  1. 1985 was the last time the two schools played each other. Two years later, 1987, was the last time Dayton played Barbers Hill. The latter will be rectified, or renewed, due to the district alignment including both teams. 30 years ago, the roles of Dayton and Liberty were reversed with Liberty being a 3-A school, back when there were only four classifications (A-AA-AAA-AAAA). The history of playing each other goes way, way back with Liberty holding a great advantage, but when "the worm" began to turn and Dayton became the population center of Liberty County, with the Panthers falling from AAAA to AAA and Dayton maintaining a "middle of the AAAA pack" in school population, Liberty no longer wanted Dayton on their schedule. At the time, in '86 when the schedules were being done, the Liberty coach at that time (and I don't know who it was) basically said that when his team played Dayton they were absolutely no good the week before or the week after because they were so focused on Dayton. Now, it's pretty much like is being bandied about - why would anyone want to play a team that, in all liklihood, would embarrass them. However, and here is a strand of hope, new head coach Shane Deel has said to give them a couple of years to get their ship in order and they could schedule Dayton. So, will we see a renewal of rivalry in 2010, or will it be 2012? Who knows, but if some of us are going to live to see it, somebody better get on the stick.
  2. Thanks, I don't get on here much because of my schedule, but don't read this here - follow the link to see some Liberty Panther practice photos. I really didn't get around that much to practices, but aim to have quite a bit of photos of this week's scrimmages: Liberty-Hardin, Hull-Daisetta, Dayton, and Barbers Hill. To see what can be done follow this link and wait for the photos to start revolving. Sorry if your internet speed is slow but it will eventually speed up as they go through. Anyway, you can hit the pause button and view one at a time and go back and forth as you like. This is what you can look forward to next week as you read about each of the scrimmages. Here is the link to what I'm talking about: [Hidden Content]
  3. Now, maybe you can take it to the bank. The UIL has granted a waiver for all schools affected by Eduardo, so what caused a change in scrimmage from Friday to Monday has now seen, in order to avoid too few days between scrimmange #1 and scrimmage #2, the West Orange-Stark vs. Dayton scrimmage will now be on Saturday, August 16: 5 p.m. - JV and Freshmen 7 p.m. - Varsity Got the word half an hour ago while driving down the highway from a Dayton assitant coach. This is it. There won't be anymore changes. See you there. The UIL pretty much has to grant a waiver when only some schools are affected. Had the storm shut down the entire state and all the schools had been effected, then there might not have been need of a waiver, but who ever REALLY knows with the UIL. Just my two cents.
  4. It is official, got it from Coach Stewart half an hour ago. Due to missing because of Eduard, the scrimmages have been moved back to Monday, Augl 18. Fr and JV at 4:30 p.m. Varsity at 6
  5. I don't know where or how all the misinformation came from, but the game has always been sceduled for the 15th. The schedule I have that is a month old lists the date, but for time and place it is TBA. GOLF GAME??? Don't you have to play golf to have a golf game? The game was set for Friday morning so coaches could go see other scrimmages on Friday night or Saturday as necessary. Plain and simple. Freshmen and JV will play on opposite ends of the field beginning at 9 a.m. At 10 or shortly thereafter, the varsities will take over and go at it. See you there. I'll have the big lense.
  6. The hit on Waller's Jacob Dodd (55) was made by Fred Hynson (12). We talked about it today.
  7. There is a very good reason he played JV QB. He came in from New Orleans after losing his home in the flood and was at Dayton his firrst year as a junior. He had to be "seasoned" a bit. Worked, didn't it?
  8. if one is, they all will due to bus runs
  9. I think you ought to wear your Lumberton colors and let us hang some purple on you for the game - kind of a chameleon effect. I'm going to the Touchdown Club thingy Wednesday night and I'll be wearing my Bronco gear.
  10. we'll be somewhere in the visitors parking lot - center, unless they have something better on the perimeter. last week, we were right in front of the entrance gate. just look for the white picnic table. we might try to get a flag or something to prop up. i know they used to have one at the football games but they don't run it around anymore. maybe I can find out what happened to it and use that.
