LC-M vs. West Brook Scrimmage Thread
elhector1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
13-7 LCM LCM threw D. Brown, B. Jones, T. Thompson, S. Cloeren, S. Waddell, T. Barry, S. Maldonado, and D. Briseno. Shane Waddell went yard, as did Stefan Cloeren. 2 Bruins went yard as well. -

I have coached in the Junior and Senior League system, as well as being a league official with Little League. The reason that the tournaments start late is that many leagues are waiting for high school sports to finish, so they don't conflict with that. I think the kids made a great decision, and I think the football coach will regret his. -

Colmensinielfan...tell your pitchers there will be no wild pitches thrown...the backstop @ Woodville is so deep, you need breadcrumbs left on the gruond to find your way back to the catcher's box!... ;D -
Coach Griff-but why you ask? The "cupboard is bare" scenario-graduated pretty much his whole team from last year...has 1 returning starter..and 3 other senior in a team pretty much filled with juniors and sophomores. Wins 22-4A district championship... Overcomes the Forum nay-sayers-If you were to go back and look at the history of this forum, you would see that up until the last scheduled district game there were a lot of "non-LCM" doubters...again...wins 22-4A district championship for a second straight year...

Thanks guys, that shows some real class and strength of character on your part to come in and congratulate us, instead of disappearing from the forum. I will be rooting for you tomorrow... -
We have a core group of moms that bring excitement, fun and hilarity to EVERY game, home or away...LCM probably brings the biggest contingent of fans to away games, and fills up the stannds at home games. Loud and boisterous don't even begin to cover it...!!!

Ancient Ursine wisdom.... Speak softly...and carry a big stick! Pirates and 'Dogs...who do I want?...either will do fine, but I gotta go more with my Orange County boys...the Pirates.... -
I think we confuse the "craziest dugout" with a disrespectful dugout. You can have fun at the game without being a jerk. Yelling for your guy to get a hit, putting on the rally caps, all add to the flavor of the game. It's pretty much been lost by the high dollar professionals who have no concept of team, but are just cogs in the machine. High dollar tasteless baseball. Give me a high school game anyday. "Base Riiiiip!...Come on kid!" Now if you want to "show respect" how about not having the whole team go out and rub a home run in the pitcher's face? Oh...some percieved shows of disrespect are all right then? Please...Let's let the kids have fun at the game...they will have a whole bunch of serious upon graduation...

that's cool...I like it when the fans go support the kids, no matter what the record...and I love that there are folks who aren't so "into themsleves" taht they can't have a little fun...

LC-M vs. Dayton Predictions For Friday?
elhector1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
LCM probably has the greater bull pen depth...But taking the pitchers out of the equation, LCM's defense is on an upswing, where Dayton's has struggled.. LCM-7 Dayton-4 -
what...no takers? We win hands down...?

Gotta go with the Bear fans...from the good natured ribbing of the "blues" to the "baseball mamas" and the crazy atmosphere, we definitely have the good fan base. Stats? Here ya go... Away game fan penetration: 65% meaning that 65% of our fans go to away games Spontaneous dancing at the drop of a hat: With our "baseball mommas" we have consistently outdanced our competition 3 to 1... Opera "oooooohhhhhhhh" singing: No one else has it... Supporting our kids, even when it's not our kid: 100% Gotta love them bears!!!!!!! ;D

In keeping with some of the "tongue in cheek" offerings like "JV All District" threads, I put forth the following...who do you nominate?

Best Middle Infielder in SETX?
elhector1 replied to wg88pitcher's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I am not going to dreide Murphy and Ferguson here, as they seenm to have a lot of votes...mine will be a "home" post... Hearn from LCM is a proven commodity...he has adapted well to his new team, and is consistently a force to be reckoned with in 224A... However... Jon Gunn is one of those "whoa, where did he come from" talents. In almost every game, balls hit anywhere close to him have been snagged, and a potential base hit denied to many a batter. He as well, has been a consistent force at 2B for the Bears. At the plate as well, he is one of the best 9 hole hitters in the district, if not in the area. -
FAIR COVERAGE - Beaumont Enterprise
elhector1 replied to homerunbetty's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Gotta agree with Bearbacker. The Beaumont Enterprise is a regional paper, rather than a local one, because it is sold in the region of SE Texas. You don't see the Leader of the MC Chronicle sold in Beaumont, because all these are truly local papers. However, i kind of know how you feel. We have the County Record here, and it should be the Bridge City Record, because BC sports is always leading the front page of the sports section. It could be because BC has a hoss of a publicity person. Sometimes, that makes the difference. And, as we can see by the LACK of coverage of a national championship, some sports are downright disrespected by sportswriters. Maybe, the school needs to have a contact person to report scores to the newspaper. Some coaches do it, but I think a central clearinghouse for all sports information for the school (not the district) would help get the kids names up there... The television stations lead with the Lamar game, followed by the WB game. I remember because I was watching coverage of LCM. -

