  1. Quarter Switch unless coaches agree otherwise....We usually do not switch at quarters in our Jr Games. Just curious since we started out every quarter for the first few games then just at half but this was the first game that we didn't switch at all. Each weekend it is amazing the new things that I learn that I thought I already knew. This weekend it was told that they just give warnings for some penalties instead of throwing a flag (i.e.-non-obvious face mask was a warning & only a penalty if it was obvious). A face mask is a face mask regardless of someone's opinion as to obvious or not. There were others that weren't called either but this specific one was discussed. It is confusing how it is decided when to use all the rules or just some.
  2. Does anyone know who/how it is determined whether teams switch sides at quarter, half or NOT?
  3. Just curious what this was since this week is my week for snacks at the game... orange slices and grapes that were (what looked like) ice cold! simple and full of vitamin C! Thanks...

  5. It seems to me from all that I read the girls can do both but have chosen along with their parents to participate in an activity in which it will not determine an outcome of a game as to if they are there or not (just another fan in the stands) vs handing a win to a team and letting your team members down cuz you don't want to participate & having the potential to not be in a playoff position because you forfeited. Both can be accomplished if they start the district VB game earlier on Friday, in which HJ has agreed, and still go to the non-district football game to dance or cheer on the other side of Houston after the game. There should not be a choice given. They do both or none. When you choose to participate you are making a commitment to your teams. Choosing an activity that doesn't require your participation to continue over one that does is totally wrong. (IMO) Sounds to me like the parents either don't care and probably weren't planning on going to the football game. But by their daughters going vs staying here to play volleyball this gives them a night out until the girls get home from the football game to do what they want to do like go to the Winnie Rice Festival. There will be another vb game next week but the rice festival will be over...LOL.. But seriously, my child participates in multiple activites and sometimes there are conflicts but the entire situation has to be reviewed to determine which activity to participate... one factor would be if there were enuf players without him, playoff vs recreational, etc. He has always been told that once he commits he is in it for the duration if he decides he doesn't like it or doesn't want to play anymore then that is fine for the next season but he is committed for that one. Once u start it then u finish it. Situation could have been handled better by parents, players etc. & it still can since it is only Thursday.
  6. Clocks running and not running have been a big problem this year at several fields. At one game, the refs told us the scoreboard clock was the official time. We asked why a ref didn't keep an official time on the field and he said cuz they use the scoreboard & it wasn't necessary. Well it was necessary when you've already had several plays and touchdowns and the clock was never started. When timeouts are called and the clock continues to run that is another issue also. When you have 8 minute quarters & it takes 1 hour to play 2 qtrs then something is definitely wrong. It needs to be discussed at the beginning of the game whether the refs will keep time on the field along with the scoreboard or if the scoreboard will be the only time so that it can be pointed out if it is running when it should be stopped and vice versa.
  7. I don't recall a place to keep the official score on there but it could be on it. It is to list the roster and number of plays to ensure that each player met their 10 minimum play requirement.
  8. Take it easy on us since we do play ya'll next week... get all the frustrations out at practice.... LOL I did inform our coaches that past is past & they also need to fill one out in all future games cuz we wouldn't want to this to happen if we were to ever sneak in a win and have to forfeit cuz of paperwork. They had not felt that they needed to keep one with only 3to5 subs (depending on who shows up) everyone was going to get 10 plays and they have even though it wasn't on paper.
  9. true but it could change for a team that u might beat but cuz u didn't keep your log and show u were in compliance... the team that lost would get a win which could put them up in the standings in which they may have been close to another team and with the loss it should have bumped them back and not up.... could work both ways...
  10. I've never seen one kept for our games. I asked about it the first week and nobody knew who was doing it. I guess when you lose every week no one cares about seeing it so to my knowledge it has never been an issue. Also if u only have 3-5 players to substitute in it is very unlikely someone is not going to get their MPR. But I'd hate to see it become an issue so whether u r losing or not one should be kept every week. It was my understanding that it was reviewed at 1/2 time and end of 3rd qtr so they were aware of those that hadn't met their time would play at the beginning of the 4th qtr so that they'd be in compliance.
