So where does Marshall come out in all of this? Splendora and Baytown Lee are both posting 5ADII numbers. Willowridge is posting 4ADI numbers. I'm skeptical any of those schools opt up (correct me if I'm wrong). Wouldn't Marshall make more sense in the district with Brenham, Richmond Randle, Lamar Consolidated and the Magnolia teams? Maybe Rudder makes more sense with the Austin- or Bastrop-area districts?

I take your point regarding the level of competition, but I also recognize that the last few years’ worth of travel has taken its toll on the kids, their families, the fans and the district. In this scenario, I imagine we’d have to keep Texas City. Nederland and Dayton would still be solid competition. Keep playing Memorial and WO-S in the preseason, and replace United with Silsbee, Jasper or Lumberton. That would be a solid schedule.

Does Baytown Lee go 5ADII with this number or opt up to 5ADI? If they go 5ADII and Splendora moves up, wouldn’t that force the Fort Bend ISD schools to move out of 9-5ADII?

Am I reading it right that Lumberton and Vidor are both above the upper limit for 4A from last cycle? Do we think they're coming into 5ADII? Would personally love to see PN-G and Nederland in a district with more Golden Triangle-area teams again.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind that. I like playing Texas City. There’s a long history between the two teams.

I saw that arse-chewing from about 15 rows up. First words out of my mouth: “I’m glad to see the coaches go Saban on him.” It’s not the first time I’ve found myself comparing PN-G’s coaches to Saban this season. And I’m very, very proud to be able to say that. It’s exactly what we need.

When I was in school, we used to say that copious amounts of Blue Bell must give people super powers, because Brenham used to own the Mid-County schools in just about every sport. I remember how proud I was when PN-G’s baseball team beat them during their state title run in 2017. I was equally proud when the football team beat them last year. You can never take a win over Brenham for granted, but I’ll take the Indians at home by two possessions.

You done learned not to pick against PN-G after last week, huh? 😉

I’ve said for a while now that Texas City deserves to be ranked in the DCTF Top 10. I stand by that now. Texas City by 10+.

I second this. Really enjoyed the game. Hoping since Nederland got the 100th edition at home, PN-G will get the 100th anniversary game at home in 2025 so we can return the favor.

Some quick historical notes for the PN-G fans out there who are, like myself, so inclined: The Indians' 25 point margin of victory over the Bulldogs is the largest any PN-G team has enjoyed over Nederland since 1992. Through 25 games, Coach Joseph now sports a 21-4 record with the Indians. This is the best start of any PN-G coach to make it to 25 games since Gene McCollum finished his second season with with the Indians 24-1 in 1947. It's the second best start of all time for a PN-G HC. Statistically speaking, he has outperformed even Doug Ethridge and Lew Ford so far (though Ford brought home a state championship ring in his first season, in fairness). I think pngindians.com and Down Trails of Victory make it easier to research PN-G history than it is to do so for any other high school program in Texas. "Daddy's money" is paying dividends. 😎

I don’t disagree at all, and I can think of one or two families in Nederland that would open up the checkbook.

It’s Nederland’s way of minimizing the Joseph hire. “PN-G only got him because they could hire Todd Dodge with Daddy’s money.”

The Flying Frenchmen? PN-G playing in Lake Charles? The undefeated 1946 Indians? Man, I’m seeing some PN-G chatter in here I haven’t read about in at least a decade. It’s good to have a championship-caliber program again!

I think we should play 19 times to commemorate the 19 straight seasons Nederland went without beating PN-G from 1965 to 1984. 😎

I guess I missed this because I was busy with Legislature-related duties at the time. I had no idea until a few moments ago. Even though I never met him in person, I always enjoyed bantering with Hagar here. I always got the sense he was one of the most levelheaded posters on the site. I’ll miss reading what he has to say. Belatedly, my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Worst weather I’ve ever sat through in the stands. Was drenched to my core. Shocked my iPhone made a comeback. But a very entertaining game to watch.

At the risk of sounding unreasonably optimistic or contrarian, sometimes a flat game with lots of mistakes is exactly what a coaching staff needs to light a fire under the players' arses, restore the focus and bring back some motivation. I'm hoping that's what the Willowridge game will turn out to be for the Indians.