Actually Proud, LC-M was in the THSBCA poll at #7 in the April 2nd poll, but dropped out in the April 9th poll. As to the Bear fans being proud of the team, if you think about it, it pays a compliment to your team that it is considered a "team to beat". I have seen the preparation in the PNLL, as I was president of TCLL for three years, and it was tough to go play at PNLL. Our kids have also prepared, so it is a real game when these two tangle. I don't think we need to snipe at each other... -

I playfully call Jon "Beartrap' in addition to the "chick-chick" sound the announcer adds to his name. If there is anything he can get to, he does, and he usually comes up firing to where it needs to go. He is also probably one of the best, if not the best, nine hole hitter in the district. Polite young man, doesn't have a big head, despite his succcess. Another kid that didn't get the hype early in the season, but has produced for the Bears. -

PNG Proud and MidCOuntyMadness, Thank you...you all are truly class acts. As for the game, who needs nail clippers, when you have two good baseball teams in action? I don't think my fingernails will ever grow back... -

I apologize to the fans of both sides for allowing myself to "waller" in the mud yesterday...but...sometimes it feels dang good to stoop to the lower level, especially when the other teams' fans deride your kids, on your side of the fence. Now does it make it right? Naw, it's still wrong, but sometimes our humanity gets the best of us. I appreciate the Bears "quieting" (shutting up) the "vociferous" (loud a...ummm..."donkey") PNG fan on THEIR side of the dugout with what mattered most...good ball play... In addition...to fans on both sides...be loud, be loud as you want to...but don't call the kids playing the game "no good", or "lousy", or "losers", screaming those put downs out loud. These are HIGH SCHOOL athletes, not getting paid to play the game. Now if you go to the 'Stros game, them boys are getting paid millions, go ahead on then...but not at a high school ahtlete. -
You know, why do we have to dog one, to promote another...? Going through this thread, I see a lot of "well so and so doesn't even come close to so and so"...if you want to promote your guy, fine...let us know his stats, and then we can see how many agree by posting their agreement and such. There is no need to bring down another guy to make yours look better... As for my vote, which of course is biased since I know him, and probably don't know the others...It goes to Jake Rowell. Consistent behind the plate, he has to adjust to at least 4, if not more, different pitchers styles and mannerisms. At the plate...well...numbers speak for themselves. Jake can break open a game with a hit at any given time. Off the field? Jake is a polite young man, who doesn't have a big head. Sometimes players who are good feel that they no longer have to be polite. Jake is one of the ones who feels that being polite and courteous is a part of his nature, and that bodes well for his future at the next level.

Way to go 'Stangs! Earl, Jacoby, Ryyan, Terry, Kendall, Jeremy, Billy, Bubba, Andre (I think)...all y'all...way to come through...! -
I have taken to saying, from the stands,...come on blue, you know they always look pretty from here...kind of twists the blue's tail, but in a fun loving way...I respect that they are out there for very little pay... As far as LL goes...LL states that the umps should be a volunteer, taken AND TRAINED according to LL rules...but try to find one of these "armchair youth sports semi-pros" to actually go through the training. Naaawwwww...they like to call the game from the stands...that way they can impress everyone around them with the sheer volume of baseball knowledge...hold on...HACK, CoUGH...sorry, had to bring up a sarcasm hairball. My idea when I was a part of Little League, was that parents would get a "complaint card"...For every hour of service that they completed, be it field maintenance, concession stand, or umping, they would get one complaint. Want another complaint?...Serve another hour! Back to the subject at hand... Little League has a training program, pretty extensive, that is provided for by LL International. However, it takes parents to volunteer...and I don't see them,.... Pony Ball is different as they have different rules in effect. HS...most of the TASO guys do a good job...

actually scouts...5 years as a Little League administrator, with classes and courses on injury prevention such as "Tommy Johns". In addition, look at the resources on the Net with reference to Tommy Johns injuries... I would like to make a request of every Dayton fan on this board...a pledge of $500 college money per person, IF Mr. Dewey's arm is damaged . You see, Dewey is giving his all for his school...IF he does get injured, will all of you step up and give your all for Dewey? Step up folks...show your real "money where your mouth is" support for this young man, who obviously has a great deal of pride in teh Broncs. That is not a sarcastic statement. He is a team player, willing to put it all on the line for his team...are you all willing to back him in a college degree if his arm goes?
