  1. Regardless of the school, and regardless of the record, I would be concerned for any kid throwing that much. I have seen it result in a kid that had NO more strenth left in an arm that was throwing serious heat. Does it mean that we don't like Dewey? Heck no! The kid was a battler all the way through the game...he fought all the way...but the "cupboard was bare" evidence came in the 6th and 7th, when he had given all of his 110% and was still trying to find more. At that point, if you are prepared, you bring in a fresh arm. Even after he got the bases loaded, he was still left in, then...BAM bases loaded triple. I can't blame Dewey...he gave everything, but he should have had a closer ready...there wans't even anyone warming up...
  2. again, repeteive strain on the joints that comprise the pitching arm are what harms a pitcher. In LL, we had rules that prevented a kid from throwing every game, but you still had kids that ended up with hurt arms, and destroyed futures because the star pitcher was rode like a cheap carnival pony. Y'all can ride this kid to death, and screw up his future if you want. But before you do, at least look up Tommy Johns on the Web, and tell me that this kid isn't going to be affected. Additionally, the growth plates in the arm and shoulder are stll in a growing phase. But hey, as long as the Broncs have a chance for a win, who cares right? I know that sounds harsh, but this young man is the one who is going to suffer the physical consequences of the desire to win. In every Bronc fan defense that I have read, there has not been one that deals with the potential damage this young man may suffer. So, Bronc fans, when this kid's arm goes POP, and y'all want to blame someone for that...look in the mirror...after all, you are the ones who said itwas "no big deal"...
  3. Now, before the Dayton fans think this is sour grapes, I'm from LCM. We won, so it is not a swipe at Dayton for beating us. Mr. Dewey threw a great game. He is a strong pitcher, and that is a good thing. However, he should be the lead pitcher in a pitching staff, not the staff in itself. So you guys know, yep, I'm a dad, and yep, my son pitches, and yep, I've researched Tommy Johns injuries. In the predictions thread on this game, one of the posters wea jumped on when he mentioned that Dewey might get hurt pitching this much. He was told that "since he hadn't pitched" he had no knowledge of what was going on, and was told that Dewey goes through a strength training regimen. The "Tommy Johns" type of injury has nothing to do with strength...it has to do with repetetive motion of the shoulder and elbow. The more motion and strain you put on those areas, the faster the particular areas wear out. That is why pitch counts are so important, and that is why ball teams have pitching staffs, whether, high school, college, or even the pros. Dayton NEEDS to develop more pitcher for their future. Sadly, it's too late in the season for that this year. But to prevent a recurrence of putting a kid's future in danger by oveuse, the coaches need to find at least 2 or 3 prospects that can do the job. Now the balk call on us? even some of you guys on the Dayton side had a "what the hell" look on your face...
  4. I see the results of a bad start in non district and district play boiling over for the "Stangs, and the result of beleiving the hype for the "Cards. 'Stangs come together as a team against a city and district rival...bringing everything they have, and taking BC 9-10 innings...with a final score of... WOS-3 BC-2 hey, who knows...it can happen...ask Nederland...
  5. JV from LCM...definitely a HOSS!
  6. I've bought both wood and metal (the last one being an Exo). Of course, as luck would have it...my son likes to pitch...no guys, a real traditional "bring in the DH" pitcher...so the bats are moot... However... You see the metal bats all over LL and other youth baseball organizations, with the -10, -9, etc drops. I think this enables a mediocre hitter to not worry about mechanics because he hs swinging a light bat, and getting results, what with all the gases some of these bats hav ein them... In high school, you have less of an advantage, as the drop is now a rule -3, so it is not an advantage weight wise. But technology has made the ball come off faster after being hit. This results in less reaction time for infielders, but not by much. The thing is, while you can take advantage of the technology, what happens when you get into college, where there is a move away from the metal, back to wood? And what of the guy who gets into the minors and the bigs, who see his HS stats be percieved with an asterisk * because he never swung a wood bat, and now can't hit as well? I guess it boils down to...where are you going, and do you know what you will need when you get there?... As to the expense of wood bats...you can buy 5 wood Noconas for the cost of 1 Exo. But what of the kid who can't afford $370. Do we not let him play the game?... As far as program budgets...I haven't seen a school buy a bat...or a glove...so that wouldn't be a factor...
  7. HAs the location of the LCM-Central game been changed to LCM? Coop?
  8. A lot of times, teams in the same district won't play each other in tournamnet play, because they will see each otther in the regular season...
  9. LCM-10 Huntsville-3 Huntsville scored in the top of the 6th, and had the score 10-6, but the Bears scored 1 with no outs to make it 11-6 when time ran out, reverting the score to the last complete inning played. Get this...Huntsville batter hits a fair ball that travels into the "tarp tube" on the left field side. LCM's left fielder holds up both arms signaling that the ball had gone into the tube and stopped inside. Umpire never calls a time out, indicating that the tube is "part of the field" and therefore ball is live. Can someone explain this to me? I thought those infield cover tubes were dead ball territory, if the ball stayed inside them...
  10. Sam Moore is a class act. When he has gone to the LCM games, he hangs back, and doesn't try to interject himself into any kind of tips or coaching.
  11. Love baseball... Torn ACL, fat, overweight, can catch 1 out of 5 flyballs hit to me, but running for one...forget it! Oh, and batting...please...don't make me laugh! That being said, I hope you find the good quality guys that you are searching for. I know there is a lot of former 'Stangs and Bears in these parts that were good ball players...hopefully, they'll call you. I can put the word out...
