1. I don't remember the year, but I saw Immanuel McElroy for P.A. Lincoln score 50 against Wheatley in the 4A Region III Final at the Campbell Center.  Lincoln lost by 3 I believe. I saw Bryan Sallier score 28 points with 20 or 22 rebounds, and I think that was in the State Semi-final. I also saw Darryl McArthur put on a show at the Beehive. Every game that I saw Earl Evans play. If I remember correctly, Earl missed the bus going to play at Lake Charles Boston, and he came in I believe after halftime and scored 50 and Lincoln won.

If I remember correctly, PJs have some pretty good burgers. Also, believe it or not, the Bucees on I-10 in Luling has some great BBQ and steaks. Gonzales has some of the best sausage anywhere.

 6. CONGRATULATIONS Alexis Brown, Orange Crush and Ozen Panther, early signing with Grambling State University.  Alexis joins Ozen's 2011 Catcher Kay Kay Brown at Grambling State University. She was all tears when she saw Coach Birdwell standing behind her, and we have it all on video.  LOL!!! Thanks Ozen & Orange Crush Coaching staff. Keep up the hard work.  The best is yet to come. We are proud of you - The Browns from Sugar Land
Ahhh Dickey V, I have to beg to differ regarding Beaumont having much more overall individual talent.  Port Arthur Lincoln alone has a very long list of talent as well just going back to their first State Championship team in 1981: Michael Jaco (All State -Creighton), Leonard Allen (All State - San Diego State), Anthony Allen (All State - Georgetown), Kevin Bush, Bryan Sallier (1st Team All State football & basketball Oklahoma -Pro bball overseas) B.J. Tyler (All State - Texas - 1st pick Philadelphia 76ers), Keith Harris (Tulane), Steven Jackson (Now Milwaukee Bucks) Kelvin McKyer (All State), Emmanuel McElroy (All State - Cincinnati), Brannon (Houston), of course there are many names that I have left off the list.  I just listed some of the most notable. The Golden Triangle has always had a lot of talent, in all sports.  However, until the late 80's or early 90's, it was not regarded as such, especially for basketball.  If there was a school like that in Beaumont, I would expect them to dominate.
NO QUESTION that Port Arthur had talent..BUT I said in THE LAST 20 years, means dating back to like 1992...Beaumont has had more...No knock on PA, its just that PA did MORE with less than Beaumont, riding heavily on tradition and having a great overall program.
Dickey V, you are correct my friend. In the last 20 years or so, Beamont has had much more. The lone notable name from PA in the last 5 years or so that sticks out to me is J'Covan Brown.  Well, Dominique Keller also comes to mind, but that's about it.

 11.
All classifications are "real basketball" its  all good!
I agree No-look. I watched a couple of the games yesterday and this morning on the internet and saw some good talent.
 12. Nice post Dogs1988. As I posted in another thread, it's tough enough to face a team twice in a season and win both, and much more difficult to face them 3 times and win. Congratulations to Nederland on another great season and run in the playoffs. Congratulations to Ozen on the win and keep working and improving. The playoffs is where you want to get hot and play your best ball.
 13. Congratulations to Nederland on a great season. It's tough to face a team twice in a season and win both, and even more so 3 times in a season. Congratulations to Ozen.  Keep up the hard work and keep improving. The Ozen basketball scenario is similar to the football scenario last season. Both teams sort of backed into the playoffs, but got on a roll. Now is the time to be playing your best ball. Once again, congratulations.

