  1. This is the best team in one major respect - teams of the past had three or four outstanding performers who led the team, and these teams from 1961, 1998, and 2002 were senior dominated teams. One of our biggest playmakers, AJ Dugat is a junior. Our leading tacklers each and every game are sophomore Moises Herrera and junior Fred Hynson. Yes, Brent Kimmy on the defensive front is a senior, however, Aaron Jenkins (32), Chris Young (45), and Evan Brown (25) are sophomores, while Xavier Edwards (60) is a junior. On the offensive line, the center, Robert Billings and the right guard, Jon Pittsenbarger are seniors, but the RT, Tony Hill (77) is a sophomore, LG Anthony St. Julian and LT Ray Samuels are juniors. That kind of returning nucleus can't make next year's opponents not be a bit apprehensive about another powerhouse Bronco team. The point is that this is not a senior-laden team, but has more widespread talent across it than any Bronco team I've seen in the past, well, since the 1960's.
  2. I have been to that stadium a couple of times. I am almost sure both sides are equal when it comes to seating. Deer Park built it knowing they would be playing the Pasadenas and La Porte, etc, and knew they'd have as many at the game as Deer Park would. Less than 10 miles is not much of a travel to diminish a crowd traveling.
  3. u r absolutely correct, my apology. However, Hardin just lost on Friday. I doubt the coaches all called a Sat or Sun meeting to make selections. True, some make them at end of season and hold off announcing til after playoffs, but some don't even make selections until play is finished. ;D
  4. one more time - distict selections are not announced until the teams in your district are done with playoffs
  5. Dayton vs Livingston, Friday, Nov. 30, 7 p.m. at Galena Park.
  6. Never said that. Then again, by your logic Roseanne is a better singer than Celine Dion
  7. I can help with Dayton's starting OL RT Tony Hill 77 (So) RG Jonathan Pittsenbarger 50 (Sr) C Robert Billings 55 (Sr) LG Anthony St. Julian 51 (Jr) RG Ray Samuels 71 (Jr) RB John Gable 5 (Sr) Some defensive identification: 12 Fred Hynson LB 33 Moises Herrera LB 32 Aaron Jenkins DE 6 Chase Barnes S 14 Ford Smesny S 8 AJ Dugat CB 81 Ronnie Powell CB and Kicker 20 Paul Fontenot (CB) 60 Xavier Edwards 62 Brent Kimmy Nose
  8. I think you have to break it down by class. If not the selection begs the question, how would Jasper have done against Lumberton or how would Newton done against Dayton. There is no way to tell, so you need an all-district team first. Then, it MIGHT be easier to pick a SETX SUPERTEAM but it would still be difficult since many of the players did not compete against each other, and that's the true measure of how a player did - how he performed against someone else of the same or equal caliber. Just my opinon.
  9. The reason is simple. Look at Bay City vs Texas City last week. Some fumbles deep and they're down 28-0. If your team is one-two-three and a cloud of dust, the problem is you might score 21 points, but you've got to hope the opposing team doesn't score anymore, and even if they don't, you've probably run out of time because you've been running for two to three or four yards up the middle, staying in bounds and the clock is running. This is why people shucked the wishbone. If you got behind, it worked against you for making a comeback.
  10. You're in fantasy land. First of all, Dayton's QB is Gregory Charles and there is no other QB in this district even close. AJ Dugat plays WR. It's funny, you put AJ as the only representative from the Dayton on the entire team, yet the Bronco offense led the district in yards and points (mainly because the Dayton offense never had to face the Dayton defense) and the defense was the number two 4A defense in the entire state, yet you can only come up with ONE Dayton defender?!? Your selections smack of being your own popularity contest with little regard to ability and production during district competition. Do some homework. Just curious, has anyone broken down the complete "district competition" stats listing top players "production-wise" at each position. Maybe this could be a group project with one rep from each team coming up with that teams' stats and then someone compiling everything together.
