I got to watch over 20 hours of high school hoops in 3 days. I make it a must see every year!

If you’re a basketball junkie, you could end up in the ER.  I see why they call it a Marathon.  Well named, and well run.  And on a side note, only one Ref that needs to be drawn and quartered :)   Overall, the officiating I saw was well above average.

Yes #5 was the little guard who made the engine go. #15 and #24 were legit as well

Where are you from ? Warren ? So, what are you doing at Hardin Jefferson basketball games / marathon every year ?  Do you coach there or are you a coaches dad ?  I am just curious....

I go to the Big Sandy tournament and the EC tournament every year as well. Went to every Lamar game for years. Throw in the regional high school and state high school tournaments and you got me. I'm a basketball junkie. I even have an all tournament team scribbled out on the front of my tournament program but they never ask for my opinion

IMO,

Shelbyville could’ve just as easily been in the championship. Little chance Vidor could hang with them on any given day, starters or not.

Hard to believe they are 2A, wow!

Big Sandy lost to Nederland in champ game in 2015, and avenged that loss the next year to win it all.  Love to see the little man succeed against the big dogs.

Saw that team several times.  That is a tuff statement.  Maybe he was second best all around, maybe.  The way he shot the ball makes it tuff to say he wasnt the best.

I wasn’t going to comment because sometimes it’s tough to say who is the “best” player on any given team.  Sometimes it’s obvious.   Take Silsbee this year - I honestly couldn’t say who is “best” because you have a few who do different things exceptionally.   Nice problem to have.

Similarly, that Big Sandy team was loaded.  I think he is probably talking about Benson Williams who was a great player as well.   I even really liked the kid who played post on that team (JoJo I think).  One of my all time favorite SETX teams to watch.

I saw that team several times over those couple of years.  Angel could fill it up..no question.  But if I were picking a team I'd take Benson first.  Several weapons.

How is the Shelbyville team this year in comparison?  Good players?  Athletes?  Speed?  Size?  Mixture?  I am always intrigued when a small school has a run of basketball talent.

Shelbyville has all IMO speed good height for a 2A School all the 7 that start most of the time can shoot from outside 3 can post up down low. Made to final 4 last year with most of team back this year . Point guard that can score almost at will. All good athletes 1 sign D1 in baseball another committed to D1 in baseball.

I would give the Big Sandy club the edge if comparing them to this years Shelbyville club . Both could really go but the Big Sandy club that years shooting was unreal.

Both really good teams.  Seen them both.  Who Wins?  Who knows?

I’d be happy with their fifth man, whoever that was.  They didn’t have any slouches.  Really hated that the gym at the Alamodome (I think that’s where they played the SC) didn’t fit their eye.  My feeble memory tells me they missed more 3’s in that one game than any other 3 games, but I could be wrong.  And still only lost by 5, 77-72.  They were way to good to lose. Insert sad emoji.

Evadale came the closest to beating them in District.  Score was a nailbiting 71-37.
