you gotta get into texas and actually see these teams play b4 you can have an opinion
:D Ha! Im sure you are referring to me.. Well I can tell you one thing, I know plenty about these teams and have made my opinions from seeing them one more than a few occasions.. unless they have imported different players, then I have no clue about what any team has ;) ;D -

Constant ball pressure will beat the Bulldogs every time.
They have ways to handle presses ;) And I dont see either one of these teams beating the other by more than a one or two baskets.. Close game
MHS defeated nederland by 20, the game was close early but mhs pulled away early in the 3rd. With that being said, MHS had no player over 6'3'' playing in that game. Silsbee is a longer team than MHS and and applies the same amount of ball pressure.
Oh and Im sure your one of those people that thinks the same thing would happen if they played again ::) ::) Maybe Nederland can play Memorial for a warm-up game and put that theory to test -

Who cares what word he used?? ??? It doesn't change what the record book says... 2 "L's".. -
Since there has been some talk about who is the best team in SETX between Nederland and Silsbee, What are yall's opinions and predictions for how this game would turn out IF they played? Different individual Match-ups? Cunningham vs Lane? Smith/Forney vs. DC? Size vs. speed? How about a top 10 of players in the area? any classifications ;) Maybe talk about the ice cold weather recently vs. the warm weather and sunshine? ;) ;D Then Finally,(Mainly a question for Mike) What do you think about Lamar basketball and the situation over there?
I can't believe how poorly OF played in this game. To let a mediocre HJ team off the hook for the second time this year is just amazing to me. I mean I realize that HJ is better coached, has better athletes, better facilities, better fans, better tradition and the list goes on but for some reason we just continue to let HJ beat themselves. I hope they don't have to play themselves in the playoffs or watch out because it will not have anything to do with the fact that they are just not as good as they think this year. I realize how the record looks but everytime you have had to play a good team the results have not been that good. Yes they have ran rampant upon BC and HF in district but they have struggled against a mediocre OF team 2 times and beaten by Silsbee convincingly twice. The great thing about this district is that HJ is normally considered a lock for the playoffs but rarely exceeds expectations in district. Yet when OF plays them close, yes I realize a loss is a los, it has nothing to do with the fact that OF played well it is always that HJ played that bad or beat themselves. My prediction is a short playoff run unless a better team beats themselves.
I think you should make sure the HJ faithful read through this ;) ;)

I think a big part of this game would come down to Foul Trouble with DC.. You have to play tough against Forney and he can draw fouls in the post, and K-Smith is about as unguardable as you get for this area.. What is Silsbee's option if DC has to sit for foul trouble? Press and try for turnovers and not let Nederland play half court basketball and feed it to the bigs? This would be a good game.. another great player match-up would be Cunningham/Lane.. They should set this game up and SETX can do a live broadcast ;) Be much appreciated -

Something didnt go right when HJ only won by 2
HJ led by 15 in the 3rd.......went cold and got selfish!!! Glad to see that when someone did something they were asked not to do, that the HJ coaching staff pulled the player!!!!!
Thats called never missing a chance to discipline players a teach a lesson ;) Rick Barnes did the same kind of thing tonight when Thompson missed a dunk.. He pulled him and made sure he never gave up 2 points just to be fancy.. But at least HJ came out with the win

Something didnt go right when HJ only won by 2
HJ went flat in the 4th. I think they were up 43-32 and the next thing you know, its 43-43. HJ figured the game was over with an 11 point lead over a mediocre team, but somebody forgot to tell Orangefield.
Sounds like the Nederland game tonight, but they never let the game get tied, except at tip-off :D
Silsbee Duh Best in the Area
If you think Silsbee is a lock for this game, then you need to get out to a Nederland game soon, then make a prediction.. I saw Silsbee against G-ball earlier and I will tell you Silsbee is for real, but so is Nederland -

HJ put themselves in great position to beat them, not once but twice. I'm not talking about Nederland playing a garbage game against PNG and the Indians having a flukey shot at beating the dawgs, i'm talking about HJ playing as well or better than the tigers for 3 quarters TWICE. Now, i've already stated that Silsbee is the better team, but HJ has a decent shot of beating them any time they play, not "no shot". Nederland has "no shot" at advancing to state. Bridge City has "no shot" at making the playoffs. HJ could beat Silsbee, and it wouldn't take a whole lot of breaks to do it. That is merely the point i was trying to make. I do like the comment "I didn't want to say anything negative until after the game until i could see what the score ended up being", however. You'd think since you "knew HJ had no shot of beating Silsbee", you would've made your bold prediction before the games, rather than after they occured.
Plenty of others knew what I thought about this match-up, and I promised Ole Nashy that I wouldnt say anything else about Hj until the game was finished ;) I was chomping at the bit to get back on this topic! ;D ;D
All I can do is hope the topic shows up again sometime soon
Always next year ;)
So who advances further in the playoffs this year - HJ or Nederland?
I think Nederland goes as far as Yates, to be honest.. Ned can match-up and play basketball with G-Ball or LaMarque since one team (LaMarque) has one superstar scorer and shooters around him (box&1 Lewis and try your best to win that way), and the other (G-ball) with two dominating 6-5 guys that can spread the floor(Kelvin on Evans then Forney on Pettaway).. AND about HJ, I dont see them getting by Cleveland or they might slip up before that and lose.. They need to have the 3-pointers dropping to win deeper in the playoffs -
