need to promote games, a lot of schools have "pink matches-dig for the cure" or if there is a big rivarly game that could be promoted just on that.....and of course winning helps a lot...ive been to plenty of hs vb matches that were jam packed with fans, so i know it is possible
How can we promote particular games when I can't even get folks to give me the schedule of their games? I've had a list of schedules, for a season that is scheduled to begin in a little over a week, that I have not been able to get on my own (with the exception of the Evadale schedule which was pm'd to me as I was doing the original posting) for almost a week now and I have gotten one response.
You didn't put Brenham on your list of schedules needed, and I understand why, but if you want too, here it it is..... [Hidden Content] It's a start, and maybe it can get things going. It's promoting, even if it's not what was requested.

No doubt La Marque is extremely talented. They are one of the most athletic teams in the state, if not the most athletic. I would put them between 5 & 8 if they had the same staff as last year, because they return alot. You're right, that somtimes change is good, but after a runner up finish last year, there's not much room for a better finish. You add that, with new coaching, it will be very tough to have the same amount of success. Usually a coaching change, takes time to get use to and there is no margin for error in 24-4A. -

Sweed & Collins were both really good, but WR is position that Brenham has always been deep in, so who knows what the future holds. -
Brenham isnt overrated. IMO they are UNDERRATED. i will say this though, Cubs will never -----> NEVER have a better WR than Sweed or Collins IMO
I would say Brenham belongs about where they are. I wouldn't put them higher than 4, or lower than 8. If I had to pick a team that got snubbed, it's Smithson Valley. Here's my top 25.... 1. Aledo 2. Lake Travis 3. Denton Ryan 4. Smithson Valley 5. Cedar Park 6. Tyler John Tyler 7. Brenham 8. Dallas Highland Park 9. Stephenville 10. Everman 11. Waco Midway 12. Humble 13. La Marque 14. Pearland Dawson 15. Kerrville Tivy 16. Wylie 17. Dayton 18. San Antonio Alamo Hieghts 19. Corpus Christi Calallen 20. Corsicana 21. Friendswood 22. Houston Stratford 23. Sherman 23. Port Lavoca Calhoun 24. Cedar Park Vista Ridge 25. Boerne Champion I would have La Marque higher if not for the coaching change. -
Brenham? too high
Brenham is loaded with D1 talent, and is 23-4 in the last 2 years. (Including a runner up finish to a very good Aledo team) IMO, Brenham has the best defense in the state. Including the best interior lineman in the state, in Malcolm Brown... Also one of the best LB's in the state, in Tim Cole. Our offense won't be too bad either. While we have a question mark at QB, he's being protected by a D1 o-lineman and has a D1, 4 year starter at HB, in Troy Green, to take the pressure off of him and pick up blocks. If you remember how good Edwards was at WR last year, we have another WR this year that's just as good, if not better, in Tre'mund Moore. If Brenham is overrated, who should replace them? -
We all know you have to have talent to win but some of games are won and lost by Coaching. It will be interesting to watch happens in Ennis in the coming years. Texas High Norton has a good staff and does a good job. Not much of a Katy fan but Joseph must do a good job beause the record speaks for itself. What really speaks volumes is for a staff that not only knows xs and os but for the kids after they move on. Good topic.
I'm not a big fan of Katy either, but i have to agree. They do have a very solid coaching staff. One of my friends live a couple houses down from Joseph, so I've talked to him a couple times. He's very humble man, who obviously knows what he's doing.

The Brenham coaching staff ain't too bad. ;) Most of our coaching staff is from Brownwood, and played for and won championships under legendary coach Gordon Wood.

Former Cub named assistant at Rice HOUSTON - Former Brenham High School baseball and football player Clay Van Hook has joined the Rice baseball coaching staff, Rice head coach Wayne Graham announced on Tuesday. “Clay has been coaching a few years and he’s from a baseball family who has been a student of the game his whole life,†Graham said in a statement from Rice University. “His work-ethic is off the scale. He’s been able to get the most out of his own ability and he will be able to do the same with the players around him. “His father (former Blinn College head coach Kyle Van Hook) was an assistant coach for me at San Jacinto for two years, and we won the national championship in both years (1989 and ‘90). The Van Hook family and I are 2-0 in winning national championships,†Graham quipped. While an assistant at McNeese State, Van Hook worked with infielders, helped with the team’s hitting, and served as the Cowboys’ third base coach. He had a role in recruiting and helped MSU post its first winning record in four years in his very first season with the program in 2010. He played one season at Navarro College before becoming a three-year letterman at the University of Texas. Van Hook earned second team all-Big 12 honors and was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the major league draft. He earned his degree at Texas in 2008 while serving one season as a student-coach. In addition to his on-field duties at Rice, Van Hook will take over the administration of the Owls’ Youth Baseball Camps. The Owls (42-21) won the C-USA Tournament title and regular season co-championship, the 16th straight year for Rice baseball to claim a league championship. The program also posted its 17th consecutive season with at least 40 wins and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th straight year.

