Well, the score was closer than you thought! (Glass 1/2 full comment...)

Well I was thinking the #4 team in the state would least get in 50ā€™s maybe 60ā€™s. You know your in jasper got to beat your chest some. But hey we are LCM we are slow and little we canā€™t play good football. Ā Luckly my kids donā€™t go to LCM

We played a little too conservative for my taste, but I'm satisfied because the defense held up all night and got the shutout. We needed to see that more than a huge night from the offense.Ā

If the Qb and receivers would get on page at Lcm we would be better. I think we have talent just something is missing.Ā

Yes sir mid 90ā€™s 94 season we went 10-0 and went into the playoffs. Also had jeff matthews and Coach Johnson from Newton in the 90ā€™s we played better ball thenĀ

Ahh. That was during the 10-year dark period after I left the area that I couldn't find a way to follow anything down there.Ā I was in college in Denver at that time.

Yes sir LCM was better in that period started dropping off in the late 90ā€™s. Ā Surratt was also our varsity baseball coach he left in 1995 and we went to the state championship in baseball in 1996. If he would have hung around a little longer he might have gotten another ringĀ

I agree. The kids played hard and they do have the talent to beat some teams. I have high expectations for us year in and year out just because we're always so athletic. I think that was the difference tonight as it is a lot for us.Ā

We've always had problems with Carthage. We go to Rusk next week and have the Bulldogs at home on the 16th.Ā

We have to get a lot better before that game.Ā

Yeah, I just watched them play against Pleasant Grove. Only positive for Jasper is it wonā€™t be a long sad bus ride home...Carthage is freakin solid.Ā

I don't know that we're good enough right now to beat PG, let alone Carthage. That's not meant to slight anyone that we've played. We haven't played a solid 4 quarters yet and we need to be perfect to beat a team like that.Ā

Thatā€™s right. Deep like John Holmes. When Lumberton played them in the playoffs last year, I was in awe. My son was out there getting his butt whipped by a 6ā€™ 8ā€ 336 O lineman, and all I could think about was how impressed I was with their whole system. Awesome to watch a team that does it the right way.Ā

Steve Griffith was the man for the job in baseball. Bears did alright with him at the helm.

I am willing to bet that most don't know that Surratt INDEED had a state championship ring before he came to Carthage.Ā Ā

He was offensive coordinator for Coach Barry Norton at Texas High School in Texarkana when they won it all in 2002.

I knew. He eventually brought toby foreman on board after that.

    • No offense, but both sides do it. Ā The Rs in Texas want to do away with decades of precedent and demand that Dems are no longer given chair positions on any committees in the Tx House. It sounds reasonable enough, until you arrive at a point when the Ds enjoy a single seat majority in the house, select the most leftist speaker of all times, and the refuse to give Rs any say in the legislative process by refusing to give them any committee chairs. Ā  Ā  Experience has shown me that any time a party seeks to consolidate power in a legislative body, it backfires.Ā  Ā  What I donā€™t like is a world where we cheer for Manchin for doing his own thing, but also re-elect guys like Paxton and Patrick when they make threats to R Legislators if they donā€™t do exactly what the Radical Right demands. Our Rep here in Hardin County lost his spot for voting against private school vouchers-his wife is a teacher. He also voted his conscience on the Paxton impeachment. Ā It cost him his seatā€¦. Not because of the will of the voters in his district, but because if millions of outside dollars pumped into the race from outside the district and even an endorsement of his unknown challenger by Donald Trump himself.Ā  Ā  Why do people like you applaud Manchin for being his own man and then vote against Phelan for doing the same thing?
    • We'll see. I don't trust us.Ā
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith. Ā He goes tomorrow, so yā€™all should be fineĀ
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad? Ā The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they canā€™t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.Ā  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.Ā  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Letā€™s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didnā€™t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum Ā  So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)? Ā What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wildā€¦ at least in your mind?Ā
