That's what happens when the PG holds the ball and allows the defensive men to come and set the trap. He should have pushed the ball like he did in the 4th qtr. The team got some good runs and easy baskets. I just can't believe the previous was the plan....but I saw it last week too.
 2.

Do you think Coach Richard is simply investing in the future, knowing that his team is going to be stronger in the coming years and teaching them to play with 10 players instead of 5?  I mean, I know that if I was going to play 20 minutes instead of 29 or 30, I could go all out and play with a higher level of intensity.
I think its more investing with the present. The HF coach knows exactly what lineup to use that will give them the maximum effort to compete. I've seen him do it ONCE! He's a egood guy and wants all his players to play and I can understand this position. Thats how we play in middle school and its fun for the kids. But you have entitled kids in that hs program :D
Actually what I would like to see next season is a tougher pre-district season. Sabine pass, Tarkington, and evadale will get you some wins and the record will look promising but those games don't challenge the team. Sure a couple of light games is fine...but the team needs to get some experience at pulling through a tough one in order to be able to do it in a district game.
 3.
At the risk of incurring the wrath of of the various hate/fan clubs that seem to exist in H-F, as a WO-S graduate I find the tact that this thread has taken as a bit disrespectful toward the victorious Mustangs.  It makes it sound like a 23 point victory (in which at times late in the game the lead was 30) can be attributed solely at the alleged missteps of Coach Richards.  I would like to set out an alternative theory that I know may be dismissed as implausible...that not only was Coach Wilkins the better coach but that the Mustangs were the better team.
Okay squeaky wheel...here's YOUR oil! WOS played a great game and tonight you were the better team. Your coach is feisty and passionate  for sure. He had some swagger! Now advance a lil further and lets see if you need anymore oil: ) Your welcome!
 4.
Funny, he was getting praised for how well a job he did against Silsbee. I have seen HF play 6 games this year. Coach Richards is far from being the worst coach in the area. hitchpin, you are right and we are nipping it in the bud.
wow...and ya'll think I am hard on the coach? REALLY? But  I will reread last weeks post and see how much praise was given. I don't recall any directly citing him. I made note..b/c I thought he would have gotten more given the score. I am done with my assessments of the coach and the team....let the chips fall where they may...I am soooo ready for summer ball!
 5.
how did little dove do?
My assessment of little Dove is he did not finish well..playing for the foul. One should always finish with the and one! Lil Dove's game is to run....our problem tonight pwas multi-faceted...head of team and players...yes including my son.  Lil Dove had 7pts , made some good passes and defense was a lil  better...was not in foul trouble! The SYSTEM is far different from 9 th grade... 4-5 games ago...he'll get there! Geoffrey aka Frenchie...has really been working hard.WOS had multiple guys hitting threes and short jumpers. So WILDCATTER- aka "Dusty the hater"..there's your assessment...I know you were looking for a catastrophic assessment if try hard enough..you may get it!
Ignorance - A state of being uninformed (lack of knowledge).  I have nothing to prove to you nor anyone else here but I would have to say you don't know me because I am not at all "uninformed" nor do I "lack knowledge" about the statement that I made and stand by.  Again I say, I'm not beating any chests nor am I bragging about a loss but it seems to me that you are making excuses (silsbee being without "probably" their 2nd best player and their head coach) as most people do after their predictions don't pan out.  Your statement sounds a little "ignorant" because if you have to say "probably" then I would think that is falls under uninformed/lack of knowledge.  If you're so sure of yourself then you would know whether or not whomever you refer to as being the 2nd best player is really the 2nd best player.  If you're going to quote BD then get it right...he stated "the HF staff played to lose and not make it a blowout".  HF staff needs to start "playing to WIN and not make it a blowout" and have confidence in the players they have.  I've been around these players much longer than the HF staff and I know (that's having knowledge) what talent HF has.
sorry i paraphrased that quote... quite ignorant of me to assume you'd understand.  and yes, i'll plead some ignorance as to the best players on silsbee's squad.  i know about them, but not well enough to say who's 2nd or 3rd best behind DC.   if i'm interpreting this statement correctly "I (hfmom) would be brave enough to say "If HF would stop coaching like it's Little Dribblers, we COULD handle Silsbee and anyone else in our district THIS YEAR" then you're saying essentially that HF would be at the top of this district with a different coaching staff.  you can say that that isn't an ignorant statement all you want, but you'd be wrong.  again, HF is certainly improved this year, but they're looking at 2 losses to silsbee, 2 to HJ, probably 2 to WOS, the loss you've already picked up against OF, and that's 7 if they win every other game.  Young Mr. Hunter makes a difference, but he's not going to make that big of a difference just yet.
He did not make any difference Friday night. All he did was foul, fouling out at the end of the 3rd, with just 2 points, 1 assist.
Well..obviously this is personal. Now, after my investigation...the plan was for him not to have the ball. The plan was to have "Frenchie" handle the ball coming down the court-he's taller to see over the press..from what I was told. This is the ONLY game where J. Hunter has only scored 2pts and did not handle the ball! The ball was virtually designed to be out of his hands...believe me, I asked b/c I had never seen this b/4 in the 3 previous games. Check the STATS Aggie since you have a direct line to OUR books. Now if Aggie would give a little more media time to HF instead of running behind Silsbee all season, you would know first hand what he brings to this team in the 4 games he has played, not just from this one game. Now if you want a debate and possibly a fight about J. Hunter...then it's on! He works hard on the floor-100% constantly having to help out on defense when a man has been beaten. He is aggressive! Yes, I will not deny..he does foul....A LOT! So, Aggie, I invite you out more often and I surely invite you to OUR Stat Books and then maybe your reporting will be more crediable!
Obviously, the only one that this is personal for is you! AAW, merely set out his stat line for Friday. Sorry if it wasn't that impressive.  And he set out his observations on what he saw Friday night.  How is that personal? And why exactly should AAW be devoting media time into Hamshire-Fannett?  He is the voice of the Silsbee Tigers, he does football, basketball and (I believe) will do baseball.  Which means he crosses paths with Hamshire-Fannett 5 times all school year.  If you can line up the kind of sponsorship that he has, I am sure that the ownership of SETXsports.com would find a way to get the Longhorns on the air! I am happy that we have the Hunter Fan Club President on the site, but don't get snippy if some folks decide not to join that fan club!
Well now here we go with YOUR misinterpretations... Who do you think its personal for...thats MY son...duhhh! And I will debate til the cows come home. I am not a mental telepathologist...I have no clue what is personal for Aggie. But I am sure that he can speak for himself...he's an adult. And there was only 1 Stat line...J. Hunter's...Now, regarding sponsorship...I am contributing monetarily right now by posting...have you seen the views on this thread? You guys should be thanking HF:) WOS..if I were you, I would be careful...if you keep following and posting on HF threads you too will become a Hunter Fan Club member. Heck you may take Doves spot as VP...we are having a two for one membership drive. I have got two memberships on reserve for you!
Well, momma.  If you are gonna react like that to something so benign as someone posting your son's stat line for a game, given the tenor of posts that I have seen, I have a couple of alternatives in terms of advice to give you.  The first (which is admittedly against self interest as I am an administrator here) would be to consider not coming on the board as if you take posts like AAW's that hard, it will probably be nothing compared to what you will read in the coming years of your son's high school career, regardless of how successful he is.  If you wish not to heed my first alternative, then my alternative advice to you is to place on retainer the services of a good cardiologist and a good neurosurgeon as I truly believe that, given your reaction here, you will have a massive coronary or stroke out before your son's high school career is over. Is this thread and it's banter helped SETXsports?  Doubtful, folks might read this one but probably don't come back and in some cases, costs us members, so don't flatter yourself. As to the invitation of membership...I'm in the fan club of every kid who laces up in any sport.
Now that was funny and very clever!: )One thing you should know...I have been on the scene for a while... and this is nothing..yall have got nothing on competitive parents in the select scene..now they scare me! Hopefully YOU guys are not taking YOURSELVES too seriously. This is a sports forum...not life or death situations which is what I deal with everyday.

