OlDawg Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 Did a little digging since we always have this question come up. Here's the history between La Porte & Port Arthur. La Porte vs Port Arthur History This year’s District 9-5A D1 game will be the 34th all time meeting between La Porte and Port Arthur. La Porte first faced Port Arthur Jefferson in 1922. This rivalry dates back 104 years! This season will be the 34th game played between the two cities. Port Arthur Jefferson closed in the late 90's and Port Arthur Memorial became the school in Port Arthur in 2002. Here is the breakdown of the last 33 meetings! Some of those scores might be wrong, I know 2015 is cause we didn't even win that game and the game itself was a close one. OlDawg 1 Quote

I know they’re good through 2011. Had those on file and double-checked. The others, I cobbled and used Maxpreps. (I know, I know. But, it’s all I have right now.) Do you remember the score in 2015? Do you remember the score in 2015? 31-24 LP if I remember correctly, LP stopped us at the 3 due to a fumble right after we had a 95yd run the play before and held on to win. Yeah I don't trust MaxPreps with really anything. OlDawg 1 Quote

OlDawg Posted Friday at 01:19 AM Report Posted Friday at 01:19 AM More Suites are now available at Bulldog Stadium for the 2026 season. Apparently, they’re blocking off separate rooms in the Legacy Complex for additional Suites in addition to those in the Press Box Complex. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Quote

pakronos Posted Friday at 05:10 AM Report Posted Friday at 05:10 AM I liked what I saw from the png transfer. Kid throws a nice ball! Not very mobile, but with a couple of other surprise transfers, they should make it 3-4 rd deep. And no I dont count the first rd. Quote

BMTSoulja1 Posted Saturday at 01:39 PM Report Posted Saturday at 01:39 PM At this point, I don’t know a lot about this district, but I’ll take a stab on how I think the top 4 will look. 1. La Porte 2. Beaumont United 3. Lufkin 4. Port Arthur I think BU finally beats PA this year. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote

OlDawg Posted Saturday at 02:52 PM Report Posted Saturday at 02:52 PM Not sure what to expect from LP this year. They could be 2024--but more balanced. I understand they'll be using more pro sets to take advantage of Wells' dual threat capabilities. I assume they'll also bring up the young Soph RB to complement Simon. He is more of a physical back than Ruffin. Similar to Simon in that regard. Ruffin had more speed. (At least, he seemed to have very quick 'football speed.') If he can produce at the varsity level like he has at the lower levels, LP could be really dangerous with both RB's, a dual threat QB, a Pitt commit at TE, a D1 WR in Smith, and some very solid slot players. They also have a kicker again who is D1 material. I hope the D is improved, and they've learned their lessons about closing out ballgames. I know they're PO'd and hungry after being embarrassed in the PO's last year. Losing a D1 Edge player will definitely hurt. But, I'm being told there's a kid that has a different style, but is actually just as disruptive in his own way. More like a Kendzior--who went to Air Force. We'll see. Like others have said, not much time to fine tune before the real games begin. Experienced teams with some talent and experienced QB's will probably have the edge. Dropping an early ballgame or two may be all it takes to get bumped out of the PO picture with the balance in this district. Quote

OlDawg Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Since many of y'all haven't been able to come to Bulldog yet because of us being in 11-5A, I thought I'd post this video link again. A lot of the amenities aren't able to be seen when you just come to a game. If you arrive early, you should be able to walk around the entire stadium via the concourse. It's open all the way around the stadium, and is partially covered by the upper deck. So, there's a good amount of shaded area, and you still get the sea breeze. Parking is very similar to old Bulldog. But, all the construction is complete, so no lots are blocked. If you are a traditionalist, it may be different for you because the entire stadium is surrounded by large, surround sound speakers, the ribbon banners around the stadium show graphics like professional venues--as well as the typical scores, down, etc. Yes. There are special effects with the lighting and sound system. But, the stadium never goes completely dark--in case people are walking around the concourse, or wherever. There are picnic tables set up on the home side next to the concession area on the concourse for people to sit and eat/visit/whatever in the shade if they want and still see the field. I'm not sure if they're on the visitor side as well, or not. After last year's 'break in/learning all the tech period', everything is set to go, and it should be a fun experience for all. It's more than just going to see a ballgame. It's an experience. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Quote

It's much too far from the playing field. IMO, that seating is unnecessary. It would have been better to eliminate that seating and add to the 2nd decks on each side. But that would require moving back the press box. That was the only complaint I heard from folks who went to the stadium last season and had to sit in endzone seats. Just too far from the action.
