Seahawks fall to No. 22 Paris Junior College

Recommended Posts

The Lamar State College-Port Arthur Seahawks dropped their third consecutive Region XIV contest Wednesday night, as the No. 22 ranked Paris Bulldogs defeated the visitors from Port Arthur 80-58.

The Bulldogs used an 18-4 run late in the first half to take control of the contest and head into the halftime break with a 45-25 lead.

Coming out of the locker room, Lamar State looked poised to make a second-half rally as they scored eight of the first 10 points in the half. However, Paris answered again with an 8-0 run of their own, and the Seahawks would never threaten again.

Sophomores Ahyaro Phillips and Kavon Rose led the way for Lamar State, scoring 17 and 16 points respectively. Phillips had 19 rebounds.

Desmond King came off the bench to pace the Bulldogs with a game-high 18 points.

Lamar State (15-8, 5-7) returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Jacksonville to take on Lon Morris College in another pivotal Region XIV matchup.

There has been some confusion about that issue. However, Coach Cross told me today that the top 12 teams (by conference record) qualify for the tournament. Ties are settled by head-to-head record.

With seven games left in the season, the standings may tighten or some schools may drop behind. We will have a better idea of where we stand by the end of next week, which includes games against No. 10 San Jacinto College, the South Zone leader, and Angelina College, the second place team in the South Zone.

Lamar State is two games behind Angelina going into tomorrow's game at Lon Morris college.