Bear Down By Greg Tepper // TexasFootball.com Watch out, District 17-4A: John Bolfing’s Montgomery Bears mean business. Bolfing led the Bears to the state quarterfinals a year ago, by far the best of his six years at the helm of Montgomery. And despite needing to replace 14 starters, Bolfing’s squad, ranked No. 24 in the Texas Football preseason 4A rankings, is ready for the challenge of 2011 – and reaching even higher goals. Coach Bolfing recently took some time to answer some of DCTF’s questions. DCTF: What was different about last year that made the 2010 team reach those new heights? Coach Bolfing: It was not something that just happened overnight. Since we took over in 2005 we have been building on the successes of the teams that came before, and we will continue to strive to do that. Last year’s team combined two very good classes (both went undefeated as freshmen). We had good talent at every position and had a lot of depth. Most people probably don’t realize we very seldom had all of our starters healthy for our big games. Whenever someone went down someone else stepped in and did a great job. However, the thing that set last year’s team apart from some others was it had great leadership. I have been coaching 23 years and I can look back at the most successful teams I have coached and that is the one common characteristic they have. They worked hard and expected those around them to work hard. They held each other accountable to a very high standard. DCTF: With success, of course, come expectations. Are the raised expectations something you’ve preached to your team during the offseason? Coach Bolfing: Our expectations stay the same each and every year. Work hard, do the right thing and use every bit of your God-given ability to become the best you can become. If you do these things and respect your opponent the scoreboard will take care of itself. DCTF: You’re losing RB Leroy Dobbins, but you’ve got a surplus of weapons still, including WR Devon Gasaway and RB Tevin House. Do you expect the offense to be as potent this year as it was last year? Coach Bolfing: It is remarkable to me how consistent we have been offensively, statistically speaking, through the years. I feel like we have an offensive system that is flexible and that our players understand and can execute. We had some very good players graduate including Leroy, but we feel we have some very good players who will step into “fill their shoes.†Tevin is very capable. We won three games last year with him as our starter while Leroy recuperated. Between Gasaway and Alex Peppe we have over 80 receptions and 21 receiving TD’s coming back. Ty Taliaferro will step in at QB to replace three year starter, Tyler Bolfing. I am expecting Ty to bring a new element to our offense. Behind Braden Meador and Grant Wisenbaker I feel like we should still be able to move the ball very well. DCTF: You’ve got a senior-laden defense, including LB Henderson Watkins and the curiously small but devastatingly effective DT Jesse Hooper. How important is experience going to be your defense’s success? Coach Bolfing: We rotated a lot of players on defense last season, so although we don’t have a lot of starters returning we do have a lot of experience. Scott Herman, our Defensive Coordinator, has done a tremendous job with our defense. There is no substitute for experience. We can coach, watch video, practice, etc. but until you have been on the field and done it, you never know how you will perform. We really like the aggressiveness of this group of seniors including Watkins and Hooper. Cade Scott will help shore up our secondary and our defensive ends, Jeffrey Elliott and Parker Kuehn should play key roles. DCTF: This is your first public school head coaching job after working at Reicher and Waco Christian. How have you noticed the public school game differing from private school? Coach Bolfing: I have been away from the private schools now for 15 years. From my experience the greatest difference is the number of teams at each classification and the vast number of quality teams at any classification in public schools. In the private schools you never knew who might show up since there are no attendance boundaries, but you also never knew who might leave because they wanted to attend their public school or maybe they couldn’t afford the tuition. As far as coaching, the game is the same. We play by the same rules on the field and have the same challenges. I have coached against some great coaches and players in both private and public schools and have enjoyed my experiences in both. DCTF: In your opinion, what makes Texas high school football so special? Coach Bolfing: What other event brings people from all walks of life and different communities together in one place? In my opinion, there is nothing like Texas High School Football. I know when I am finished with my coaching career I will still be attending games. Every week in the fall entire schools and towns come together to put on a show, “the greatest show on earth,†Texas high school football.
There is no doubt that Brenham will have a great team ! Mr. Brenham fan I wouldn't worry about 17 4a as much as hooking up with the Bronco's in the early playoff rounds .This years Bronco's might be the most "Dangerous" team since 2008 ! You know what they say " On any given Day " ~~~~~~~~~ I can't wait till kick off ! ~~~~~~~ PS " No Green Shoes "
Lol. Come on now! Everybody loves the green shoes. ;D

