport so far, class of 15 just was not real strong.  They need a closer in next years draft along with a outfielder and about 4 sticks. they really need that now.

  2. David Denny- Barbers Hill  5 years

Baseball is the same at BH as it is for most schools in SE Texas it comes 2nd to a sub par football program.  Baseball has gone 4 deep in the play-offs 2 out of 3 years, 2 deep last year, Football has not been in 2 years and working on 3,  I think the biggest frustration is losing good baseball asst coaches.  Seems only our HC can be dedicated to baseball, all the asst coaches have to have football as their 1st sport and baseball as a 2nd sport, so we lose some really good coaches, I feel for our HC, has to be frustrating,

  3. 5A - Crosby Returning 14+ Seniors, 7 All District/All Houston players including committed starting pitcher Austin Hearn/SFA and committed C/MIF/Utility Hunter Hearn/Angelina.

Agree Crosby should be the district favorite in 21-5A with all of the returners, but it won't be a cake walk.  KWP is always tough and Barbers Hill returns all but 3 starters and 4/3 all dist/all Houston. Dayton brings back a very good pitcher, 21-5A swept 22-5A last year in the 1st round  which is tough to do,22-5A has always been baseball rich, 21-5A will be a tough district again and will be tough for the next couple of seasons with the strong under-classman,  Pre season rankings are there just to get poeple talking, they mean nothing,

  4. KWP ranked 17th in 5A, 8 returners, Barbers Hill mentioned in the next 10 returning entire pitching staff minus one and 4 every inning starters that were all Dist,.   Goose Creek was mentioned in the next 10 to round out  teams for 21 and 22 5A.   Crosby not mentioned but has everyone back from a good season and good team   College Station ranked #1 has (3 D1 pitchers,TCU,Texas A&M,and Florida)  , Brenham ranked 6th., not where you start, will see in May how good these predictions are.

  5. Who has who coming back and will it be Crosby, Barbers Hill, Kingwood Park and Dayton again grabbing the 4 spots or is there any other teams in the running ? Crosby looks to have everyone back, will be very tough. Barbers Hill has 5 starters back, but will mostly be underclassman, Dayton has a very good pitcher back with a few others and KWP is always in the mix.  All teams in this district made it at least to 2nd round last year and KWP went the deepest.  Should be some good match ups.

  6. There has to be a big push by parents to get it.  They were hesitant to bring in softball and volleyball at different times, but parents pushed to get those sports.  The same thing has to happen to see soccer come in.

Hard to think Barbers Hill without softball or volleyball, Girl sports are always at the top at BH,  The only sport Boys do well in year after year is baseball.   It is a shame that parents have to push for programs like softball, volleyball and maybe soccer, when those are the sports that they do well in and actually win year after year.  I dont have kids that play soccer, but know there are kids that would play and do well, I would bet have more success than the football team,

  7.   I see youth soccer fields packed in Barbers Hill , why do they not offer the sport in High School ?   If BH has money as everyone claims, seems like it would field a Boy's and Girl's team, who knows it could open doors for scholarships for kids and get more kids involved in school athletics.  Just always wondered why BH has not supported this sport.

  8. I heard the a DP coach was going to take over at BH a month ago, but have not heard that Gage was leaving for sure or any kind of search opening for applicants, so assumed it was a rumor. But I keep hearing it more and more.   Seems like a search would be opened up for others to apply.   As far as comparing BH to DP as a place to work,   I think DP has a AD that is not a coach, so the incentive may be that he will be the AD and HC.   Not sure what DP has done over the last 10 years ?  How deep have they been in the playoffs since Massey has been there ?    Dont know much about Massey's coaching style or how long he would have before retiring,  ?  Who knows, maybe they will open the search up on this forum.

