  1. If PN-G were unranked, yes. But undefeated #1 losing a close game to one loss #3 in the third round is hardly an embarrassment, in my view. An embarrassment in this situation is a blowout loss either way.
  2. Ordinary admonitions about respecting opponents, not being overconfident and preparing accordingly aside, I agree with the assessments about Montgomery Lake Creek making themselves look more unbeatable than they really are by running up the score against subpar competition. That being said, “embarrass” is a strong word. Will we expose them? I think so. Will we embarrass them? I’m doubtful. I feel confident picking the Indians by one possession, but no more than two.
  3. The traffic on the website for this week’s playoff game during the first hour after sales opened yesterday apparently crashed the system for a few minutes. The online vendors these schools use just aren’t accustomed to this level of community support.
  4. And that, my friends, is what sets PN-G apart from the rest.
  5. I’ve said for years that Lamar would bring a lot of local fans out on Saturdays to see their hometown kids play. And there’s a ton of local talent that would play well in the FCS but hardly ever gets a look outside of the area. Two birds, one stone, but apparently no interest.
  6. I get what you’re saying. I also get that Lamar is never going to develop local support unless it starts building local relationships. This is a good way to do that.
  7. Is there a reason? Seems like it would help them recruit local talent.
  8. I have it from a reliable source that PN-G tried to secure Provost-Umphrey for the playoff game against Lake Creek this week but was refused. Lamar doesn’t have a game next Saturday, so I am not understanding why. Any insights?
  9. Best guess is that it has something to do with the band and Indianettes getting back to Bush from New York at 11 AM that morning. Sucks for me because my flight lands at 3:45 PM. 😒
  10. Got a screenshot of an email from Katy ISD staff earlier today indicating that 80% of the PN-G tickets have already been sold. That puts the crowd on our side somewhere between 4,500 and 4,800, depending on whether the band and Indianettes were accounted for in that total. And we're still 28 hours from kickoff.
  11. As I recall, PN-GISD staff confirmed with Katy ISD that it was the first sell-out of either side of Legacy Stadium in the stadium's history. Katy ISD staff were overwhelmed and even began opening up the grassy berms on the north end of the stadium because the stands were so packed. Hoping we see that again Friday night. 😎
  12. I have always said that if I had to pick a place to live in Texas other than PN-G or the Austin area (due to work, not affinity), Brenham would be at the top of my list. Great people, nice town, pretty countryside when not in a drought, and not far from Houston, Austin, San Antonio or College Station. I really like Brenham. But I like beating them more. 😎
  13. Worth noting that West Orange beat eventual state finalist PN-G in district play in 1999.
  14. Mid-County Madness is the best rivalry in the state, if not American high school football altogether. Its place in this thread is a given. After that, for PN-G, I think PAM and WO-S are the closest things we have to another rival in SETX. PAM revives all the history between PN-G, TJ and Lincoln. WO-S and PN-G played some fantastic games back in the days before WO-S started dropping classifications. Once upon a time, I would have told you the Soul Bowl was a great rivalry, and that PN-G had a budding rivalry with Central. Those days are, unfortunately, long gone. The Beaumont Bowl has potential if United and West Brook can ever get things figured out. I agree with earlier comments about the triangle formed between Silsbee, WO-S and Jasper. I am hopeful Hamshire-Fannett will find a way to consistently stay in that mix, but only time will tell. Either way, I think the Golden Triangle has the best of 4ADII football. Regarding how Vidor and LC-M feel about the Mid-County teams, I look at them as the angry exes of 20-4A football. Not that I wouldn’t mind seeing PN-G and Nederland resume those series. It’s just clear those feelings have always been mostly one-way. (I did like to think of the Mardi Gras Bowl as a potential nickname for the PN-G/LC-M series back in the day, though.) I would like to see Lumberton come back into the same district as the Mid-County teams some day. Lots of Mid-County natives live in Raider Country these days. It just feels like there’s potential there.
  15. I’ve taken to calling it the South County Showdown. And I hope it continues in future predistrict schedules.
  16. So where does Marshall come out in all of this? Splendora and Baytown Lee are both posting 5ADII numbers. Willowridge is posting 4ADI numbers. I'm skeptical any of those schools opt up (correct me if I'm wrong). Wouldn't Marshall make more sense in the district with Brenham, Richmond Randle, Lamar Consolidated and the Magnolia teams? Maybe Rudder makes more sense with the Austin- or Bastrop-area districts?
  17. I take your point regarding the level of competition, but I also recognize that the last few years’ worth of travel has taken its toll on the kids, their families, the fans and the district. In this scenario, I imagine we’d have to keep Texas City. Nederland and Dayton would still be solid competition. Keep playing Memorial and WO-S in the preseason, and replace United with Silsbee, Jasper or Lumberton. That would be a solid schedule.
  18. Does Baytown Lee go 5ADII with this number or opt up to 5ADI? If they go 5ADII and Splendora moves up, wouldn’t that force the Fort Bend ISD schools to move out of 9-5ADII?
  19. Yeah, I figured out I was looking at the 2020-22 cutoffs after posting that.
  20. Am I reading it right that Lumberton and Vidor are both above the upper limit for 4A from last cycle? Do we think they're coming into 5ADII? Would personally love to see PN-G and Nederland in a district with more Golden Triangle-area teams again.
  21. Personally, I wouldn’t mind that. I like playing Texas City. There’s a long history between the two teams.
  22. I saw that arse-chewing from about 15 rows up. First words out of my mouth: “I’m glad to see the coaches go Saban on him.” It’s not the first time I’ve found myself comparing PN-G’s coaches to Saban this season. And I’m very, very proud to be able to say that. It’s exactly what we need.
