1. The pressure is squarely on the backs of the Little Trojans in this matchup. They come into this game with a 34 game winning streak against 3A competition the last two years. The last loss to a school in the 3A classification came on February 22nd, 2008 in a playoff loss. You just never know how these things can workout though. I expect to see a very entertaining game starting at 2pm on Thursday and if the Tigers bring our run to a close I'll have no problem with it at all.
2. That should be accurate LAZEEK. The UIL called him to let him know the pairings. It should be a fun game between the Tigers and the Little Trojans. Estacado should win handily in the other game.
3. One of our coaches called and said it will be Silsbee vs. Madison in the 2pm game.
4.
Based on records you are correct that Estacado should be #1 and Silsbee #2............but the other two are a coin flip.  The #3 and #4 seed are not based on records....a coin is flipped to see which team they will play!!!  Best chance for Silsbee would be to play Stafford in the semis and then have Madison and Estacado play in the other semi!!!
You're right the 3 and 4 are a coin flip. I still expect to see Estacado and Stafford playing each other though. It'll be fun either way.
5. Size-wise the starters will be about the same on the frontline. 6'6" and 6'7" for us with a 6'8" and 6'3" backing them up. The 6'8" kid was the QB of our football team.
6.
well, silsbee is built like a 4a or 5a team, so hopefully we'll see them win :)
Silsbee is a very athletic team. If we draw them we'll have to catch a break or two to be able to win. As long as we have a chance down the stretch to possibly win I'll be fine with that.
7. We (Madison) aren't banged up. We'll have everyone available on Thursday. One kid left the game early today, but it was precautionary more than anything. He came back in during the 2nd quarter, but didn't have to play many minutes with the game out of hand. The only kid we have that missed any games this year due to injury has been back out there for the last month. He's the 10th man on the roster for us. He'd likely have been higher in the rotation, if not a starter, if he hadn't have gotten injured during fall league play. He's had a hard time cracking the rotation since returning from his injury. At 6'4" he'll be our go to guy next season during his junior year and will be one of the best players in the Metroplex as well as a top five player in Class 3A. Silsbee and Madison will likely play in the semi-finals. We have 8 losses this season (All to 4A and 5A schools in Texas as well as to an undefeated team from Frederick Douglass (OKC) that would be one of the top 3 teams in Texas regardless of classification.)...I would imagine you'll see Stafford play Estacado.
8. Being a Madison fan I would hope they don't win the title...lol. They do have a very good team though. I saw them in their semi-final game last night and they have some kids that can play.
9. Good win and it was nice to see the starters able to get a few more minutes tonight. Prosper just didn't have enough depth. They played hard though and they did have a really good season as I believe they finished up 36-4. We're one win away from a possible rematch with Ranchview who is in our district. They have to beat Liberty-Eylau and hopefully we'll win ours as well. Ranchview is very worrisome to me as we won by just 3 at their gym and 10 at ours to end district play.
10. Nice way to start out the playoffs for my Trojans. Starters all played between 13-16 minutes in this one and all were out for good with a little over two minutes left in the 3rd. Billy Gillispie was in attendance scouting some of our guys. Not sure which school he is affiliated with at the moment though. He spent most of the 2nd half talking with Ellis Kidd Sr, our coach from 1976-2004. They've been friends for around 20 years going back to BCG's days at Killeen Ellison (Madison went to the Killeen tournament every year back then.). Looks like we'll have the district champ from Whitesboro's district on Monday which would be Prosper. They beat Kennedale 72-70. The only common opponents we have are Velt (Prosper won 48-39) and Whitesboro (Prosper won both games 70-58 and 57-51.). I hope we'll be able to get another win and make it back to Commerce.
11.
Jasper non district schedule Lumberton Livingston Cleveland WOS Silsbee Orangefield This was given to me by Coach Bickam at Region 5 this morning after the districts were announced.
I would really like for that to be the schedule because I would rather not have to drive so far to the non-district games this year. I know our coach is trying to schedule some teams that are pretty far away. Personally I don't like it, especially when DISD has no extra money. I don't know why our guy won't just call Celina, Prosper or Argyle for a game. They're right here in our own backyard.