The killing thing is that you were there and was not paying attention. Oh yea that's right...you were looking to see who all remembered you from the "dust bowl days". His coach thought he had fouled out...he only had 4 fouls. So after shaking the opposing coach's hand and sitting for forever... finally the book keeper tells the coach that "he only has 4 fouls". And for those that did not have their heads in the sand..he got back in the game in the final minute or so...9 pts I believe. You need a fact checker...all Hunter Haters have something in common!

 10.
Who in their right mind would follow HF all season. Most parents who have kids that play for HF don't keep up with them. When is the last time they had a article in the paper or a news segment about HF. Aggie is from a winning school and he follows them. HF will be a winner in some sport here soon. Maybe not this year or next year but soon. Keep that hope alive with moral victories vs Silsbee. When they beat yall by 80 next game don't say I told you so.
ALL season? How about several games per season. If you don't even watch the team then you have NO business nor legitimacy on ANYTHING regarding HF. There was an article this past week and 2wks ago regarding HF..even a news story on two HF people in sports aired this past week on all the local news networks....When are you people going to start checking your facts before you letter a word on this forum? And to think, I have actually  encouraged a debate with you guys on this forum when you clearly are not skilled or informed enough to even engage in such a thing.
Well, SN you are SO right. This was an assessment of one person from one game who has NEVER seen him play b/4. Those who have seen him play knows that he is usually very impactful. Now, on a lighter note Smith...(dont know who Martin is) did an awesome job! Smith started (and he has not been) and he showed that if you show a player that you believe in him and his abilities...that gesture will render sweet fruit for you. In my opinion...he should start.  Smith definitely showed how valuable he can be to his team.....ALL THUMBS DOWN TO AGGIE! :)

