  1. Good article, but the problem I see is Lamar can not stop living in the past. Everytime anything positive in regards to basketball is spoken they always have to talk about the late 70s and early 80s. The game has changed dramatically since then. Eligibilites and scholarship requirements have changed. Those glory years have dictated the whole sports program including the ultimate demise of football. While we enjoy good high school basketball in the area, the university has done little to bring in "local" flavor to help keep the community interested. Even Jim Gilligan does this in baseball. You look at Northwestern and you had/have the Hancock kids from Kountze playing integral roles. You look at Sam Houston a few years back with Silsbee's own Eddie Fobbs who plays professional ball overseas and tries out for NBA teams. Those teams have had success. To be honest this area is not that high on university basketball. This area is football country.
  2. just like every year you make it out of the golden triangle and yall get beat..people from nederland need to realize that there is football otu side of mid county.. lets talk about this year..you should be proud that your 5-5 team went to the playoffs another year. I wouldnt be proud that a team that what you say is "bad "like us beat yall.. you barely beat LCM and wow the other teams you beat were Lumberton and Ozen..dont forget about yalls sister PNG..You should be proud of that..but what yall fail to realize when yall do make it to the playoffs, yall are suppose to win..not come home the second week every year.. so what you are saying that you are a team that can barely beat weak teams and maybe lose sometimes,But just enough to slide by and get into the Playoffs. You are just happy to do that.. Come back and talk to me when yall do a little something, when yall get there instead of just being happy and that being yalls "superbowl "that yall made it out of the golden triangle.. Wow Nederland made it out of the golden triangle.Woooo!!.but once again realizes that there IS football outside of midcounty!!
  3. Lets talk about this year. You beat us and proceeded to lose then next 5 games. We went on to win 4 of our last 5 games including coming from behind to beat LCM, (one of the teams you lost to) to pretty much secure a playoff spot for the [move]11th straight year.[/move] We then proceeded to go two rounds deep while you sat at home and kept talking about a game that happened six weeks before and had no bearing on the season. Did I get it about right?
  4. you are famous for bringing up when grandpappy played.. why not talk about this year?? why not talk about how lucky yall were to get in??why not talk about how yall got embarrassed when Central came to town??
  5. Warren is a 2A team genius. If your gonna talk about schools in SETX at least know something about them instead of just bashing teams based on their size.
  6. Its ok if you don't like the drill. This kid doing the drill is a starter at a major west coast University. The drill merely allows him to feel how his back hip and leg move in relation to a good lower half. I'm not a fan of a center of body swing. In other words revolving door (like those revolving doors you see in hospital entrances) where the axis is in the middle. I prefer some movement against the frontside, this creates momentum, and having rotation more like a swinging gate (like the gate on a fence or how a door would open to a house). where the axis is the front hip/ leg. Thanks Lucky. Good luck Now lets get back to the Miller clip. Baberuth are you going to discuss the swing and give me your evaluation? TVC, lets talk about what we see in the clip I posted now that it is working.
  7. Come on Scooter if you need a place to hang in Marshall we can talk. Got to stop and eat some good catfish on BIG PINE LODGE over in Uncertain or Lake of the Pines. Anytime let me know when you are coming and I'm in. Sorry for hijacking the thread Channelview but am glad you won. ;D
  8. This is stupid... Charles is hands down the better RB.... and what goof ball said that if you put Mosely behind the same line as Charles that Mosely will do better.... stupid... please dont talk anymore.. for all of us... and heres some cold and hard facts on the matter....... Charles plays for one of the best Football Programs in the nation.... who was part of the #2 over all incoming class in the nation his freshman year... Mosely is good.. but no Jamal Charles and to say so is stupid and proves how crazy you are by saying it.....
  9. Home court advatage is big from any sporting venue. HD has a reputation of having poor officiating for the visiting team, but that is part of overcoming adversity. It is not in any way criticizing the skill, or heart of any of the HD ball players. After all, the officials are adults, and are supposed to be non-biased proffessionals. It's always an exciting atmosphere at either school when these two teams meet. Don't get offended when people talk about the HD officials. I think kids are still taught to let the coaches worry about the officials, and for the kids to play their heart out. We will see what happens tomm. Should be fun!!!
