Just curious... in higher levels in a situation like this where a foul occurs and then a tech, doesn’t the team shoot two free throws and then the free throws from the foul become their extra possession?  I’m almost positive it’s that way in the nba, can’t remember with college.  It just seems like allowing them tech free throws, then foul free throws, then the ball is excessive.

In the NCAA, you shoot the 2 FT for T, then shoot the 2 FT for shooting foul with a live lane

It seems like a HUGE deal to me.   If the HJ player keeps his mouth shut, Silsbee does not get the equivalent of three extra possessions to which  HJ did not get to respond.   Possession 1 equivalent is two made free throws    Possession 2 equivalent is another two made free throw   Possession three equivalent is the out of bounds after the free throws that produced a three pointer.  From my perspective, three extra possessions producing 7 points is a very big deal.  The difference is HJ lost a possession they had earned by being fouled and giving up three free possessions for the technical.

It wasn't his mouth that got him the T, it was throwing the ball back at Silsbee player after the whistle for the foul.

In this quote I don’t remember which official was on the ball. I know there was back to back inbound plays so I’m not sure if the officials rotated or not. My question was calling a touch foul with a foul to give and then not calling one on the exact same contact on the next possession. It’s either a foul on both or neither. Fouls have to be called by violation not situations. Like I said before overall the officials did a good job in the varsity game in a super charged atmosphere. I didn’t agree with the technical but I wasn’t on the floor, I do however know the HF coach was given a warning earlier for a much more demonstrative act. I tip my cap to HF though they did what they needed to do to win.

I agree with you that the refs did a good job of managing a very intense gym, crowd and teams. I also thought the ref that called the tech looked like he was mad and it was personal

Overall I felt the crew did a good job. One of them I consider the best official in the chapter. My bone of contention is an immediate whistle on an intentional foul when a team has fouls to give but more contact completely ignored on the next inbound at the exact same location. If it’s a foul when the opposing team has fouls to give then it’s also a foul when they don’t.

You talking about the ref that gave the tech?

It's because they didn't want to play 3 on 3 basketball to determine the outcome of that game superintendent said double forfeit and let's move on .

I don't know where the 3 on 3 myth came from. Check the game tape......all bench personnel leave the team area & all 10 players participate in the altercation. The only players eligible to continue to participate post fight are any of the 10 that were on floor at the time of the  fight AND do not engage which there clearly are none.

The ruling from the committee is the same as the UIL committee would have found if it were to go that far.

    24. It is not goaltending if, after contacting the backboard, the ball is touched by a defensive player, provided the ball has not reached it’s apex and it is not inside the cylinder.  Comment: It is legal for a defender in the normal course of trying to block a shot, to contact the backboard with his hand. This is not basket interference.  It is a technical foul only if, in your judgment, the contact with the backboard was intentional in nature with no real attempt to block the shot.

    25. Basket Interference occurs when: a player touches the ball or basket (net included) when the ball is ON or within the basket; touches the ball when it is touching the cylinder having the ring as its lower base; touches the ball outside the cylinder while reaching through the basket from below. Goal Tendingoccurs when: a player touches the ball during a try or tap while it is in its downward flight entirely above the basket ring level and has the possibility of entering the basket in flight; or an opponent of the free thrower touches the ball outside the cylinder during a free throw attempt. Comment:  Touching the net is only a violation if the ball is in contact with the rim, or is within the basket.   It is not a violation if the net is touch while the ball is in the cylinder.  Again, the lead official should never have to make this call.

That's the biggest point of all at the end. As in this Silsbee play, Lead official should NEVER rule on goaltending/basket interference from behind the backboard.

Great job Lazeek, should I forward you the registration forms for officiating...as illustrated, we take all comers

Hmmm after watching the highlights on Kfdm and slowing them down it does appear that Kaylon put the ball off the glass and then you see the hand of the Woodlands player slap it away.  So from that look it was a good call.  Awful fast to see in Regular speed but appears to me to be correct.

Guys, I must insert myself into this discussion about the ball hitting the backboard. It looks like it did in the video....but it makes no difference whether it did or didn't hit backboard. The only criteria for goaltending is if the ball is on its downward flight ONLY. You guys are citing an NBA rule but NCAA & HS it is not. My 2 cents.

Can someone from ec tell me why ec could not play a fres game last night? It looks like y'all had enough on the jv.
2A ball typically does not have Freshman teams, so few opponents would be available thru the year. Keep in mind the size difference between H-F and EC.
I don't blame them, I wouldn't want to play our freshman either, "them boys be ballers".  8) :D
From the looks of Friday night's score, maybe ya'll should have moved the "ballers" up to play on the varsity!!!!!!!