Bluedove, if my aunt had testicles she would be my uncle.  Why not just say as I did on our loss that on that night your kids lost the game.  They did not execute, got into foul trouble, made poor decisions with the ball and lost the game.  Otherwise just go ahead and layout the reasons that your are going to lose for the rest of the season and that can be our predictions.  The same kids that played really well in our HJ game are the same ones that did not play as well against BC and we lost.  While we could say that we led most of the game against HJ the bottom line is that they won and we lost, not a moral victory still counts as a loss in district.  I cant believe that 2 weeks later we are still talking about subbing in that game.  You had 3 kids foul out because they tried to block shots all night as they did earlier in the season.  We adjusted to the fact that they were going to try and block shots all night.  I realize this will prob get me on the most hated HF list but it was just a game.
News Alert...you were already there....:)
 14.
Congrats only if HF gets into the playoffs, nothing more and definitely nothing less. HF is still 1-2 in district. That's all that matters.
It has been called to my attention that a clarification needs to be made about my statements regarding subbing. First of all, making subs is not the primary problem...knowing when to make the appropriate subs is the criticism. So, to somehow misconstrue that into that I am bashing kids is foolish. On every team, everybody has a role....some primary some not. What's key is to realize that and make it work to your advantage. In critical moments...you have to know who your GO TO people are. If people are going to choose to be on this site....you have got to have tough skin and not take things so personal and wear it on your sleeve. Basketball is not for the faint at heart:)
 15.
I willing to say HF WILL be a playoff team
Although Silsbee was not at full capacity and was missing a key player...and I again did not agree with all of the subbing....our big men showed up to play tonight and showed up big despite all of the above! HF boys did a wonderful job...you played your heart out! Lets keep the momentum guys! Great effort!
 16.
H-F wins 66-52.
All I am gonna say about this win is....just thankful we won......
 17.
Have not said the kid was not good, as a fresh I think he did good job.  The original post was that HF should be pushing al up the floor and I still hold that with 3 kids 6"5 your strength is a half court set no a small guard rushing up the floor with no one there.  He did make some good passes but again, he needs the bigs in order to make his game work.  Not sure why if just voicing opinion it has to get jumped on like I am breaking down the kid, you are obviously closer to program, just don't understand why you all continue to jump on way program is ran.  Once OF got HF into foul trouble coach had to do what he had to do to give best chance to win.  As for aau, what would you like to discuss?  Realize the exposure element and agree you have to play in Houston with the Primetime's, MAYB, etc if you are going to be seen as no one is coming to the Triangle to watch basketball.  The game has definitely evolved with aau and in a good and bad way as most coaches will agree.  Great for for the kid not as much for the coach as he has to fix alot of the bad that goes along with aau.
My last debate on AAU. I am just debating the comment "I saw aau". Just wanted you to explain what the PG  did that made you "see aau". When you see aau...what does that mean? Aggressiveness, agility, quick crossovers, hard razor-like passes? In larger Metro areas...the game is FAST. My younger son was watching  Galveston Balls varsity game and he too spoke about how FAST the game was. That was the debate-that you "saw aau".  Also, AAU is not the only place where bad habits are learned. I see it all the time in HS basketball, especially in small districts...heck its prevalent in 4a and 5a. Coaches just don't have the knowledge or the time to "Teach". So, now parents have to spend money for knowledgeable trainers to "teach" the intricate details of basketball, if you are not blessed with a knowledgeable dad or school coach. I am done with the issue....good debate though.
oh...and you never answered any of my questions regarding AAU.....good night WC! :)
Wow....with those credentials we should have all known you in that gym. But your years in the hardwood scene was many many moons ago late 80's?. AAU is a horse of a different color now. And a players "flash"& style of play does not elude to AAU ball. Please expound on "I saw aau"? Explain exactly what you saw? Let this be a teaching moment being you know the game. But yes...the big men are key...but any successful team has two key components...a strong big man that can receive efficiently  and a strong PG that can get the rock there accurately. The two much exist. But lets explore the stats since you were there: 9pts- 1 three, 2 layups (penetrated the middle & 1 fast break layup) & 2 freethrows. I am very confident that there were at least 5 assists? Infact...the first HF play was the PG hitting the open man standing open under the basket. I am about facts so be ready to debate if you make a claim that you feel is valid. The new PG missed the entire pre-district season so here we are....the chemistry will come.

Do you know? SO MANY people think they know what true Elite  AAU looks like. When was the last time you witnessed an AAU game? Anywhere in the Golden Triangle goes not count. If you don't play summer ball...you will probably not be seen unless your team goes to State. College coaches go where they can see several players all in one venue..."Live Events" Elite AAU is not at all" reckless" but a very high level training environment. Now..the PG hits the open man..whether on the wing or down low. HF does not have consistent enough shooters to just come down run plays and shoot. We need to fast break with the big men throwing the outlet pass to the guard and then get down the court for at least 5-10 easy baskets. The new PG is fast enough believe me to get the ball down. There are athletic enough guards and forwards if placed in all together to run some fast breaks. The PG sets the tempo of the game. He is the floor general- the coach on the floor. In the last 3 games he has played..I have observed that he asks the coach ALOT about what to run....maybe b/c he is new. But hopefully with time he will be confident enough to make some judgement calls and adjust w/o asking the coach every single posession what to run....I am not a coach...but my husband is a former player and coach and we observe and debate a lot of basketball....and this is JUST MY OPINION...everybody's got one.