12. Does that sound good to y'all folks down that way? According to our DC that's our 2nd game of the season. He said about a month ago that we'd be playing Jasper. I'm guessing the game might be played in Longview perhaps if they want to do a neutral site. We did it the last go-around with Decatur and met them in Denton for two years.
13. I've been a Lakers fan since the 80's...The 1987 Lakers would've lost to Yates. Thank God none of this current team from Yates was yet born and that the Purple and Gold only had to play Larry Bird and the Celtics for the title that year.
14. Boy if they drop down I feel bad for some of the 3A schools that'll have to go against Nash and Miles during their senior season. I welcome them to drop because the rivalry just hasn't had the same feel to it with us (Madison) in a different classification from them for almost a decade now. While it's been nice to go 3-1 against them the last two years the only satisfying thing about the wins was two of them knocked them out of the DISD Coca-Cola. The loss this year to us is still the only blemish on their record. I do hope they drop down even though they'll likely roast us in both district games next season. It'd be cool for the games with them to mean something again besides neighborhood bragging rights.
15. I just went and looked it up and indeed it was Chester. February 7, 1997 was when it happened.
16. Isn't Chester the team that Coach King and Goodrich beat 144-6 several years ago?
17. Region III appears to be pretty once again this season. Our (Madison) region has more depth to it this year than it did last season. I've gotten out and watched a few of the potential playoff opponents for the Trojans and it's going to be tough to make it out of Region II again this season.
18.
Poppabear, welcome to the world of inner city basketball....They do the same in Dallas. Coach Greg Wise is a good guy...He told every coach on the schedule this year - No offense but we want to break the all-time scoring record....Well, they are well on their way. Has nothing to do with class. These are how these kids play basketball. baseline to baseline from start to finish.
Even our coaches up here in Dallas wouldn't go for 170. The only coach left in DISD that runs up the score is Carter's Robert Allen and he doesn't have the team this year to be able to run it up on too many folks.
19. If we're (Madison) fortunate enough to make it through the Region II buzzsaw and get back to "The Drum" this season I'd like to see HJ down there again as well. It'd be cool if we were able to play each other. A lot of things have to happen between now and March though to see that materialize. Should be fun to see how things pan out in Region III.
20. I know that Sam Houston isn't that good. Pinkston went down there and played them and won 73-44. While that's not a 92 point win like Yates had, Pinkston is likely going to be the 5th place team in 11-4A, possibly 4th if everything goes right for them. Yates is the best team in 4A, really in the state, but what they're doing is uncalled for.
21.
It is my understanding that H. Yates intentionally ran the score up because of some comments made by the Sam Houston coach prior to this game. The Yates coach was asked how many points he was going to win this game and he siad, "As many as I can".
I'm not shocked that Greg Wise would say that. To me he's the Coach Allen (Carter's basketball coach up here in Dallas) of HISD.
22. I'm having a real hard time agreeing with running it up like this. Do those two schools have a rivalry or something that would be a reason they poured it on like that?
23.
Cat--you know how Leggett goes, last year all 5 starters seemed to be all Brand-New student/players...lol Ive seen what King had returning from his bench, but you know Goodrich has like 2 6'6 freak of athletes that just seem to come out of now where, that he says were on the team the year before... [even tho his entire bench is prob average of 4'8.... ;D ;D ;D Kings a great coach he's one of the few that can teach/coach heighth, speed, strength, athleticism  ;) :D :D
I remember back in the late 90's when a friend of mine was the head coach at Big Sandy that his point guard (One of the kids from the reservation.) was spoken to several times by folks from Goodrich in the hopes that he'd transfer. He stuck it out with the Wildcats though.
24.

I thought I heard that 2 of these players moved to Jasper to play for Red Horse.
well yes 2 players did, but they are not the starters, yound freshman players but give them time they will be Goood!! if anyone had the chance of seeing the 99-00 wildcats, all the players i talked about are there younger brothers..
I remember that Brookeland team. I'll admit I was pulling for Robert Tovar and Moulton to get the three-peat, but I knew they weren't going to be able to beat Brookeland two years in a row. Still not bad to make it four straight years and win it all the middle two trips. I still remember the Brookeland coach at the time being quoted after the first loss saying that they'd be back down at The Drum next year and he sure was confident in saying it. A year later he looked like a pretty smart guy when they won...lol.
