They went 8-2 TWICE consecutively and missed the playoffs in that old 4a district....

I completely agree with this. Hooks was the mouth and conductor of the train but Thompson has always been the heart and soul of WOS.

WOS had a very dry spell by their standards when Thompson left the first time, this was under the Hooks reign. Make no mistake, Thompson has been the reason for their dominance the past 30 plus years.

Uhhhhh, what? No WOS players on offense? And coach of the year Matthews? Sorry, not trying to upset any Vidor folk but what?????? WOS is 15-0 and playing in the State Championship for the 3rd year in a row! I know what it is, must have been the AP all state team that picked these for the Beaumont Surprise. Funny how WOS demolished most of the teams that are on that list.

I look for #15 Morris to step up and carry his team. He stood out since his sophomore year and started every game. Look for him to have a year similar to Deionte Thompson's Sr year

kicker reacted to 3rdone in WOS topic of conversation on 6A
I kept saying that THIS team..not last year, not next year...but THIS team, THIS year, can play with ANYONE in the state. People blow off calprep predictions but YES...it has us losing to Desoto...it has us losing to Lake Travis. However, it does not have them being blown out either. We can laugh at these websites, but there are a lot more metrics in that than a few of us online giving one opinion or another. It has them beating Highland park, Temple and Steele. Some people take it as a personal attack on their intellect on the game...but we're just having the conversation and the ONLY reason I hear is WOS doesn't have the depth. At no point in history has WOS EVER had exceptional depth...NEVER. You just can't get enough kids to go through that program and stick it out.
When I got to college to play football I thought practice was a joke compared to what I had already been through. But other kids from those SAME schools mentioned above were huffin' and puffin'...and these were supposed to be studs..ON SCHOLARSHIP D1 FOOTBALL!! Those who haven't been through the WOS program don't understand one bit what it's like! if you have...then you understand just HOW special this team is because you know what those before them went through and still didn't get it done...and it's been since the 80's since they done it 3 straight years. This is a 5A team parading around like they are 4A. You don't hang 70 on an undefeated team in the semi's (21 called back) and then play the worst game you've played in 3 years and beat a 1-loss team 24-6 and the other team doesn't score an offensive TD...That game was never in doubt no matter what that score says. And from people are saying, "Sweetwater played the game of their lives!!" and still only had 148 total yards!! LOL

WOS will win district. That isn't even a question. Now you can't say where they will exit mainly because alot of that depends on where other teams end up too.
Can WOS get back to the final? You are crazy if you say no. WOS is a state final threat every year.
-
kicker reacted to Goblin in 2017 WOS Mustangs
Lol you are all crazy. WOS has lost 1 district game since mid-2003, the finals won't be in Dallas next year and the 2nd round will be the toughest game just like Giddings 2014, Wharton 2015 and Robinson 2016. We have players coming up who've had varsity game time in over 45 games plus the few starters we do have returning are pretty darn good. Keep dreaming. 1987 was supposed to be a rebuilding year too.

And to be completely honest? We could have scored 1200+ points this season. Seriously. But when your starters are taken out at halftime in 14 if 16 games, that tends to happen.

That's actually a great argument. Of course we'll never know how each would compare with each other but I see your point. They didn't have IPads, cell phones or PS4's back then.

Chad was a huge asset this year and will be even more valuable next year, those deep kick offs and the ability to kick field goals . Great work Chad and Kicker and TD for supporting his kids in every way possible .

The best case I can think about is lightning. I know here in FL, there have been countless times we've had to practice in our gym or lunchroom because of the lightning and rain. Not a little rain. Downpours. Practicing in the heat and rain does help you get acclimated, but in a two-a-day I would practice once outdoors and once indoors if an indoor facility was available for us to use.

What i saw yesterday , minus a few technique errors on his XP's and the field goal, he is division 1 material. And yes, even though he was perfect, I still have to find something to gripe about. Isnt that what coaches do???? Lol!!! Honestly, I couldn't be prouder of Cheese! Lord willing, I'll get his little technique issues fixed. And for the love of all things Holy, keep your head down Chad!!!!!!!! Lol

Chad did a great job this year kicking the football. Next year he will be even better. We will need a strong special teams as we are rebuilding for the 2017 school year. Nice job young man.

I really appreciate that. I just want to share my knowledge with kids that want to kick and get better. Many people don't really understand that kicking is not easy. There are hundreds of things that can go wrong, trust me, I've had my share of failures. My main goal is to teach those kids so they don't make some of the mistakes I made. And just wait until my 4 year old starts kicking a football! Can't wait to teach him!! Lol

He was a little off balance on the last kickoff which made him kick the tee. Kid still kicked it to the 10!!!!!!

Hats off to Kicker I have had a few phone conversations with him. I knew he is a difference maker for kids in this area. Even though his heart and soul is at WOS. TY for helping the kids Kicker

Just curious as to what point Coach T WOULD be voted as Coach of the Year by the Beaumont group? It certainly hasn't been in the last 3 years at ALL. It probably matters to others more than it does to him but it has nothing to do with being "spoiled". It has to do with the principle of the thing and makes it seem like Beaumont is a wee bit jealous of the success of WOS. WOS scores over 800 points on offense in a season and has NO ONE on the offensive side recognized. Spoiled? I don't think so.