  11. Hancock . . . Jowell Hancock is the defensive coordinator, but he'll be the first to tell you that the "mind" behind the schemes, the fit, and the chemistry is Stewart. "Yes, we can play offense, but Dayton's reputation has been built on defense. We're always going to be pretty good defensively." Jerry Stewart. One word to sum up the Bronco defense: "striking"
  12. What are you smokin'? Dayton by height and weight has the smallest team in the district. Against teams like Friendswood, Ozen, Central, Nederland, PNG, and now Texas City our offensive line was outweighed some 60-80 (Friendswood) pounds. We are not big. Truthfully, and I'm talking 40 speeds here, we're not fast, but we are extremely quick. Oh, and don't let the size fool you. Pound for pound, we are the strongest team around - just ask the men in the trenches that had to try to push those guys around and tried to keep them out of the offensive backfield.
  13. Caldwell vs. Kirbyville is Saturday, 7 p.m. at Dayton - ... and the Caldwell Hornets: 08/31 @ Elgin (17-4A) won: 47-6 09/07 Rockdale (18-3A) won: 31-18 09/14 Hearne (26-2A) won: 48-12 09/21 Robinson (17-3A) won: 43-28 10/05 @ Hutto (18-3A) won: 49-21 10/12 @ Smithville (23-3A) won: 49-14 10/19 La Grange (23-3A) won: 42-14 10/26 @ Giddings (23-3A) lost: 7-21 11/02 @ Navasota (23-3A) won: 44-29 11/09 Bellville (23-3A) won: 30-13 11/16 Columbus (24-3A) Austin Berger won: 42-31
  14. Alonzo, and that's Mr. Alonzo to you. Want some more bad news? He's a junior.
  15. Just saw the poll on the front of this website. Not a single Dayton player is listed from a team "the broadcast" said was playing the best football anywhere in SE TEXAS. Of course, what do you expect from one who can't even get the wording right - Who is the best football player is Southeast Texas??? It's no surprise the opinions expressed by this "self-limited-area" serving operation are what they are and were what they were . . . but I have, no comment. I'm done. Signed: The Dayton "Outsiders" Broncos!
  16. It was. Coach Haynes of Hardin had already contacted Dayton to use Bronco Stadium if he won any of the tosses. There were three different scenarios so there were three different coin tosses> "I pulled the hat-trick - I lost all three of them," said Haynes.
  17. Just got off the phone with Larry Haynes. Hardin @ Hemphill at 7:30, Fri. Nov. 16
  18. Then you're comments are frivolous and without merit - except for just being your opinion. Sincerely, I HOPE Lumberton advances far enough in the playoffs to again face the mighty Broncos. Like Nederland fans two weeks ago, like PNG fans this week, seemingly the only way YOU and the rest of your kind will understand is to see Dayton one more time. Then, we'll all ask you a simple question - Was that the same team you played the first week of district? That's all that needs to be said.
  19. It's official. Dayton vs Crosby at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16. Ticket prices in advance are $6 for adults, $3 for students. At the gate, ALL tickets will be $6
  20. I know exactly why. The names were removed by Coach Stewart after the West Orange-Stark game. "The kids were playing as individuals and not like a team," said Stewart. "I removed the names after that night to let them know that they were not more important individually than the team."
  21. The game will be played in Crosby. UIL rules state that if for playoff purposes you flip for home and home, if both teams meet in the playoffs the next year, the game is played at the opposite site. Coaches met at Mickey D's this morning at 8 a.m. They'll probably be shooting for a 7 p.m. start given that both districts have used that starting time this season. The game will be played Friday night.
  22. Not in a three way tie. Two years ago, and I'm certain few considered Dayton to be a threat, the DISTRICT determined what to do in the event of a three-way tie. They ESTABLISHED the rules that without regard to who went to Div 1 or who represented Div 2, that the district champion would be DETERMINED by the point system - and 18 pts (differential) is the maximum number of points used per game. ACCORDING to DISTRICT RULES, Dayton is District Champion in determining playoffs - Lumberton is 2 and PNG is 3. The RULES were changed because it SUITED the needs of ONE team. Now, oh wise one, and nothing personal, but do YOU think that changing the rules like that is the RIGHT THING TO DO?
  23. Yes, it's what we've been trying to tell fans of this district ever since Lumberton. NO one seems to understand what we're talking about until AFTER, rather DURING playing the Broncos. Lumberton was an anomaly. Our starting QB had gone down and the 2nd was down with a staff (sp?) infection. After that game, not only were we able to install our second string QB and put AJ at receiver/running back where he could inflict even more damage, but our offense transformed - I guess the 4 or 5 sophomores who start on that defense finally began to come around. Speed kills. Actually, we're not that fast - we're very quick.