  12. Mustang Blue shows the true side of the "sore loser". The thing is, he discredits his own team when he says that LCM has not played any "quality" competition. After reading this, he will hide behind a "WOS is a football school" comment. Funny, I didn't know they had magnet schools for football... . All I know is that the young men on the team have not been arrogant, and have gotten to the record they have by hard work and practice. Not everyone of them have gone through Sam's great program, but almost all of them came up through either Pony Ball or Little League. I have seen them put in the hours and the effort, from the starters to the guys who might not get a lot of playing time, but are still part of the Bear varsity team. And that is the point...Coach Griff builds a TEAM, not a couple of stars here and there. As to the Hip Hop comment...I have to agree. I feel sorry for Coach Rivers, because the attitude with the ball caps is too well entrenched...out on the street...hey, go ahead on, look like K-Fed...but on the field...represent, look your best.
  13. I know I don't have a dog in this hunt, but to respond to the comment made above about "BCLL parents" deciding that OF couldn't play as a team... According to LL International rules, all players enter the draft, and can be picked up by any team...there are no "reserved players" according to which feeder town they come from. The only time this rule is suspended is when a coach has a child, and then that child can play on the father's team (which creates additional conflicts sometimes, but). If a child from Orangelfield is a good player, then the child can be picked up by any team. This creates a more balanced league structure, and not "monster teams" which dominate, while other teams struggle with average players who are trying to get better. I don't know about any other youth ball leagues, but the rule was and has always been that the kids go through the draft, instead of a coach "recruiting" a team.
  14. Pitchers will come around...that is the point of the scrimmages, and the tournaments. But I don't see a real defeciency in LCM's pitchers...I see some good ball hitting by other clubs...(or are you saying that HJs hitting came because they can only hit weak pitchers? I would heartily disagree...J-Rod from HJ is an absolute beast!)
  15. Right score...wrong team winning...LCM wins 8-6 after 5 innings...
  16. I was 2 off...LCM by 8
  17. Defensive side of the ball... Joseph Viator from LCM...he was an absolute beast, and he was either doing the tackling or in on the tackle on everyother play. Darius Bob also returns for the Bears, along with many more on the defensive side of the ball. Since I am a defensive football kind of guy, I'll let someone else talk about the offense... ;D
  18. In answer to the districting question about LL... BCLL now covers WOS and LCM areas as to the Little League system. The reason for this is that both the WESCO park, and Twin County LL have ceased to exist. This was due to a few factors: 1. A strong Pony ball league in the Orange area; 2. A lack of a good parental support system for the LL parks previously mentioned. I was president of Twin County LL for 3 years, and follwing me was a great lady who kept the park going on her sweat and sometimes cash out of her own pocket to pay for fundraising supplies. Last year, 37 parents or sets of parents, took candy to sell, and did not return either the candy or the money. It was this kind of "welfare" attitude that doomed both parks. The attitude that "the Little League owes me sonething'...I was actually told by a parent who didn't want to help with any upkeep or fundraising that "they had paid their $50", and weren't going to help with anything (except for grumbling and complaining). I also paid the same cost for my son to play, and I helped....but I digress... if someone wants to play in the LL system in the Orange area, they will play for BCLL. Orange Youth is part of the Pony League system, which is NOT LL. (Little League is a licensed trademark, and only chartered leagues within the system may use the term "Little League".) As to the scrimmage...you don't get better by somebody treating you like a baby. Props to the Lumberton Raiders and their fans for not coming on here and bemoaning that scrimmage. It was as it should have been...a lesson learned. Though they may have scored a lot on the Raiders, I don't doubt that the Redbirds respect them for staying out there the whole way.
  19. gotta agree...in a scrimmage, the goal is not the score, but rahter to gauge where your hitters, pitchers, infiled and outfield are at. The reason most scrimmages are kept going is to allow a team that has a lot of kids pitching a full inning or more of work. Now a game has a mercy rule in effect, which I beleive is 10 after 5 (or 4 1/2 if the team behing is the visiting team batting first)
  20. Swami says LCM by 6
  21. Talked to one of the LCM JV players... LCM-14 WOS-3
  22. Very true...Jerry, is that you?...
  23. So does that mean that LCM doesn't do so well in football because 95% of the kids in the Orange County Cobras go to WOS (props, Coach Bim ;D)...come on...you had WESCO, and y'all let it die...there was no community support for it. There was also Twin County, where some of the kids from the bancroft area played at...same thing. At times, it felt like a baby sitting service, rather than a league. To have good players, you have to have PARENTAL support to get those kids to practice and games. Memorial is a great organziation, but the LL organizations became like the "welfare" leagues, where parents wanted a whole lot for a little money, and NEVER wanted to help with field upkeep, maintenance, or other things that Memorial EXPECTS out of their parents. You may think I had kids at Memorial, but I lived the LL experience up through Senior Leauge. I worked while others sat in the stands complaining...so if there are no leagues to develop talent...blame yourselves...you let them die...
  24. 1st game jitters on the starting infield...as to Andre and Earl, that's only 2 guys...and neither is a pitcher. Andre might be, but that still leave the ponies shallow in that position. Remember, that even if Earl had been there in center...he still would have been looking at the ball going over the fence at least 4 times. And he can't cover the WHOLE outfield. It's not a matter of 2 or 3 outstanding athletes, it's a matter of a whole team of good athletes.
  25. okay...so my prediction was 8 off...congrats to the Bears...keep it rollin' fellas!