  10. YES SOME FORMATION TALK!!! The 4-4-2 is in my opinion the jack of all trades formation... how you train on the left side you can mirror that to the right side you have even balance with a flat back 4 or with the swepper stopper roles you can have tremendous counter attack options with the 4-4-2 defensively you can adjust to almost any style of play the 4-4-2 requires strong midfield play with outside mids making strong runs mids must be able to cross the ball in the attacking third!!! defenders must have good communication, knowing when to attack and when to give space fowards must be able work together and know their spacing rules and roles just like all formations, the 4-4-2 has its weak spots...I just think for the high school player it is the easiest to learn on a side note---the US used a 4-5-1 in this world cup with McBride flying solo up front and we all know how well that worked out
  11. ...What are the formations your teams are going to be running this year???... Have your Coaches been working on situational formations for like when you go down a couple goals or up a couple???... Lets talk some soccer tactics up in this mother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. State Champs & TX Football Magazine Predictions Just thought it would be interesting to look at the Texas Football Magazine predections before the season and see how well the did in predicting the state champions. So here we go. 5A SLC won it all, and were the preseason #2 team. So they did a good job of predicting them. Cedar Hill, the DII champion, wasn't even in the preseason top 25. Interesting to note that Austin Westlake was #6 (lost in DI championship game) and Garland was #3 (Lost in DII Semifinals). Not too bad at the predictions. 4A In Division I, Alamo Heights, the preseason #14, defeated Copperas Cove, The preseason #3. So both of these teams were ranked to begin the season. In Div. II, Waco, the preseason #22, defeated Wolfforth Frenship, the #7 team. So every team to make it to the championship game was in the preseason top 25. Pretty accurate, if you think about it. 3A #1 vs. #3 in the first round of the playoffs. Liberty Eylau won, and won state. If Gilmer wins, do they win state? I want to say yes, but I don't get a vote. But LE's opponent in the championship, Waco Robinson, wasn't even ranked. Neither was the DII state Champion, Liberty Hill. Their opponent Celina was #14. But two of the four teams in the championship games weren't ranked. 2A The closest thing to a sure bet this year was Tatum. Preseason #1 and state champs. But Littlefield came out of nowhere to make the DI finals. In DII, Mart was ranked #16, but their opponent in the championship game wasn't ranked. Again, two of the four teams not ranked. 1A Talk about predicting it. In preseason, 1) Windhorst, 2) Alto, 3) Chilton. Chilton beat Windhorst in the DII final, and Alto won the DI championship. Their opponent, McCamey, was #14 to start the season. So what does this all mean? Well 14 of the 20 teams that played in the finals were ranked in the preseason poll. That's pretty impressive. In 1A, 2A, 3A, and 5A, at least one of the teams in the preaseason top 3 won a state championship. That's very impressive. Of course, some teams came out of "nowhere." There were some unranked teams that won it all, most notably Cedar Hill. But these preseason rankings were a really good indicator of how things would play out. See if anybody else thinks the same way.
  13. Stump wants to be HC, not assistant. All this LU football talk, could we be buying tickets for the fall of 08?
  14. Good point Sports Cards....I checked it out too. ONE person was running their mouth, another apologized.... and now all the smack talk is coming from OF on their website.....post after post after post about DQ. congrats to OF...I really hope you roll through the rest of district undefeated....just remember there is something to be said for being a humble winner.
  15. Well, i'm just a fan, so i'll have to go with HJ. You can pull your truck out behind center field, talk a little smack to the outfielders, and tailgate without paying a dime.
  16. Man you talk about a strong leg. C. Martin from Silsbee kicked a 51 yarder and still had room to spare. Now thats a strong leg.
  17. They asked the question and I answered it. JW was on Varsity and possibly would have played most of the year there if not for a breaking a hand during basketball season. I talked about two guys not just my guy. At least when I'm on here I actually have something to say! Pooper-Scooper are you a player or a player-hater :?: :!: You have been hating since football season maybe he had a spot you wish you had at starting WR or at the end of the year when he played QB. Quit hating!! You know who I am give me your name and if you do something good I'll talk good about you too! This forum is for the fans and dads to talk about the players. The only thing we want from you kids is to play the games to the best of your ability, to well in class, stay out of trouble, and stay off the boards! And hopefully make our predictions come to fruition!
  18. On SETXSPORTS.COM's myspace, they have a friend named Big Daddy Dave. The person claiming HJ will do something this year is BIGDADDYDAVEHJ. I'm pretty darn sure they are the same person. It's amazing how a person like you will talk so much, but yet not play the sport.
  19. I have mixed feelings about this trade. The wild card to me is the additional pitcher Houston got from Colorado. Is he as good as Hirsch? If so, I can live with it. Taveras is a mixed bag. So much speed on the bases and in CF, but he hasn't done enough as a top of the order hitter. I am a bit miffed about letting Andy Pettitte go. It sounds like the Astros only had to meet Andy at $14 million instead of the $16 million the Yankees signed him for and he would have stayed here. There has to be more to this story than what we've been told. Talk in Houston was that Bud Selig came down on Drayton McLane about signing Carlos Lee to such a big contract and that may have contributed to Drayton staying put at $12 million for Pettitte. Still, we should have signed him. It's not likely Clemens would have come back for another year even if Andy stayed home, but that has a lot to do with why they chased Garland and eventually locked up Jennings. They were preparing for life without Roger, but losing Pettitte stings.