  9. Barbers Hill

Trevor Kitchens- 1st team All Dist as a Soph 2nd base, going into his Jr year, kid can hit

Bryce Bonnin-  District Newcomer of the year as a Freshman, will be a soph, was OF last year ,looks to end up at SS this year

Bryan Taylor- LHP/OF  should be BH #1 this year as a Jr had a good soph year on varsity

Rhett McCall-  3rd/Catcher ,varsity player as a freshman last year, looking to have a break out year in his soph year

BH could end up with 6 or 7 underclassman starting this season, all solid players

  10. Very cut throat business and it is a business.  Wish every kid that is a D1 prospect would go through some kind of recruiting seminar.  Unless it is the school of your dreams, never commit early,  takes you off the market (though you can change and it happens all the time) but for the most part it takes you out of the picture.  The school may be bound on a early verbal, but when you commit early it does not commit the school to the amount of the scholarship and they can fall back on a preferred walk on. Happens all the time in baseball, kids commit early and then right before signing day they find out it is a walk on offer or the min of 25%.    Do research on the program, talk to other players and if possible ex-players, the only universities that you know you will get money when you commit early is Navy, Army and Air Force, everyone is on a full ride.  If a school pressures a kid to commit early, that is a red flag, if they want you bad enough they will wait. Know how many scholarships they have and how many they have offered, especially in your position.  Do your homework, because it may leave you scrambling if you don't.

  11. BH does have some nice sophmore talent coming up. If Gage puts them in the playoffs this year I think the next 2 years BH will have pretty good teams. Couple of the sophmores had an uncle that was a Florida State commit I believe back in the 90's. Lot of tradition around the baytown bh area. Couple of freshman look really good to.

I agree the soph class has some very good talent, a lot like the 2012 class, they will be very competitive in every sport ,  They won district in football both years in Jr High went 15-1, won disrict in basketball and track.  That group could throw and run  a very versital group, and played great defense ( fun to watch).   If that whole group is healthy and they all play ( some picking other sports), they will be very tough their Sr year.   Just wish they would run other formations and mix it up, but,,,,

  12. When was the last time King beat BH ?  King has a good class of ahtletes this year, a whole lot better than BH this year, but dont see this being a yearly beat down.  Dont think Price beat BH, his athletes with ability beat BH this year and he got the win vs BH.   On another note, the score may have been a little different if BH ran another offense, but the out come would had been the same, just do not have the athletes King has this year. Played them closer than most this year, but same result,   BH has some decent underclassman players on freshman and JV and some younger player on varsity, if they mix the  offense up a little (or a lot) and find a QB. Don't see any clear cut QB coming up, but they will be competitive the next couple of seasons,

  13.
Personally after being in and out of SETX threads and discussions for several years now I could careless what OUTSIDERS think of the past Crosby football regime, team, present regime, or football team. You know why?? Cause Haters gonna Hate. Let me explain. When your program is down and out they're irrelevant and nobody wants to talk about em but when you're the King of the mountain everyone's taking pop shots at ya and wants to be relevant. For example: anytime a team shows the slightest inkling of being on the up and up who are they now compared to by the armchair expert QBs of SETX.com?? Crosby. Success breeds jealousy and envy and there's a whole lot of that swirling around here since this vast emergence of talent and athleticism has once again found an address on FM 2100. So make no mistake, I ain't no joke, and I have a vested interest in this team so I'm gonna chime in whenever I feel our program, kids, or metropolis is being wronged. I do find it funny that some threaders take offense to my comments yet turn around and try to be as clever or articulate. All I can say is sorry. Sorry that I can be more creative and more educated but such is life so deal with it. That being said GO COOGS beat the Wildcats!!!!!

I ain't no joke, LOL,    Yes, you are more educated ;)

  14.  It may be just my observation but there is a lot of cushion between BH dbs and the WRs.  Puts the advantage on the WR when they have more speed and gives them a chance to make 1 move and get open. Just a arm chair coach, but would consider playing 1 yd off the wr and jamming them on the line to at least slow them down and disrupt the route and give D line more time to put pressure. JMO, but playing 10 yds off the wr is not working and have noticed this for a while, but what do I know, just a washed up old ex college player that now coaches a fantasy team.

  15. Just wondering if she plays summer softball as well and how she adjust from 1 to the other , I hear softball scholarships are better than baseball as far as percentage of amount paid out in the scholarship so just wonder if that will keep her in baseball or go to softball. Interesting and not a common situation. Look forward to seeing where she endes up, pretty amazing story.. Sounds like a movie idea.
