1. Should be really good as usual...will win 20+ games and compete with Dayton for the District title.  LOTS of young talent coming up to compliment 3 returning starters so new coach has his work cut out for him!
 2. Figured they'd get "the real deal"...nice work, Coach Gage! From reporternews.com: After spending four years as Wylie's girls basketball coach and leading the Lady Bulldogs to a pair of Class 3A state championships, Tri Danley is leaving the school for the same position at Class 4A Barbers Hill. Danley, who came to Wylie from Ballinger before the 2008-09 season, won four district titles in his time at Wylie and his teams advance to at least the regional quarterfinals in all four years. His last three seasons ended in the state finals, with his Lady Bulldogs winning the last two state titles.

 4.
Next Coach has alot of young talent to work with. I hate to think she leaves because of talent.
Definitely did NOT leave because of (or lack of) rising talent. BH will be very good at least the next 3 years.  From what I understand it had nothing to do with anything other than a good opportunity and valid personal/family reasons to relocate.  I appreciate the hard work, dedication and success she brought to the program the last 2 years.  ALSO, I have no doubt that BH administration will look for the very best to fill the position and continue the great girls basketball legacy!

Congrats to Ciara!  I think my DD's team will have St. T on the schedule next year, so she and Ciara will have a Little Dribblers rematch!
 6.

I'm not that familiar on the girl's side of basketball but I can assure you parents and players have to be more pro active. Times have changed and just playing high school ball and wanting to play the next level isn't enough anymore. You just don't see that many players coming from this area having a lot of options or choice of schools after their high school career.
You are correct Dove, I have been there and done that.
Me too, and as far as "pro-active" - it was like a part time job for me for two years -videoing, editing, helping her with letters, visits, elite camps, LOTS of AAU travel.  Mine missed her soph/junior exposure summer due to injury so it was an even bigger struggle to get seen in just the short junior/senior summer exposure season.  Most local colleges had already had offers out by then so it was high intensity "selling" to get her some attention.  In her case, it paid off (minus the thousands of $ spent on "being seen", ha)...still worth every minute and dime though. As far as high school play being a factor, its just not much of one.  Most college coaches only want to know that she actually played HS and not just AAU.  Also, most colleges dont come to HS games unless they already have interest in the player from summer exposure. Ciara is a solid player and still has plenty of opportunity to hit the JUCO trail if she interested in that.
 7. Congrats Bria!!  My alma mater too!  They are getting a steal... girl can flat play
 8. Held tomorrow, 2 PM at University of St Thomas in Houston.  BH's Shannon Evans and Kendall Shaw were selected to play.  Shaw will not play in this one due to NCAA limit on all-star games (wouldnt you like to have that problem  ;D ), but Evans and Shaw will team up one more time in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame All-star Shootout at Baylor on May 5.  I will follow up with info on the other all-star games when I have them.
 9.
I will post this in the boys basketball Just asking I am watching the Uconn Vs Kentucky womens elite 8 game and I noticed they have two male coaches, do you think they could coach mens basketball in college or would there be a difference?  Do you think Coach K at Duke could win as the womens coach? Just want to see what everyone thinks
They absolutely could be successful Men's coaches as well.  Great coaches make adjustments to their schemes based on available personnel every season anyway.  Other than overall team speed (and the over-rated ability to dunk), there is little difference between collegiate Mens' and Womens' BB.  I think it would come down to whether they WANT to do it or not.  And...Coach K would take the Little Sisters of the Poor Flying Nuns to a title with the decent players :)

