So after the scrimmages, how do you feel about your teams?  Better, worse or about what you thought.  Will be interesting to see which teams get better over the next few weeks.  District games that count for real in 17 days.  Crazy with a 9 team district.

As long as they can move the ball at will and stopped the other teams O, I’m good

My thoughts were better during and after the scrimmage because Huntville is a tough football program and Lufkin's sophomore loaded group represented well overall with both teams scoring twice each. Unfortunately a long lightning delay caused only the controlled scrimmage to be accomplished. No live quarters were played. However got to see all the depth play and was encourage by all the possibilities. Huntsville will be a very good playoff team in 5A DII, they have an exceptional QB and group of WRs and huge OL,  they are a physically tough and talented group. Lufkin is going to be stout on D this year, on O the Panthers are young but you can see that group has great potential. Longview is coming to town Friday, it will be experience by fire, but that's how you grow up. The 6A Lobos will be the best team Lufkin plays in the regular season, my apologies to LaPorte, PAM and West Brook who are coming in as top rated 5A programs in 2026. Going to be a fun year.

I had to read the fair catch kick rule a couple of times to get my brain to process. HA!

My brain turned to mush just trying to follow along.

Somebody said... "i can explain it to you, but i cant understand it for u."

Overstand me?

We'll certainly see about that matter when the time comes in a couple weeks. Right now only Longview matters for Lufkin..

DCTF has Longview as a 29 point favorite.

Pretty large spread for the game being at Abe.

Longview is ranked #18 in 6A, probably a Top 10 among the 6A Div II schools. They are good. Lufkin is young and building, so we'll see if the off season has paid off for Lufkin starting tomorrow night.

After Week 1, and seeing how teams played, I'm going to adjust my predictions. I'll probably wind up doing this weekly. Might be interesting. (Wish I knew the tie-breaks this year.)

  1. PAM - Clearly the front runner after an impressive performance against another solid opponent.
  2. La Porte - I'm holding them here for right now because of the opponent they played, and the skill talent. But, I wasn't aware they were going to TOTALLY change their offensive scheme in a year with less predistirct games to get accustomed. Don't get me wrong. I like the Pistol/Pro scheme much better than the Slot T for multiple reasons. Being able to both pass or run effectively instead of being so one dimensional will help in the long run, and they can use the QB's dual threat abilities. As an added bonus, it should help them learn to defend the pass better--which has been a historical weakness because they've not consistently been able to practice against the pass--which should help the D. But, the OL needs a lot of work, and I don't know about the 2 injuries now. The D actually looks like it has the potential to be a solid unit even after the blowout loss. They were in position. Fundamental tackling can be addressed, and Crawford's QB & WR were top notch talent. I think the Border Battle will be a massacre as the Deer have an impressive QB this year, and look to be a solid PO lock behind Dickinson in their district. It's going to take La Porte some time to learn the new schemes after so long running another offense. They're too busy learning right now to be able to just play.
  3. GCM - Until I see something different, I'm still going to keep them here.
  4. Lufkin - Somewhat similar boat to La Porte on O. Still learning. But, I still like their D. I can't fault them for their loss to Longview. They--and La Porte--probably played the toughest opponents of Week 1. No disrespect to the other opponents. Just the way I see it. Longview and Crawford will both advance very far in the PO's as long as the injury bug doesn't bite. (Crawford's program looked to have D1 numbers on their sideline.)

Only because I watched BWB, and they struggled. Hard to judge BWB & BU yet, and RSS opponent wasn't much of a challenge. (Sorry Ganders.)

No it's personal friendly BS 😁 to hell with WB fans. 🙃

BU aint a rival so they're irrelevant.