  11. Can anyone explain this game and what MPR violations? if I'm not mistaken, every player must get a minimum of 10 plays per game. Thanks... It is 10 plays per game just didn't know the MPR acronym... Too many acronyms to learn these days... I haven't seen a game yet where this has been kept or checked in our games... Guess that is something to watch out for...
  12. Can anyone explain this game and what MPR violations?
  13. PeeWee: Vidor-Blk 32 - 20 over Beaumont Game was much closer than score indicates... Should've been 26-26... Refs were horrible...
  14. Thanks to all for the information. Sorry, playing in Vidor tomorrow not at WOS. I see that now I can tell my husband that I'm not the only loud mouth mom out there...LOL Good luck tomorrow....
  15. Are there bleachers at the WOS, Vidor or Lumberton fields? Wondering if need to bring chairs to any of these or not.
  16. I agree w/L-Train... same picks w/Lum-Red over Blue
  17. Flag Lumberton Red - 24 Beaumont - 0 PeeWee BC - 47 Beaumont - 6
  18. Is it true that you have to have attended both tryouts? Those that were at tryouts on Thursday said that they have to tryout again tomorrow night. I thought the reason for multiple dates was we had a choice in which one we could attend. I understand that the fees are $150/month but by word of mouth I am also hearing that there is also $1000 fee upfront as well... the monthly fee was expected but the $1000 was shocker Good Luck to all the 9U/10U's that have the opportunity to tryout...
  19. the refs have nothing to do with who runs the clock. that is the the responsibilty of the home teams Well the home team claimed they weren't the official time and that was why they allowed kids to operate cuz the refs had the official time. The refs only said that the score would be right in the official scorebook; therefore, we didn't need to worry about if the score was right or not on the scoreboard but that was the official time. You can't have an official time keeper where they can be distracted by other people as well as other games on other fields (turning around watching the game behind instead of the game they are operating the board for). Hopefully, lessons were learned this weekend and the problem was addressed and resolved for future games at that site or any other home site. Donate $25 per game and you can have a real official run the scoreboard, otherwise each association tries to get a responsible person to do it. The ref is utlimately responsible for the game time. The score is both coaches responsibility. There are some games that the coaches agree to run the clock. So ask your coach! When my son played there were about 25 games per week in the stjfl, times that by $25, thats a lot of money. Another idea, you volunteer and help the situation. I always get a kick out of people that want to complain are the ones that dont volunteer. The refs said the home team is responsible for the game time. I agree that maybe the refs should have an official time and that maybe the clock timekeeper should be a back-up. We do not allow children to keep our clock. We have adult volunteers that volunteer and are not paid either. A responsible person is not a child. We weren't home team but had I known that anyone could volunteer and they needed help then I would have offered for FREE. I do volunteer for everything that my son is involved in rather it is football, soccer, baseball, basketball or whatever. I've also volunteered while my step-son was growing up for his activities as well. I've worked many a game including times when I didn't even know anyone that was playing. I have been called on many times at the last minute cuz they needed help at the ballpark to run the concession stand, keep books or whatever and if I am available then I go help. I wouldn't go off on people cuz you think they only complain and do not volunteer. I do not believe that I was the only one complaining about the time clocks.
  20. land*shark If you are complaining about Nederland fields, I don't know if you noticed but there was a new pressbox built and hopefully we can have the time keeper in it by next game. No it was PNG.

  22. Yeah we had the same issue today. With 8 minute quarters it took 45 minutes to play the 1st half... The score was already 6 - 0 and the clock still had never been started. Time outs called and clock wasn't stopped for almost 1 minute one time. The referees need to have an official timekeeper and not rely on someone operating a clock. In this case it was a kid. You know something isn't right when points are being put on the board for a td and one never was made....