Seriously? Yall are griping about an award being given out? Get over it. They do this for the girls. Not for yall.  >:(
Well why don't you give an award to every kid? That is what it has gotten too. This has nothing to do with us. An award should be deserved not expected. We live in a society where everyone tries to please everyone. Screw that, the strong survive the weak do not.
Seriously. We had a total of 15 players on the first team and 12 players on the second team. Yall are acting like they just named everyone in the freaking district. Get over yourselves.
They pretty much did, ha!  do the math.  8 teams times 5 starters is 40.  So you figure almost 70% of the starters got all-district.  If you dont see any issue with that, then its no use continuing the argument.  "Superlatives" just dont mean as much as they used to IMO.
 11.
In the Class 5A Championship, Duncanville 41, Spring DeKaney 9, Halftime. No, that is not a typo!
Watching it now and it is about as ugly as it gets...Duncanville prob needs to pull off the pressure by mid 3rd or it will really mar the win... Dang they are good

 13.
Just saw the all district on kogt. Lets see, 10 girls on the first team and 12 on the second team. Wow, these coaches are awesome. Also saw where they had new-comer of the year and sophomore of the year. Why stop there, you might as well name a junior and senior of the year also. Can you say "WATERED DOWN".
SOPHOMORE OF THE YEAR???????????  Seriously???!!  Not to take anything away from the young lady that got it, but this process has become rediculous.  hmmm...lets just give everyone who played a big shiny participation medal....welcome to socialism.

