BlackShirts5 Posted September 10, 2015 Report Posted September 10, 2015 yeah, when yall consolidate into one big 6A school and keep the football participation numbers up each year or have only 2 HS in Baytown and keep the football participation numbers up at each of them. With 1 school we definable could do it. With 2 schools we could probably have one of them make 2nd round annually.. With the 3 schools it may be a while.. Quote
Peppermint Patty Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 Anyone see any Baytown teams getting strong enough to make it a couple of rounds deep in the playoffs any time in the next ten years?Asking for a friend.No. Three schools have stretched us way too thin. Going "a couple of rounds" would consist of one of us winning our district and playing a 4 seed in Rd 1. I just don't see that happening any time soon. We have some good talent in Baytown, just not all in the same place. Quote

Not trying to be a smart a** here, I just don't see why it is out of the question. BlackShirts5 1 Quote

Not trying to be a smart a** here, I just don't see why it is out of the question. It comes down to what percentage of that enrollment is willing and able to participate in athletics (especially football). Right now, that is a small number no matter what our enrollments may be. Add that to cultural and economic factors and we are what we are. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote

And The coaches play a big part in the kids that come out.. It was once said about Sterling the best athletes in the school were walking the halls because due to coaching.. They get a new coach and the numbers went up. Alot.. ThirdDay 1 Quote

We have some good talent in Baytown, just not all in the same A couple of other factors to consider is growth north of I-10 and along N Hwy 146 and if the district is going to rezone the schools and where those zone boundries lie. The last time they rezoned there was one proposal that showed N. Hwy 146 going to Sterling. There are a lot of athletes that live in that area. Quote
gary-us-bonds Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 I remember in 1991 and 1992, Lee was really bad.Obviously the demographic has changed a lot for that side of town. But, I have to believe that GCM, at least, is dealing with a demographic relatively close to what Lee was dealing with in 1995 and 1997 when they were one of the 15-20 best 5a teams in the state likely.1848 students45% Hispanic30% White20% African-American45% economically disadvantagedRelative to the 2200 students Lee probably had, but in the largest division in the state at that time.I don't see why GCM can't get enough together to make it competitive.Let's look at Crosby1488 students18% African-American30% Hispanic48% White36% economically disadvantaged I keep asking the question, but where did all of the Baytown athletes go? You'd probably have to combine Sterling and GCM to give Crosby a run for their money. That'd be 4,000 students to 1,400 to make it a close game. BlackShirts5 1 Quote

I am just going off what one of the coaches and player had told me for last years team.. Said last year compared to the year before there was almost 100 if not more kids that came out to play for the New incoming coach. Of coarse I have no real numbers on paper so my statement is nothing. Quote

gary-us-bonds Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 GCM has been at the lower end of competitive. They have not been good by any stretch. I don't think it is all coaching, but I do think that GCM has sort of just settled into mediocrity and not really demanded any sort of excellence. BlackShirts5 1 Quote
Peppermint Patty Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 Look about right. Do you have the same info for RSS and REL during the same time period? Quote

BlackShirts5 Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 Look about right. Do you have the same info for RSS and REL during the same time period? We all know what Sterling is.. We know Lee is losing kids left and right.. I am not arguing that they are good or bad. I am arguing that GCM has the tools and athletes to be better but not the right guy. swinging the hammer. But hey We have a 5-0 record against Lee. Quote