 15. If it's for the District Championship, I would rather play and let the kids decide. If it's for 3rd or 4th place seeding, maybe not. Warm-up games, I don't think that I would play a warm-up game, primarily because of the risk of an injury. Also, tensions could rise, and things get out of hand, and players get into a scuffle, and other players leave the bench, and you will have suspensions.  I know that this scenario is less likely, but I would not risk getting a player injured.  It's the same reason that some NFL teams will sit out starters for the last game if they have made the playoffs and there is nothing to gain by winning, or nothing lost in incurring a loss.
 16. Also, long term, I don't think that they would be as dominant as people might think. I say that because, where as, in their district now, there might be 1, or 2 at most, other teams that will give them a tough game.  However, in 20-4A, it's like the SEC in football, you have to show up every week.  You cannot afford to have a bad game, or a off night.  If you do, it will result in a loss. Think about HJ or Silsbee having a stretch where they had to play each other, Nederland, Central, Ozen, and LCM, and half of them would be as visitor.  Example HJ: Silsbee - Away Nederland - Home Central - Away Ozen - Home LCM - Away Flip-flop Home and Away for the second half of district.  That is a very, very, tough schedule. Also, Livingston, Lumberton, Vidor, and PNG is no cakewalk either.  They will have to consistently play at a high level just to make the playoffs, let alone dominate the district.  This is just my opinion.
 17. Well Dicky V, this year I would have to with this order: 1. Nederland 2. HJ 3. Central 4. Silsbee However, Ozen could very well knock off any of them. They have been sporadic and you don't know which team will show up.
 18.
Stanley Bonewitz Jr.- San Antonio East Central Troy House-Ingram Moore
I was going to include Stanley Bonewitz from S.A. East Central but forgot. I watched S.A. East Central vs Dallas Carter and that was one of the most exciting high school games that I have ever watched. Worthy Wiles from Highland Park Thomas Hill from Lancaster, who later went on to start for Duke, was almost unstoppable. Michael "Juice" Jaco P.A. Lincoln was "Mr. Clutch" for the 1981 5A State Champs. He hit buzzer beaters twice against Houston Washington and scored 27 against FW Dunbar in the State Semi-final game.  When the game was on the line, you wanted the ball in Juice's hands.
 19. Earl Evans, P.A. Lincoln.  6'8" tall and could play all 5 positions. Earl had many, many, clutch games and did things that boggled the mind. No 2 ranked High School player in the Nation behind none other than Moses Malone.
 20. Silsbee - Dexter Wallace - 79 I think Hebert - Randy Samuels 80, Kenneth Minkins - 81 WOS - Chris Hardin - 81 TJ - Dwight Brannon '77, Dwayne Brannon, Robert Smothers - 81, Kevin Everett - ? PNG - Jace Wainwright '77 & Monte Wainwright '81; can't think of the guy last year or year before that had several dunks.
 21. The best matchup that I would like to see is a re-match between the P.A. Lincoln '81 and Hebert '81. That was my senior year Lincoln. They played four times that year and went 2-2 against each other and both won the State Championship. Lincoln won the 5A State Championship, and Hebert won the 4A State Championship. In fact, we had a combined State Championship party in Austin together for both teams. Now that would be a classic
 22.
What a difference a year makes!! Last year, Class 4A Region III was all about Galveston Ball and LaMarque. These two teams stayed in the top 5 in the state rankings all season, battled each other in district play and then met up in the Regional championship game where LaMarque advanced on to the state title game before losing to Dallas Kimball. This year, they both have a combined record of 5-39!!! (Ball 3-19, LM 2-20) Wow!! How the mighty have fallen!!
:o :o :o :o :o
 23.
Well, let's step back here.  By a rough count and even rougher geography, there were 23 games in the, for lack of better phrase, Beaumont area.  Looking at the posts here, there were only complaints about capacity being an issue at 1, yes only 1, of those games.  And if I may be so bold, despite the many great matchups and rivalry games that are yet to be played, it is likely that the only issue regarding capacity will recur when the two teams that played in that lone game play again on January 31st. I also find it interesting that the Merrill Center was brought up for as most of you know, I live in the Katy ISD.  I am still waiting for when the "profits" of the Merrill Center, which has hosted consecutive Southland Conference tournaments, countless predistrict tournaments, UIL regionals and is even host to a professional (well, sort of) indoor football team, to provide me relief on my Katy ISD property taxes.  I paid those last week and it certainly didn't come this year.
Yeah WOS Grad, I am still paying for the complexes and the new schools in Fort Bend (Recently Ridge Point and George Ranch).  At this point, as you stated, I don't think that it's feasible or cost effective.  However, when they were building the complex, it would not have cost as much. Also, they should have included a track around the football field, and vie to host District track meets and the YMBL track meet.  It's a very nice facility.  I just think that they were short-sighted in their vision and planning. However, as I think it was Steve Nash pointed out, given the state of the economy, it won't happen anytime soon.

However, it could also be used for playoff games, and playoff warmup/tune up games, etc.
Yes, I agree with this as well.  The way I see it, it there is adequate parking, abundance of seats, and great broadcast area (with AAW in mind  ;) ), this is a good idea.  The reason I brought this up is because the same thing was mentioned for a big rivalry game in Football.  Even though you had all of these pluses, some stated that it would not be a good idea because of 'atmosphere'.  Good parking means more people.  More people mean more butts inthe seats.  More butts in the seats mean a hostile environment... 'great atmosphere'.
Yeah BMTSoulja1, AND more butts in the seats also means more money for the schools. In my opinion, the schools miss out on a lot of money because many fans, not your die hards, don't want to have to try to leave work early, fight the crowds and stand in line and hope to get in.  They just say, oh well, I'll catch the highlights on the news. I also agree, more fans/butts in the seats, creates a hostile environment and a great atmosphere.