  11. Best guess, we served about 150 at Galena Park. As far as the game, if you want to wait until five to leave, you might not see the kickoff. Traffic out 290 is horrible, especially on a Friday. We're going to pull out of here around 3, figuring to get there by 4:30 and set up to be ready to go with the Tailgate at 5. I have already had people telling me they were coming to the tailgate because they didn't make it to the last one and heard about it. So, practical or not, we're going to "tie one one" and if you show up there'll be food to eat and something to drink and lots of conversation about Bronco football. Now, if you've got someplace better to be than that, I just don't know where it would be.
  12. You might try exiting West RD off the Beltway and taking it to Barker Cypress on the other side of 290. Or, if you're willing to get onto 290, take the West Rd exit off there (this is what I'm going to do) and go west on West until you get to Barker Cypress and turn right.
  13. Dayton players who started at some time this year who return next year: Offense: QB 7 Cody Green, 8 AJ Dugat, 51 LG Anthony St. Julian, 71 LT Ray Samuels (center), 77 LT Tony Hill Defense: LB 12 Fred Hynson, 25 Evan Brown, 32 Aaron Jenkins, 33 Moises Herrera, 45 Chris Young, 60 Xavier Edwards Players returning who subbed in on a regular basis during early parts of games: 2 Terry Asson, 4 KJ Barton, 21 Dylan Bethea, 31 Victor Blanco, Jordan May, Jordan Baxter, FYI
  14. Well, he blew his ending. When Ronnie' Powell's PAT attempt that would have given him 40 in a row was blocked, the ball bounced right into his hands. He stepped to his left, cut up the field and in for the two-pointer. We weren't going for two, and for the record, that last TD was scored by what we call "the JV."
  15. If all Texas City could score was 10, and three of those on a 'gimme' then what makes TF think Livingston can score 21. That has been a consistent downfall of everyone's Dayton picks this year. We hold teams such as Texas City, Crosby, PNG, Nederland, Lumberton and several others to less than 10 points and these guys predict Livingston can score twice as many points as these others. Let's put it this way: Forget last week. Forget the "way" the playoff format came together. Had Texas City last week been playing Livingston, what would the predictions have been. Use that as a starting spot and then bring on your prediction. IMO - Oh, and let's hold off on any more Dayton vs Lumberton stuff until after tonight's games. There will be plenty of space (you administrators might want to do an upgrade) for the traffic and smack after that. Even I have a special one already to go, but it does no good to talk about next week until this week's games are in the can. Capice'
  16. I know exactly who you are. Great hearing from you. check your private messages on this site for cell #
  17. Not counting the Dayton people, how many of you "out-of-towners" (Dayton being the town) are expecting to drop by our tailgate. Welcome all, and I'm just trying to get a rough idea of the numbers. It's going to be big because almost everywhere I went today, people were asking me about it and wanting to know where. It is on the south side in a grassy area with trees right off Wallisville Rd - between that road and the parking lot. Just post something before 1:30 so I'll have an idea. Thanks in advance.
  18. If Dayton it will be on a Sat. if Dayton plays on Friday and verse-vica - otherwise there'd be no one in Dayton to run the show. . .
  19. ok, so we're dividing the 13 wrong by the total number of predictions and subtracting from 100: 13/58 = 22.4 100-22.4 = 77.6 or dividing the 45 right by the total predictions to get the percentage correct: 45/58 = 77.3 ?
  20. oops! I believe that's 71% - check my math 13/45 is as x/100 45x = 1300 x = 29 100-29 = 71 - in other words, you get 29 out of a hundred wrong, and you get a 71, unless you're grading on the curve - a big curve
  21. The 2003 team went 4-1 in non-distict with the 20-19 loss to Channelview being the only loss of the regular season. The Broncos swept through district, then defeated Houston Waltrip, 45-6 in Dayton for bi-district. We fell to Bay City, 22-16 in area, due mainly to a dropped ball that was picked up and advanced for a touchdown after a return of about 15-18 yards.
