SIX JAGUARS NAMED TO ALL CONFERENCE TEAM

The University of Houston-Victoria had six players named to the NAIA Association of Independent Institutions all-conference baseball team announced Wednesday.

Ray Maldonado and Austin Hitt were selected as starting pitchers, Zane Williams and James Green were picked in the outfield, Tony Rothman was chosen as the extra infielder, and David Baker was selected as the designated hitter.

The Jaguars open AAI Baseball Championship Tournament play Thursday at 7 p.m. against Lambuth University at Riverside Stadium.

Williams earns All-Conference at Houston-Victoria

HOUSTON — Former Deweyville standout Zane Williams continues to rack up honors as a senior baseballer at The University of Houston-Victoria.

Williams, who was The Orange Leader’s Male Athlete of the Year, was named to the All-Conference NAIA Association of Independent Institutions Team Wednesday.

Williams, an outfielder, has had a superb season for the Jaguars (30-14), who opened AAI Baseball Championship Tournament last night against Lambuth University at Riverside Stadium.

Williams finished the regular season batting .370, which is second on the squad.

He leads the Jaguars in all power numbers, including home runs (14), runs batted in (64) and doubles (19). He also carries an on-base percentage of .442. and has scored 46 runs.

Williams was one of six Jaguars named to the elite unit.