Detailed predictions for 17-4A.... (Soulja, I know how you like these) D2 #1 1. Brenham- (10-0) It's pretty hard to pick against a team that has so much D1 talent and experience. Brenham has been pretty successful as of late. The one thing Brenham is lacking is a QB, but to compensate, they feature one of the best defensive units in the state. Brenham has a lot to prove, after last years shocking early exit from the playoffs. This team is talented enough to make a run at state, if everybody stays on the same page. While I do think Aledo is better than Brenham, I can't remember us losing to the same team twice in a row. There's one chink in Brenham's armor.... No experience at QB. From what I saw out of him last year, im not very impressed. You know what they say though.... "Offense sells tickets, defense wins games" Offense: HB Troy Green 6'1" 196lbs 4.5, OL Adrian Bellard 6'5" 300lbs 5.5, WR Tre'mund Moore 6'0" 170lbs 4.5 Defense: DT Malcolm Brown 6'3" 292lbs 4.8, OLB Tim Cole 6'1" 216lbs 4.6, CB Robert Felder 5'10" 170lbs 4.4 D1 #1 2. Stratford- (8-2) This is just their 2nd year in 4A, and they wern't bad last year. They have a new high-profile QB that has transferred from a private school. They gave Brenham all they wanted last year, but this year they will be traveling to ice creamland for the last game of the year. The new QB better be ready, cuz I can assure you he hasn't seen anything like the Cub defense. Malcolm Brown will be all over the new QB, all night. IMO, Stratford will be a lot better than last year, and will make some noise in the playoffs if they can avoid a 1st round meeting with Humble. Offense- QB Jeremiah Briscoe 6'4" 205lbs 4.9, HB Brian Skulski 5'8" 165lbs 4.5, OL Jimmy Hodges 6'3" 235lbs Defense- SS A.J. Justice 6'1" 185lbs 4.6, DE Jarvis Pruitt 6'3" 215lbs 4.7, CB Kelvin Rainey 6'2" 185lbs 4.5 D1 #2 3. Montgomery- (8-2) They will be good once again, but IMO they just lost too much to challenge for the district title. While they do return their 2 best WR's and have an ok defense, they lost Dobbins and Bolfing. House is a good HB, but he's no Dobbins. Winner of the Stratford/Montgomery game will most likely be the D1 #1 seed, and can avoid a first round game against Humble. Something they do have going for them, is that they get Brenham at home. This team has size and strength in abundance. Offense- HB Tevin House 5'7" 185lbs 4.5, WR Devon Gasaway 6'1" 170lbs 4.5, LT Braden Meador 6'5" 280lbs 5.3 Defense- DT Jesse Hooper 5'7" 170lbs 4.9, LB Henderson Watkins 5'11" 211lbs 4.7, CB Herbert House 5'6" 155lbs 4.5 D2 #2 4. Magnolia West- (7-3) They have improved every year, including last years playoff run. They nearly defeated Willis in a high scoring shoot out last year. They also feature one of the Houston area's best HB's. They get Brenham in Magnolia this year, with a chance to avenge last years 55-0 beating. They will battle Waller and Magnolia for the last playoff spot. Offense- HB Desmond Richards 5'9" 183lbs 4.5, WR Tyler Resendez 5'10" 185lbs 4.5, QB Tyler Anderson 6'2" 195lbs 4.8 Defense- FS Justin Williams 5'10" 180lbs 4.6, CB Jeremy Jordan 5'10" 170lbs 4.4, DE Adrian Randle 5. Waller- (3-7) Waller will contend for the 4th playoff spot, and do so behind their strength, which will be their o-line. Like Brenham, they will have a new QB to break in. The Bulldogs, just missed the playoffs last year, and this year won't be any easier. To top it off, Brenham and Stratford are both away games. Offense- WR D.J. Johnson 6'1" 176lbs 4.7, OL Matt Leviner 6'1" 255lbs 5.0, OL Josh Hunter Defense- LB Colton Robinson 6'2" 195lbs 4.7, DT Jordan Hamilton 6'0" 255 4.9, FS Hunter Schmidt 6'0" 183lbs 4.6 6. Magnolia- (3-7) This is a very young team, with lots of speed. With so much youth and inexperience, it will be important to keep everybody healthy. They should improve a lot throughout the season, and like Waller, they have outside shot at the 4th playoff spot. They live and die by the option, like many of the teams in 17-4A. From what I know, the option plus youth is not a successful formula. Especially with an offensive line that struggles. Offense- HB Chase Gragert 6'0" 188lbs 4.4, FB Chance David 5'11" 230lbs 4.8, QB Shyerome Harris 5'8" 185lbs 4.8 Defense- DL Ajahne Brager 6'4" 265lbs 5.0, CB Gabe Evans, DE Sean Kellar 7. Spring Woods- (1-9) The Tigers won't make the playoffs, but they can gain some experience, and with a little more support from their community, who knows.... they might be able to contend for playoff spot next year. IMO, they will beat Northbrook, but beating the other teams in the district is a bit of a stretch. Offense- QB Sidney McBride 5'10" 195lbs 4.7, FB Reggie Heckard 5'11" 234lbs 4.9, HB Ocie Garrett Defense- S Brian Bruce 6'0" 175lbs 4.6, DT Daniel Shelton 5'10" 220lbs 4.8, DT Isiah Montez 8. Northbrook- (1-9) It won't be an easy season for the Raiders, as they try to regroup around a new coach. A new coach is just one of the problems, as they also lost their best player from last year, QB Keu Noble. The top end of 17-4A is loaded, so it will be an uphill battle. Offense- WR Ken Jones 6'1" 175 4.5, OT Victor Diaz 6'4" 270lbs, HB Elijah Dupas Defense- CB Frankie Quiroz 5'11" 186lbs 4.6, LB Carson Lopez, DE Carson Pruitt