 15. These two seniors left it all on the court...for the school, themselves and for Barbers Hill... [img][Hidden Content]]
 16. We almost slayed the giant but came up just short.  The girls left everything on the court and have a lot to proud of. It was beyond heartwarming to see "The Drum" full of the best High School fans EVER!  I cannot tell you how important the fans were this season and how much they were appreciated by the team.  I will just leave it with a big  THANK YOU!!
 17.
Reading these post I have come to a conclusion. Most of you are losers.  ;D ;D
awww Solo, we almost detected a heartbeat on the Girls Basketball Board and you gotta go and say that  ;D ;D
 18. Yep, Dick...Karma is real....just ask Ozen...that taunting the night before was quite helpful as motivation :)
 19.
So was it classless for the Ozen players to be talking trash to some of the BH fans the night before during the game against Clear Falls? Talking about how BH was next? Maybe but obviously not very smart. Or is it classless to walk off the court before the winning team is announced after the game? I think that's more classless myself but would have never mentioned it before you 2 idiots spoke up. Teenagers don't always make good decisions but you can't always control what they do. Don't get on here bashing the BH girls when you don't know them and you obviously don't pay attention to what your own girls are doing. It amazes me that people will turn their heads to what their own kids are doing but bash someone else for doing something similar. I don't like any of the trash talking myself but if your gonna talk it you better expect a little in return!
Thanks RIP...I knew all about this (HEARD the comments myself from the Ozen players the night before) and also that they walked off the floor during the trophy presentation, and at least two unnamed players would not shake hands, and a coach told our players in during handshake "ya'll aint gonna win nothin at state", and the completey inappropriate, moronic behavior of the assistant coach during games going all the way back to FALL LEAGUE... BUT...I chose to take high road and just give congratulations ... Thanks to DICK, now I feel the need to set the record fully straight and its no wonder that that our girls showed their emotions after the taunting from the night before...
 20. I know the rules, but also know the Baytown Sun and Todd Hveem won't mind this one!! By TODD HVEEM [email protected] Baytown Sun | 0 comments HOUSTON – The Barbers Hill Lady Eagles picked the best time to play their best game of the year. MaKenzi May scored 25 points, Shannon Evans added 11 points and six assists and Kendall Shaw had 15 rebounds and seven blocked shots to lead the Lady Eagles to a thrilling 66-39 victory over previously undefeated Beaumont Ozen in the Region III-4A championship game Saturday afternoon at the Campbell Center. It was Ozen’s first loss of the year. The team that had been ranked No. 1 in the state the entire season finished 34-1. Barbers Hill, which lost to Ozen twice a year ago (in the Barbers Hill Classic and the third round of the playoffs), will carry a 38-3 record into Thursday’s state semifinal game in Austin. “Barbers Hill is known for great girls’ basketball,’’ said an emotional head coach Kit Martin after the game. “We have two girls on our team (May and Evans) whose moms went to state (as members of Barbers Hill) in 1982. It has been such a huge dream for these kids. They have had to hear about all the stories in the past. Now, they can tell their own story.’’ It really doesn’t matter if Evans ever scores one point. She is simply fantastic to watch. And she is one of the main reasons the Lady Eagles are going to the Class 4A girls’ state tournament for the first time. Barbers Hill was a Class 3A school in its other state-tournament trips. Evans, who had one of the worst games of her four-year high school career in Friday’s 43-36 Region III-4A semifinal win over Clear Falls, was diving on the floor, wrestling for loose balls, spotting up for 3-pointers, making no-look passes and dribbling through Ozen’s zone and man presses. On one play, she dived head first into the media press table after a loose ball. “The last game was definitely not my favorite,’’ admitted Evans. “I came out today really looking to get other people shots while trying to stay a part of the offense. “Mack (May) and I and all the guards were out here really working hard on our shots before the game,’’ Evans added. “I think it paid off.’’ Barbers Hill was 0-for-10 from beyond the 3-point arc in the win over Clear Falls. But what a difference a day makes. May, who had five 3-pointers in Barbers Hill’s 80-39 win over Lumberton in the first round of the playoffs, hit five more against Ozen. She also hit left-handed layups, short jump shots and drives to the basket. She simply couldn’t miss. May hit a pair of triples in the first period as the Lady Eagles rallied from a 5-0 deficit to grab a 6-5 lead. Shaw, who was being harassed all game, followed with a bucket in the blocks and May added two free throws at the end of the stanza as the Lady Eagles, who have not lost to a Class 4A team this year, carried a 13-10 lead into the second period. Evans quickly upped the lead to 20-15 with a 3-pointer and a short jumper, and Kayla Kana got into the act with a bucket and some rough and tumble play inside the paint as Barbers Hill upped the lead to 23-17. Ozen junior Nekia Jones, who has unbelievable ball skills for a post player, cut the lead to 25-21, but Shaw rebounded Evans’ missed 3-pointer and laid it in at the buzzer to give the Lady Eagles a 27-21 halftime lead. Asia Booker, who is being recruited by a number of Division I schools, tried her best to keep Ozen close with floating drives to the basket and free-throw line jumpers. She wound up with 10 points. Barbers Hill freshman Kimi Carter, who is going to be fabulous by the end of her career, scored a couple of late hoops as the Lady Eagles increased their lead to 43-31 after three quarters of play. Jones, who was a force all day, hit eight straight points in the quarter, but each time she scored, Barbers Hill would have an answer. She finished with 15 points. Kana, who finished with eight points and battled for loose balls all day, had the unenviable task of guarding Jones the entire game. In fact, a big key came when she took a charge from Jones in the first quarter to give the all-state player her second foul of the game. “I think Kaylee Kana was our MVP today,’’ Martin said.
 21. So incredibly proud of these young ladies.  It was truly a TEAM win with so many great contributions.  All the respect in the world for the Ozen players (Nekia Jones is just a BEAST with a ton of heart), but I saw BH do to Ozen what Ozen did to Manvel yesterday...completely rattle them to the point of giving up.  Ozen's press was completely ineffective...and to those that have been frustrated with BH NOT pressing all year (or in this game)...I will say it for the last time...we don't press, we BEAT press and Ozen failed to scout or respect that.  Congats to Kit Martin for making these girls believe in the system and themselves and getting them up to play after shaky performance last night.  I also believe that BH's brutal pre-district and tournament schedule better prepared them for the big spotlight.....AUSTIN baby...time to represent!!
 22. Un-believable!  What a great effort by the Lady Eagles.  Wow. Good season Ozen.
 23. Wow,give credit to Clear Falls for never quitting everytime it looked like BH would pull away.  We better have some shots falling tomorrow...Ozen is clicking right now and we are grinding, but grinding HARD. Another huge BH fan turnout tonite and I cant tell you how much the girls appreciate it.  THANKS!!!!