  20. There were high expectations for the Houston Astros in 2006 coming off their first World Series appearance in franchise history. Disappointment is all the 2006 Astros got even with a late season surge to make the eventual World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals sweat it out for the division title til the last day of the regular season. It looks like up until Christmas now three major events have occured this offseason. #1. The signing of Carlos Lee and Woody Williams on Black Friday. Black friday is usually known as the "biggest shopping day of the year" as well as the kick off to the holiday season the day after Thanksgiving. The Astros tagged slugger Carlos Lee for 6 years $100 million dollars. Lee will be that big bat needed in the middle of the lineup behind slugger Lance Berkman. His carrer stats for his first 7 years in the leauge consist of 221 Home Runs, 782 RBI's, and a Batting Average of .286. Hopefully the Crawford Boxes will be nice to him. Native Houstonian Woody Williams also was the other big free agent signing on Black Friday. 2 years 12 million dollars is what the Astros will be paying the 40 year old pitcher. Yes I said 40 year old pitcher. Experience will be the Key as Williams puts on the hometown pinstrips in 2007 after being with the rival Cardinals for so many years. #2. The whole Andy Petitte and Roger Clemens soap opera. At first Pettite was undecided if he wanted to pitch again. After taking a page out of his old buddies book Petitte anounced he will be back in 2007 but with who? Well my friends he will be in fimilar pinstrips but not for the hometown team. After offering Andy 12 million dollars the Astros would not go up any farther on the money and Pettite left Houston to go back to the New York Yankees. In my opinion the Astros obviously have other plans then worrying about Andy. The whole rumor mill about trading for Ace Chicago White Sox pitcher John Garland is what I think made Andy's mind up when it was all said and done. All I have to say is "Andy thanks for the few memories you gave us, now go back to New York where you belong." No word on Clemens yet which is no suprise but I wouldnt be suprised if he ends up a Yankee with his good buddy Andy. #3 After the whole John Garland talk was over the Astros pull off a trade to add another arm in the rotation. Willie Tavares, Jason Hirsh, and Taylor Bucholz were all three traded to Colorado for pitcher Jason Jennings and a relief pitcher. Jennings holds the most wins in Rockies history, and won the rookie of the year a few years back. His numbers may not show it but he will be a much needed arm for this 2007 pitching rotation. Just keep in mind he pitched for the Colorado Rockies where he couldnt get any run support and pitched in that thin homer friendly air. I hate to let go of young talent like Jason Hirsh, Taylor Bucholz, and Willie Taveraz but sometimes you have to give up young talent to get what you need. So here is my projected pitching staff for right now: 1. Roy Oswalt 2. Jason Jennings 3.Woody Williams. 4. Wandy Rodriguez. The offseason is far from over so more moves could be coming. My offseason grade for GM Tim Pupura as of December 12th is an B-. Losing Pettite isnt the worse thing that can happen. You cant garuntee Pettite will stay healthy. Carlos Lee is no doubt a big signing with an big bat hopefully that will be the answer to some of the offensive woe's from 2006. On a final note Legand Jeff Bagwell is set to formally anounce his retirement from baseball soon. Stayed tuned for the next Setxsports Astros Blog in a couple weeks as we pay tribute to Astros Legand Jeffery Robert Bagwell.
  21. Dave all you've done is talk crap about how GREAT HJ is going to be this year, but when somebody asks you why, you can't ever give a straight answer. It appears that all you know how to do is run your freakin mouth about a sport you can't even play! The reason Treece isn't AMAZING is because his fasball is low 80's at best, ans his control isn't that great, so it's not like he's gonna hit locations. And his breaking stuff isn't good enough to get people off balance, because its flat. Now you tell me smart @$$. why is he amazing.
  22. 70 Days left.... the most famous 70 belongs to a man that was tounge tied like a cheating husband "I'm not here to talk about the past!"
  23. just trying to get some information and who is who and what is what ect... thanks everyone and i cant wait less than 70 days till baseball and i cant wait
  24. You know whats funny though. HJ does NOT have to worry about OF this year simply becuase they are terrible. Period end of discussion. HJ is 14-0 and has beat many formitable opponents. There is a little room for big robes to talk a little noise. OF on the other hand has no room for any trash talk what-so-ever because the team is not good.
